Are you a Lord of the rings fan or a Harry Potter fan?
For me it has to be The Lord Of the Rings without a doubt one of the best films made so far

I've not voted because there was no option for me. I don't like either of them. :?
LotR, purely as Harry Potter was stolen ;)
Michael_W 04-05-2003, 10:56 PM Lord of the Rings gets my vote.
Hixxy 04-05-2003, 11:03 PM Why isn't there an option for 'I hate them both' ?

Moon Maiden 05-05-2003, 12:50 PM For me it has to be Lord of The Rings - but it has more eye candy for my age group.
Top ten things you could do alone with Viggo Mortensen :P :D
Moon Maiden
"I' can't vote yet, because I haven't seen them both to be eligible to vote for any of the above" option is missing!
:?
mikey 05-05-2003, 01:27 PM Harry Potter for me, Lord of the rings was boring
Sidla 05-05-2003, 04:19 PM I like Harry Potter. The film inspired me to read the books, which LOTR didn't manage to do and getting me to read books is an incredibly difficult task. I'm about to start on the third book after finishing the Chamber of Secrets earlier today.
mslotus 07-05-2003, 11:32 AM Only one thing to do with him moon maiden. Completely devour him yum.

LOL, no offense but Harry Potter are kids books!
But they are all damn good and I can't wait till the 5th one comes out. However, you really should give LOTR a go. I read these as a kid and loved them sooo much. Harry Potter is a much easier read than LOTR admittedly, but LOTR is quite special and I'm proud of the fact that I read it as a child and seeing it come alive on screen was just fantastic.
As for being inspired to read the HP books after the film, that was lucky that it did. I was very very disappointed with Harry Potter (the first one), but I read the books first. The book was far far better than the film and I thought a lot of the magic was lost in the film.
LOTR, being a big fan since a child I was very nervous of the film, however I think they have done a grand job. I voted LOTR in the end although I love them both, LOTR has been an early childhood memory for me and the film was a better intepretation of the book than Harry Potter. I also found the kids acting in the first HP very wooden and it annoyed me.
In my opinion, HP is probably popular and may win the poll because its easy to read, a good fun story and kids and adults like it, so its a family thing, and its very now.
LOTR, is probably more suitable for older children and adults who can be bothered to read it and listen and pay great attention to the plot when watching the film. Also I think some people may find it hard to follow films that end on cliffhangers as they do in the LOTR and have to wait another year!
There is no comparison, it has to be LOTR.
I haven't read the Harry Potter book but fell asleep watching the film.

As I said I don't normally read books, so I need an easy read to keep my concentration. Anyway, I am a kid.
DaBouncer 08-05-2003, 07:41 PM LOTR kicks Harry Potters behind any day of the week!
P.s. Is swearing allowed on this forum?

SpiderPete 07-11-2005, 10:35 PM While I am having a "Madonna night" listening to her new album and the remixes of "Hung Up" I thought I would use the "search" button and see what polls I havent voted on and wake them up.
If it annoys you... tough :P

Harry Potter sucks, probably good for pre-teens I imagine !
LOTR is over-rated IMO... Sure beardy wierdy types and sci-fi nerds love it but I still think it's over-rated.
Potter all the way!
redrobbo 08-11-2005, 11:54 AM I'll second that Rich!
Harry Potter anytime. I found Lord of the Rings incredibly boring and dull.
venger 08-11-2005, 12:10 PM Well we are all entitled to an opinion.
Peter Jackson and co have done a fab job IMO.
Some people just love to hate stuff sometimes.
Films: Harry Potter films are terrible, so LOTR films get my vote
Books: I do prefer the Harry Potter books simply because they're easier to read!
robbie 08-11-2005, 08:27 PM god, there really is no comparison.
Glory_Box 08-11-2005, 09:26 PM It has to be Lord Of The Rings! Yes I know I'll end up going to see the new Harry Potter film, but c'mon! LOTR kicks underage wizards behinds! If you don't believe me, look at these points:
1) Fitter guys - Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen are much better looking than Daniel Radcliffe...I don't know many girls who would kick Orlando out of bed for eating crackers, put it that way.
2) Groovy battles - Half an hour of elves and men kicking scary monsters butts? That's fun for ALL the family! Quidditch can get a bit repetitive. Plus, if you've ever seen Orlando Bloom swinging two swords in the air, you've seen heaven.
3) Better actors - Christopher Lee, Sir Ian McKellen = good actors. That Ron Weasley kid who always looks like he's **** himself = crap.
4) Storylines - LOTR flows consistantly, whereas the same thing happens in every Harry Potter film. Harry goes to Hogwarts, Harry plays some Quidditch and casts some spells, Harry fights the bad guy, Harry defeats the bad guy, the credits roll.
:P
banesmabes 09-11-2005, 09:49 AM I have never understood the fascination with LOTR. I have tried to read the books on a number of occasions and have never got past the first 100 pages or so because they are so dense and hard-going. I love to read and rarely give up on a book, but if an author can't be bothered to make their book readable then that's their problem!
I did watch the first film, but again, I couldn't see what the fuss was about - I really did think it was very average.
I love the Harry Potter books on the other hand. They are easy to read, beautifully written, and appeal to all ages. Yes, primarily they are children's books, but anyone who sticks their nose up at reading them for this reason is just being a snob - a good book is a good book. As far as the films go, well, sometimes they're ok, sometimes they just make me cringe (mainly because Daniel Radcliffe is such a bad actor and because they leave so much of the detail out) - they're not a patch on the books.
