Hi Every1, just wonderin if any1 can help me out?

My sister has got a female rabbit, shes about 8months old, the mother rabbit was a dutch dwarf that escapped and wen the owners got her back she was pregnant so not entirley sure what her dad was (a rabbit obviously!!) cos she hasn't got the normal markings of a dutch she is all black and quite big, any way they recently moved house and now have a really big secure garden so Morgan can run about and not escape (before she was only in a run cos the garden wasn't secure) anyway we think she is lonley cos she follows all the neighbours cats around wen they are on the garden and tries to sunggle up to them. Yesterday my sis went to a pet shop and the woman told her that another female rabbit would get on with her so we have bought one and are picking it up Saturday, it is a 8 week old lop eared. We have bought it a seperate hutch and are planning on just letting them out together. Does any1 have any advice on the best way to introduce and them and make sure there oky 2getha??

Thanks in advance and sorry bout rabbiting on...................lol

From personal experience, i would just let them out together separated by a few metres. They'll soon find exch other and no doubt get along.

When you say secure garden, is it secure from other rabbits?? I had a secure garden but it didnt stop the neighbours rabbit from digging a hole under the fence. Theirs was male, mine was female.....guess what happened a few weeks later.

Yeah the garden is secure from other rabbits, the fence which goes all the way round has concrete foundations about a foot under the floor!!

We had 2 girl rabbits wen we were kids, well we were told they were girls, supposed to be sisters turned out they had been sexed wrong and we had 8 babbies!!!

Are rabbits not known for their sociable behaviour? - especially towards rabbits of the opposite gender - Let 'em get on with it. I suspect that they have more in common than not, ie I doubt one will profess a love of the teachings of chairman Mao and the other will call him a dirty commie pig :)

Hiya,

You don't say whether Rabbit Number One is neutered? There are a number of good reasons for doing this as well as preventing pregnancies... Lady rabbits are much more placid and friendly when they've had the op (sexual frustration can be an irritating thing!), and it also takes away the risk of ovarian cancer. Rabbits that aren't neutered have an 80 per cent risk of developing this by the time they're five-years-old apparently.

Also if Rabbit Numero Uno isn't neutered, she may very well view the garden as HER territory, and could be a little put out when a new girl starts hopping around. You should also bear in mind that if Rabbit Number Two is only a baby she will be considerably smaller and therefore more vulnerable if the first rabbit does attack her.

The best thing to do is to put Rabbit Number Two in her cage to settle in, and then let Rabbit Number One spend a few days hoping freely round the cage and inspecting its contents. Meeting each other through the bars for the first time ensures the safety of the new girl, and you can also gauge Rabbit Number One's reaction to her. Then, in due course, Rabbit Number Two can be let out of her cage, and then can be introduced properly under close supervision. Don't leave them alone together for the first few weeks, until you're sure they are friends.

And get them both down to the vets to have them neutered, if you haven't already!

A friend of mine sent me a photie of Her holding a Rabbit.... I can't see Her in it anymore as it's been taken over by the rabbits.... oh! and don't let the rabbit breed with a cat.... could you imagine a bunny crossed with a cat.... a stud that can climb anything and I mean anything.... :hihi:

Glad you decided on another rabbit and not a guinea pig as i have heard when these 2 different animals are joined at 2 separate times - the rabbit eats the guinea pig!

Let us know how you get on!
