When you are drunk.. you think I'm lovely

What do you actually want?

I meet you, open myself up slowly, quietly with humility.
What would you ever see in me?
Im not pretty, or funny or articulate.

But you met me anyway.

We had a laugh,
We enjoyed conversations and anecdotes and quips and ... sex.
You phone me, drunk and delerious.
I am lovely, I am special .. you said
Then you didn't call.
Thats fine, we're grown adults we don't live in each others pockets.

The phone sits grinning like a laughing bully on the table,
"ha you sucker" it cries.

The mobile pings new message!
You're drunk again,
You tell me I am lovely again,
You say you need me.

Like a silly teenager I run to you,
Like a silly teenager I am happy.

Thats fine we're grown adults we don't live in each others pockets.

You're drunk, you say you're scared of being hurt,
Of being used,
Of falling in love again... but

I am lovely.

Am I really?
I don't feel very lovely.
I am your psychotherapist,
Your comfort blanket,
The sweet reminder that you can still pull,
The bitter actuality that I'm still there in the morning,
I was lovely until the sun rose and spoiled the moment.
It's different somehow.

To be with someone is better that being alone,
Is that who I am?
I know when that mobile pings,
I will come running,
Like the darkest nights need filling.

You need to know,
Each night is a piece of me,
I give myself to you,
Not physically but emotionally.

Hard hearted, painful and real,
The need for the touch of another human being.
The feeling that you really give a sh*t,
My priority? well that is it.

When you're drunk you think Im lovely....
When you're drunk you make me think I am loved.

In my past I felt the same way about one forum member (glady no longer here).

Yes it hurts, I guess some people realising there is a person behind the words is a difficulty. Not just that but then linking that mind with the person they are ****ing.

Well if you ever want to reveal your innermost thoughts and emotions in this way again you will have a very appreciative audience, and the forum will be all the richer for it.
Be Happy:)

I've never been in that particular situation, but reading that made me feel for a moment what it'd be like. That is really beautiful. It's strange how the darker emotions wake up the creative mind.

All the best with it.

Well... to be honest, I don't take kindly to being messed around and even if it caused me a lot of pain I'd just get out of there and deal with that pain myself rather than carry on that way.

But, that's just me.

Some fine song lyrics there - most of the best songs come from some form of turmoil - put it to music!

Crayfish
01-02-2006, 00:59
I was thinking that actually :)

Had a go in my head though, didn't seem to work that well, poetry isn't often easy to songify.

Sorry okayitsme, didn't mean to imply you were confused. That'd be my take on the situation in your place but that's just because I hate playing games. I don't know, maybe I imagined myself into a place that isn't actually where you are from your original post.

Morning everyone.

Ahh the night can do funny things to a person can't it. I just read my poem back and thought "how pathetic am I"

Feeling much better this morning, thanks for all your kind words.

Wow, I loved reading that.

Although it did remind me of my ex.....man that guy had issues!! My excuse was I was on the rebound -BIG time!!

Actually I feel quite positive now cause I know how lucky I am to have gotten out of that relationship when I did!

Thanks!

Sorry for quoting out of the poem but this bit really bites.

Problem is that people just don't realise what it does to someones self esteem. You can't just pick yourself up when someone leaves you feeling like a bag of sh*t.

Just wanted to say this.
I don't think you should ever say 'it's pathetic' when it's words from the heart. We're only human, are we not ?

Maybe this is the beauty of the internet. Everybody's anonymous. You're able to express yourself and reach a larger audience. Obviously, we're reading... but, hopefully what you wrote here would have a totally different meaning one day. Like any other songs and poems through time. Don't worry, one day, the threads will be pushed back, and be filed and achived somewhere on a server, like a piece of history.

You asked, why and what did we readers thought of it. I will also quote the same as previously;

I am your psychotherapist,
Your comfort blanket,
The sweet reminder that you can still pull,
The bitter actuality that I'm still there in the morning,
I was lovely until the sun rose and spoiled the moment.

This part caught my eyes. (Maybe cos I can relate to such a position ? Who knows. It brought back some old memories for myself.) You shouldn't be someone's psycho-therapist. You should be their lover. Neither should you be their mother. If someone gives you such feelings, then maybe they are not meant to be for you ? Be with someone that brings out the best in you, and you them.

Yeah i know! But part of getting over it is realising that hes a n*b and not worth the hassle. Cos then youll know that youre worth more than that. Picking yourself up is EXACTLY what youve got to do. Its just one of those things that youve got to do yourself, unfortunatley as much as other people can say it and give you good advice, you need to stand up for yourself.

I will Duffer, and thanks to all you lovely people who are reading my ramblings, but sometimes thats what you do. If you don't waffle on like a crazy person you go a bit loopy.

Many (if not most!) of us wouldn't. Not all blokes are ****s - some are, most aren't - it's not the Y chromosome that does it, it's just the fact that well they're ****s!

Aye, I'll second that Neil - the fact is, quite a lot of people seem to become ******** in relationships. Don't think gender has a lot to do with it.
