Still in touch with two ex classmates, we had a reunion in may this year- first time we had met in almost twenty years. I still have the class photo from the first form in 1961 o thats great...if you go to the school now you wouldnt believe your eyes....the modernisation is amazing..its like a bloody maze...my sense of direction is normally quite good but visiting the school again certainly put me to the test...and i lost completely:hihi: calypso 07-02-2006, 20:49 I went to Ecclesfield School too, left 1986. kev21662 07-02-2006, 23:13 Is anyone able to post some up to date photos of the school? calypso 08-02-2006, 00:33 there is a website for Ecclesfield school that has photos on and message boards etc. It's www.esvc.freeserve.co.uk mr_blue_owl 08-02-2006, 06:22 o thats great...if you go to the school now you wouldnt believe your eyes....the modernisation is amazing..its like a bloody maze...my sense of direction is normally quite good but visiting the school again certainly put me to the test...and i lost completely:hihi: We actually spent most of the first two years in the school on Ecclesfield High St (Ecclesfield Junior?) which was being used as an annexe for Echo Grammar while the main school was was being renovated. They built the Science Block in 1963 if I remember correctly. We used to get called 'Grammar Grubs' by the Colley Secondary Modern pupils, they didn't like us very much. :D I did actually call in the school a few years ago but it was closed for holidays. I went up the drive to the old building and got this horrible feeling that I was being watched by some ghostly spectre from my past. Silly I know but I got out of there real quick viking 08-02-2006, 06:29 We used to get called 'Grammar Grubs' by the Colley Secondary Modern pupils, they didn't like us very much. It's only because we could read and write and we did not have our knuckles trailing on the floor. :hihi: mr_blue_owl 08-02-2006, 11:42 It's only because we could read and write and we did not have our knuckles trailing on the floor. :hihi: Very true. Colley imates were not the sharpest tools in the box. I thnk I spotted one of them in 'Deliverance' playing a banjo. viking 08-02-2006, 11:46 Very true. You only have to look at the headmaster HERE (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/viking99/forums/spaz.jpg) mr_blue_owl 08-02-2006, 12:00 You only have to look at the headmaster HERE (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/viking99/forums/spaz.jpg) Hee hee - handsome chap. Also take a look at the photo in the 'Colley Outing" thread if any further proof is needed. The head at Ecco when I was there was 'Chesh' Jennings. Wonderful gentleman, unlike some of the sadistic male teachers that I always seemed to get. 'Ogi' Jennet being the worst by far. He should have been in the Gestapo. beamer 08-02-2006, 17:05 when i was there the head was called Mr Sanders....i met him quite a few times....lol:hihi: When i went not so long ago Miss Pitt who took english recognised me...OMG i couldnt believe it she hasnt changed at all...she is still as pretty as she always were..and Mr Howarth recognised me too..i used to have a crush on him:gag: kev21662 08-02-2006, 22:29 I've contributed to the esvc website in the past; but they don't have any really up to date photos. I also remember Mr Jennet and the fear he instilled! mr_blue_owl 09-02-2006, 15:19 I've contributed to the esvc website in the past; but they don't have any really up to date photos. I also remember Mr Jennet and the fear he instilled! Ogi was the most obnoxious guy I have ever come across. The best teacher in my day was 'Ug' Cornwell (history and rugby) top bloke. And the legendary Gabby Hayes, what a guy!. The mad sadistic, teachers were Robinson (French) Boggy Marsh (Maths) Hapgood (Maths) Moss (PE) Sutton (Chemistry) The female teachers were great though, Miss Norfolk, Mrs Winfield, Miss (wobs) Webster. Rob Tomlinson ruins the ESVC site, he is very helpful if anybody needs any info. Ant 04-04-2006, 13:24 I left in 1980. Must have bumped into you a few times, Mick. Form teachers: Miss Coltman (Mrs Knibbs), Mr Malham, then Mr King. StJohn 04-04-2006, 20:18 I was at Ecco from 75-81, I could have left in 1980, but Maggie had just closed down everything and I had the choice of a YTS scheme or standing for hours around Lound Side Unemployment office, so I stayed on for an extra year Ant 05-04-2006, 07:23 If it's St John Fletcher, you'll remember my brother Tim. StJohn 05-04-2006, 16:07 If it's St John Fletcher, you'll remember my brother Tim. Yes it's me ... What was Tim's last name .... Age and beer has taken it's toll on the memory StJohn Moonbird 05-04-2006, 20:56 I went to ecclesfield comp also, i left in 1977 and skipped all the way down the drive :hihi: , i remember Mr Jennings, Mr Glen and Mr Howarth ohhh wish i was better with names. :| Bikertec 06-04-2006, 00:18 If it's St John Fletcher, you'll remember my brother Tim.Hi Ant I left the year before you, I remember Mr King a bloody good history teacher. And Mr Knibbs. Ant 06-04-2006, 07:08 StJohn, my brother's name is Tim Atkin. Mine was Tony at school (though I don't think I hung around with your crowd much). Picked up the nickname Ant soon after I left, which kinda stuck. It gets confusing - I'm also called Anthony by another crowd. We were both in the rugby and athletic teams, if that helps. Mick, was that a different Mr King? I think yours may well have been the bell-ringing dude. Mine was a slim, quiet spoken fella. I can't remember what he taught as he was just my form teacher. Mr Knibbs never taught me either, but I remember him as being a likeable bloke. Anyone remember Hoggy Jennett? He was one scarey German teacher. He was known to throw plastic waste bins at people who weren't giving him 100% attention. I remember Mrs Quine as well. She was my first year art teacher, and her eyes weren't quite - well, parallel, if you know what I mean. She'd point at a girl to the right of the class, and shout "You boy!" whilst her eyes were looking at a) a boy to the left of the class, and b) the fire extinguisher. Bloody confusing. Hi Tony, Yes I remember both you and your brother, I was in the rugby team with Tim. Sadly I'm not in touch with anyone from my school days. The only person I saw after school was a guy called Andrew Pell, and he ended up killing himself. Ant 07-04-2006, 06:51 Yeah, I remember hearing about Andrew's death. Didn't know the guy, but it was sad to hear of. I remember him dating a really pretty girl in the year above me. Frazer Belafonte (remember him?) appeared on a tv documentary in 2000 about the eclipse. Some project he was doing with Sheffield Uni, as I recall. I've been in contact with Debras Jarvis & Lee, Angela Raw, Morag Jackson and Helen Dakin since leaving. And that's about it! It seems we're both out of touch. I bet he's bald now all the best ones go bald!! I can still see him in his football strip. By the way I had been sponsered at 2p per mile but cunningly changed them to half p's on form and made a bit of profit. I was in the final year the minibus they were trying to buy was no good to me! I'd swing for him today as old as me might be, the b****d! i was there from 69 to 74 and every word youve said is spot on, nice one. sheffsand 24-03-2009, 20:28 sycamore i was there same time as you i did russian with mr macdonald he was like 7 ft tall - do u remember him, i think i ended up in 5c2 or summat - u? sycamore66j 24-03-2009, 23:39 sycamore i was there same time as you i did russian with mr macdonald he was like 7 ft tall - do u remember him, i think i ended up in 5c2 or summat - u? hi sheffsand. sorry i dont remember him & i definitly didnt do russian, only did french and i cant remember that teachers name either, mind you i hated french anyway.my best teacher would have been josh king,i still enjoy history and archeolagy to this day. my forms were 1p...2p...3n...4n...and 5r. I went on to be a primary school teacher Almondbury in Huddersfield for thirty years and have recently discovered that the Deputy Head of Almondbury High, Mick Nolan, has now become the Head of Ecclesfield. I remember the school being out of control, with only a handful of teachers (such as Mr Williams & Mr Howarth) who could keep control. Many of the windows had been put through, and room 5 had been completely torched. How I got out of that place with any qualifications is one of life's little mysteries. Grew up quick. I see that Mr King has been killed in a motorcycle accident - I heard that he had been sacked for making a girl stand on a desk, and lift her skirt up. I always felt sorry for him, because he got all the idiots, and it must have eventually got to him. Anyone remember Philip (Percy) Claxton? He was a great teacher for 6th form, but couldn't control the other classes. Same with Mr Pilling. Mr Guest was my form tutor for 2 years, and was new into teaching in 1979. Apparently, he had played football for England under 21s. I was one of the computer swots (still am!), and was one of the first 6 pupils to be introduced to the school computer by Mr Burkinshaw and Mr Carter in 1980. Ground breaking stuff! I still do a lot of web and flickr stuff under the name wakefieldpinball. Please see my other posting on the lower school. My initials are MRD, but I like to keep things anonymous on the internet if that is OK. Ta. Oh, nearly forgot Mrs Jolly, the inappropriately named dinner bag (sorry, lady). sycamore66j 11-03-2010, 22:45 ahh yes, who can forget the dinner bags!! werent they wonderful. NOT!! wakefield 12-03-2010, 03:51 Mrs Jolly had a bucket of water of water & a cloth, and her task was to wipe the trays clean. One day she got the bucket over the head. nefertari 12-03-2010, 15:53 OMG Mrs Jolly !!!:gag:My Mum used to say to me ''I know her, if she starts tell me'' :hihi:And the name :hihi:what a miserable old bag she was :hihi: zepstox 12-03-2010, 23:48 hi sycamore66j ive been talking to guzziowl face to face and he told me you remember me its hockey, how are you its a long time but i remember you i will talk later got to go to his house to drop of a pic of us both seeing as you might meet when he visits hear from u soon im going to read all the threads Hey up Hockey, you'll remember me as Boggy.
