angelicspoon 23-03-2004, 09:39 I want to have my lip pierced but not sure where to go. I want it done this Sat but dont finish work till 7 - R any open late or on Sundays?
I wanted to go to the one in Hillbsro but my boyfriend says that its not that clean so go somewhere else. Any ideas and prices???? Please let me kno B4 I change my mind!!!!
Feline just off Ecclesall road is currently the only place in Sheffield I would personally use, and they're only open until six and closed on Sundays. In a similar thread not so long ago, the Van Schaik's place was getting some good reviews from other forum members...
I'll second Feline. Had piercing done there myself.

Er, why??
Why not? Just because its something that you personally wouldnt want to do, doesnt mean that others think the same way you do.
As has been said before, Feline are great, wouldnt hesitate to reccomend them. Im booked in there myself this Friday for 4 hours of tattooing on the tops of my feet. Von Shaiks (sp?) at Hillsborough are supposed to be good, but I cant really comment as Ive had no personal experience of them. Ive heard good reports about them, but Ive also heard some stuff that makes me a bit wary about the place. Primal on Glossop Road arent too bad, but I wouldnt go there myself on pricipal (long story, wont bore people with it here.)
All in all, you wont go wrong with Feline.
Ugh, I fail to see why people see the need to voluntarily mutilate their bodies by getting piercings.
It's un-natural IMO.
Thats your opinion, and your entitled to it. However, its not the opinion of everyone else. At the end of the day, its not your body thats being "mutilated", so whats the problem?
fnkysknky 23-03-2004, 15:54 Heard very good things about Feline - if I ever get a tattoo done I'll probably go there tbh. At what point did anyone ask about opinions on piercings - keep ya noses out :)
Leviathan 23-03-2004, 16:02 I had a piercing done at Primal on Glossop Road, and would recommend them.
Just make sure you look at this link first before you get your lip pierced (http://www.danaid.com)

As tragic as Daniel's death was, body piercing was not entirely responsible for it. Over two years later, there has still not been any proven link between his death and the studio that pierced his lip. I've read various articles on the matter where doctors suggest that Daniel's heart condition was a major factor in both his illness and death.
It is highly possible that Daniel could have contracted septicaemia through being pierced, but then again septicaemia can be contracted any way that this particular bacteria can get into the blood stream. If he had given himself a papercut and contracted it that way, would there be a call to ban paper? It might seem an absurd analogy, but there you go...
The information on Danaid needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. For example, it states that septicaemia is a blood borne pathogen that is transmitted in the same way as HIV and hepatitis. That's not true, and as far as I'm aware you can't "catch" it as the site implies. Someone may prove me wrong here though ;-)
My point at the end of the day is to take responsibility for your own actions. Check out the studios you plan to visit, get recommendations, do some research on contamination and how to avoid it. Oh, and if you know you have a life threatening heart condition it might be wise to actually let the piercer know.
Another vote for Jayne at Feline.
Had about 8 piercings done by her, can't recommend her enough.
Van Shaik's (sp?) is actually ok too but I would prefer Feline.
Also, if people don't like piercings, fine. Don't have them. If others want them - let them, its not like its hurting YOU is it?

Absolutely, which is why I asked the question. Why get your lip pierced? Does it not get in the way when eating/drinking/kissing? Just curious - that's all - no need to get all defensive!

In my experience it doesn't get in the way of anything at all, but I wear a labret stud in mine. The few times I have worn a ring in my lip, I had a dribbling problem when drinking because the ring didn't allow my mouth to make a perfect seal around the glass. With practice, that would have eventually stopped but I much prefer the look of the stud so it didn't really concern me too much!
Oh someone has got on their high-horse havent they
I have piercings, I am not against piercings
However, the piercers are not medical experts, they dont bother to ask about your medical history in any detail (well mine didnt anyway when I had my various ones done) and most people wouldnt know that a heart condition is a serious problem with piercings.
So it is important that anyone thinking of having a piercing is alert to the possible downsides before they do it.
I turned out to be allergic to liquid spray antiseptic, it brought me out in a rash. The studio didnt even tell me this might happen, so I was a bit scared before I found out what it was and sorted it out.
I was attempting, by linking to Daniel's site, to raise awareness, which is the point of the website. People need to know what they are doing before they do it
Knowledge is power

Oh and it is not "over two years" it is 14 months, and if memory serves me correctly, his inquest begins today. I expect it will get in the newspaper over the next few weeks.

Belle, I certainly hoped that's not aimed at me as I am most definitely not on my high horse - just on a mission to educate, like yourself.

I agree with you wholeheartedly and knowledge is indeed power, which is why I pointed out the information that I did. There are always two or more sides to a story. You presented one, I presented another. I'm not in opposition to you or anyone else on this matter - I'm merely providing people with information that may help them, just as you did.
*Twinkle* 24-03-2004, 20:08 Oh, and if you know you have a life threatening heart condition it might be wise to actually let the piercer know.
Thats correct. To be honest, the piercer should ask you. It's only right that they take the time to go through the consent form with you, explaining everything and checking there are no medical reasons why a piercing may be harmful to that individual.
I used to work for Claire's Accessories and although they only do minor piercings such as lobe and cartilage on the ear, there are still very strict guidelines which piercers must adhere to. Any piercer who doesn't ask for your medical background/state of health isn't interested in giving you a professional piercing. (Which is what you want at the end of the day)
Also, no matter how much research you do into the piercing place, remember the piercer is the expert and the best person to ask is them! The best customers I've had are the ones who ask lots of questions, because they tend to take in the aftercare procedures more and don't come back with a problem.

Agreed - people need to take responsibility for their actions, do the research and ask the questions. I think the best thing I could do here is dig up an old debate between myself and Love Doctor, which some people may find interesting in this case.

Belle: I'm sorry I got the dates wrong, but don't really see what a difference it makes.
fredsredhat 24-03-2004, 20:51 Van Shaik's in hillsborough are very clean. many a hour under the tattoo gun a quite a few piercings later and i've never had a problem. they all know what they are doing, they're professional and helpful. i wont go anywhere else. Nick.
Jumping in a tad late here , but I'd also heartily reccomend Feline - I've had some tattoos done there. Friendly, clean, comfy, free cat stroking and a lolly as a reward for being good !!!

Myself and SLH73 had four hours each under the needle at Feline today - fantastic stuff and pictures can be found here (http://www.arrison.co.uk/pics/tattoo/) if anyone is interested.
No cat there today, but there was Juggalo - a fat corgi who liked to jump for lollipops! Back on topic, Feline is superb and I really can't recommend them enough.

Photos have been moved to a nicer looking, more user friendly gallery. They can now be found here (http://www.arrison.co.uk/gallery/)
FairyNormal 27-03-2004, 17:40 I had a nipple piercing at Primal on West Street and found them good. I also had nose, tongue and web piercings done at Pure Elements on the ground floor of the market. I know market stalls tend to have a bad reputation but I for one can vouch for the cleanliness and professionalsim of all at Pure Elements. I would go there every time and Kay is a good and professional piercer.
Babooshka 29-03-2004, 08:47 Pardon my innocence but what is a web piercing ?

A web piercing is the bit of skin between your finger and thumb. I had a ring through it until I broke my finger and thumb on the dodgems and had to have it in plaster for several weeks ....... ouch!!!

I never said nobody was supposed to look at it. I said nobody forced anyone to click it. It was origianlly posted with the line "if anyone is interested" Given the topic of the thread, and of that particular post, would have given most people an idea that yes, it would contain photos of body piercings and/or tattoos, and various body parts. Basically, if you think you might not like it, dont click it. If you click it anyway and find you dont like it, dont complain about it, its your own fault.
Rusted Root 13-07-2004, 12:02 Okay this is just a question about labret piercing. I thought I'd add it here rather than start another thread. ;)
I had my labret pierced yesterday with a barbell. Thing is the barbell feels quite tight on my lip and it is scratching against my teeth. I heard that this is normal as the barbell needs to be big to allow for swelling.
Also, the disc in my mouth is pressed firmly into my skin that it has flattened the skin and has, I dunno, torn the skin around it or something. Not that it hurts or anything but is this normal?
Also guys, anyone know how long you have to wait before you can change the barbell?? Thanks ;)
Rusted Root 13-07-2004, 12:04 Err, maybe I should have posted this in the General Chit-chat bit. Sorry mods!
Rubysoho 13-07-2004, 16:12 Should be okay when swelling goes down, I have had a lip piercing for nearly ten years now and when I put a labret stud in it still sinks into the skin surrounding it. If in doubt go back to where you had it pierced and show them/ask their advice!!
Your lip is swollen from the piercing. Give it a week for the swelling to go down, keep it clean (soak it in salt water, 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a mug of warm water, make sure its completely dissolved, twice a day), and see how it is in a week or so. Once the swellings gone, you should be ok to change the jewellery.
And just out of curiosity, who pierced it? Because if its scratching against your teeth, its too high up. It should be pierced just below the gum line.
Rusted Root 13-07-2004, 19:36 Thanks for the help guys. The swelling has gone down quite alot since when I made this post! Oh yeah I had my lip pierced at Eternal Ink, the one on West Street. Its kindof halfway under my gumline and halfway on my teeth. Thanks ;)
i wouldent go anywhere else other than mr personalitys on woodseats they are brilliant
hey my dad part-owns mr personality on woodseats! i would always recommend it! it's extremely clean, the staff are experienced and friendly too.
Can only suggest Primal Piercing on West Street. Little more costly than the others but ya get a better job done.
Primal...the studio thats so good they wont do female genital piercing because its, and I quote, "too dangerous".
LOL! I've never even heard of Primal and quite glad I haven't if thats their reaction.
What tosh.
This question always comes up - where to go for piercings.
Feline for "standard" and unfortunately I have to leave S Yorks for "advanced" and am happiest at Manchester Piercing Studio (near Afflecks Palace).
SatanInHeels 23-07-2004, 10:29 Feline is the best i have been in so far, but not open sundays and they dont do piercings on mondays i dont think. (well they didnt wen we travelled to the other side of the city to get a piercing the other day) following this dissapointment, we went to primal.. which was a nice place although a little more pricey.
Yup Jayne at Feline has Mondays as her day off. She's great for standard piercings but my main bugbear is that she doesn't like to do surface piercings. I do all my own standard piercings now anyways but I do recommend her :)
Mind you I'd be happy to wait a day to get pierced tho Satan!
If she did do surface piercings I wouldn't be off to Manc...
I can sort of see her point in not wanting to do surface work, simply because of the fact that theyre much more likely to go wrong and reject than most standard piercings. Still the best piercer in Sheffield either way. And Primal and Eternal Ink are the same place BTW.

thats where I went to get my belly bar done!!! been trying to think what the name of that place was for ages!!!! Good place, guy that did mine was really cool bit of a twisted sense of humor :D me n my mate doing piercing buddies then went to the Big Tree after for a swift one
Rusted Root 03-08-2004, 23:10 Primal and Eternal Ink are the same place? Hmm.
Anyway the barbell ball came unscrewed when I was cleaning my labret and it bounced on the floor and vanished. I had to take the stupid thing out and its healed now. Damn it! :(
Another vote for Jayne at Feline (she's great!)and one against Primal Piercing - my friend went there to get her septum done, and the piercer said she'd never done one before! Not to mention they charge about twice as much as anywhere else...

Theres a blatant lie from the piercer then...she did my septum about 4 years ago, and my wifes about 2 years ago. Another reason why I now wouldnt touch them with a bargepole.
one just off middlewood rd, in hillsborough! the 1 with the scary tattoo guy.
proper sound clean place
recently had top of ear done, and its fine, not septic or anything
id rather pay prices than have my ear all yellow and minging!! :)
Had my tongue pierced last Saturday. I was going to go to Jayne at Feline but she was away for the weekend so I went to Kay at Pure Elements on recommendation from Fetish Fairy. Good advice, cheers Fairyness!
Kay was very friendly, professional and I hardly felt a thing. Nice little chat about aftercare and very relaxed throughout the whole thing. Going back after Tuesday to get a smaller bar put in after it's healed.
So far I've tried Van Schaiks, Feline and Pure Elements and all have been fine. I think if I go for any other piercings I'll be going back to Pure Elements or Feline though.
Iv had all my peircins done in hilsbrough n thought it was well gd i got my nose done belly button top ear n tragus n they av never been infected n it was very clean!! :hihi:
badhairdo 15-05-2007, 21:17 With regards to Primal/Eternal Ink for piercing - alot has changed now! We do do genital work and surface work.
Yes, I should point out that the comments made in this thread from me and SLH73 refer to the old piercer, who is now longer working at Primal/Eternal.
i wud to iv had tatoos there wouldnt hav em done any where else but von shaiks is clean n gd for peircins!
Jade1286 22-02-2011, 19:33 I want my belly button pierced, like, really badly. My mum says yes, but my dad says im not old enough. Whats the legal age for belly button piercings?
Blue banana was very good when i got my ear done
I want my belly button pierced, like, really badly. My mum says yes, but my dad says im not old enough. Whats the legal age for belly button piercings?
As far as I remember, the legal age for any kind of piercings for an unaccompanied customer is 16, but any piercing studio should be able to tell you, and also, I presume it is a legal requirement for them to have details of their terms and conditions on a notice in their premises; all studios I have been to have such a notice up.
BTW, on the subject of belly button piercings, I had mine done about a year ago, but had to take it out when the stud started working its way out of the edge of the hole, and it had never healed properly. Does anyone know if I can have the same piercing done again in the same place, as an old piercing would normally heal with a small amount of scar tissue. Has anyone else had problem with piercing healed piercings again?
BTW, I just realised that this thread appears to be in the wrong section of the forum: it must have been posted in the 'Going Out' Section because the OP requested info about late night piercing studios on Saturdays before they were going on a night out; there are a number of other threads on piercing and a 'Tattoo Megathread' on the 'Sheffield Discussions' part of the Forum.
Hoping the Mods can help on this, as they always are happy to move threads to the most relevant sections!
