You might already be aware of the event that is taking place on 22/23 October, but if you don't, here's a bit of info:
We have the school sports hall at Firth Park School for the whole weekend, which consists of 4 badminton courts. 3 of these will be used for 12 of us to attempt to break the world record for the longest badminton marathon (currently 28hrs 37seconds!), and the 4th court is a community court, which will include coaching and masterclass sessions held by Badminton England, plus we will have Alex Langley visiting us on the Saturday too (Female badminton player currently 4th in the UK at singles). From all this, we're hoping to raise £10,000 for the NSPCC.
For the record attempt, we're looking for SFBC club members to help us out with activities such as time keeping, scoring and being a witness to the event. The days and night are split into 4 hour sessions, and for every session you volunteer for you have the option of being entered in to a prize draw, to win tickets to ARSENAL vs FULHAM in the BT Corporate box, on 26/11/11!! You can do as many sessions as you want. If you can commit to at least one timeslot, please use this link here: http://www.doodle.com/scdya4pd79k78qgk
It's going to be difficult to attract people to do the overnight sessions, if any of you don't mind doing those it would be even more appreciated!
Another way to get involved is to play badminton on the Sunday, on the community court. The court will be free for you to use, and it would be nice to have SFBC players on there when the media and public figures are in attendance (Look North, Calendar, Sheffield Star, Mayor of Sheffield, David Blunkett).
The link for donations and sponsorship is here - http://www.justgiving.com/teams/SFBC-Badmintonathon - Please pass this around and encourage people to help us reach our target! I also have some business cards with the link on if anyone would like some.
One last thing, if anyone knows of any companies that might like to provide a banner, we're happy to swap some advertising space in return for a donation. If you would like more info please let us know.
Thanks for reading!
