Anyone just watch the "Death Wish" programme on e4? Wasn't it just the funniest thing?!!! I've seen this "escape artist" before and he's never struck me as actually being very good at..well..escaping...so it was no surprise when he failed to escape and was actually hung on live TV! :gag: Now that's what I call entertainment!!!

For those of you who didn't see it, it's being repeated now on e4+1 - and no, the guy didn't die though the extent of his injuries remain to be seen as e4 quickly jumped to a "technical difficulties" type screen, and then popped off to the adverts!

Mr. Mystery - Nice magic for children's parties & wedding receptions.

 :o Was it a drop hanging? I'd assume not.. but could you clearly see he was in difficulty? I'm always sceptical about these kind of things shown on tv but to think someone was actually hurt live on tv is horrible, even if they knew what they were doing.

Was it for real I wonder, or a Channel 4 publicity stunt? If it was genuine, I hope the blokes's ok.

[EDIT: Surely even an escape artist would have some sort of hidden safety mechanism built in, especially as the programme was live. I thought these sorts of things were meant to be illusions anyway?]

You'd assume so... If (as I imagine it is/should be) an illusion I'd assume that there would have been no risk of suitably compressing the neck otherwise there would be very little realistic chance of escaping without injury.

C4 are guilty of this before... with Darren Brown where the gullible watched an hour of their life away thinking he was playing Russian Roulette with a real gun... needless to say it was a load of balls and theere was never a loaded gun in the first place.

Still, if the gullible will watch such rubbish thinking it's real and they make a profit through advertising then good luck to them.

A stunt then? How completely unexpected; I'm so sorry I missed it. Channel 4's exec's must be slapping eachother on their collective backs in smug, self-congratulatory glee.

I remember a late night special staring Paul Daniels when I was about 8 years old. He supposidly got shut in door with spikes on it and died, the bbc cut to the news and made out he died. It worked then and people beleived it, cant remember the name of the programme though.

May be the Beeb could recreate it and kill him for real, it would make the licence fee worth paying!!!!

I vaguely remember that too. Wasn't it an April Fool's Day jolly jape?

Taken from www.tvcream.co.uk

Infamous late '80s Halloween Special ended with an iron maiden-based trick that apparently went wrong in front of various b-list celebs (who weren't in on the sting), until - after a repeat of the Biggles Dictates a Letter Python episode - Daniels turned up with a cheeky "I'm still alive, ha ha!"

Did anyone ever see that tape of Anthea Turner getting blown up (http://www.jastock.com/videos/anthea.asf) as she sat on a lorry trailer? A motorbike whizzed out of the trailer behind her, something went boom, knocked her off her perch and set her hair on fire. :hihi:

I believe she sued. ;)

Was it really that long ago? Blumin' hell, I'm geting old. It's in the same category, I think, as the Mike Smith/Sarah Greene/Parky never-to-be-repeated 'Ghostwatch' of Halloween 1992.

BBC gave up that sort of thing after "The Michael Lush Incident".

I remember that also. That had Mike Smith involved too, as I recall. It was a Noel Edmonds programme prior to monstrosity that had the large pink creature.

[EDIT: The large pink creature being Mr Blobby of course].

Was that the guy who was killed doing a stunt for Noels House Party or something?

I'd have sued too... no way should anyone get away with something like that...

Never seen that before... OMG! :o

I think this is what you maybe be talking about... it was a stunt on the Late Late Breakfast show...

Anyway this is what i found...

In October 1986, 25-year-old Michael Lush was killed in a Whirly Wheel stunt. The stunt was meant to be a bungee jump where the bottom of a box opened and the volunteer bounced on the bungee rope. However, during a rehearsal the bungee rope was not properly attached to the box. In the subsequent investigation it transpired that the safety supervisor hired to set up the stunt was not properly qualified.

But Noel was also named in a hellicopter incident... which is the one i was thinking of... nasty!

Mr Blobby was Noels Houseparty... :)

It is entirely possible that the e4 thing was just a stunt. However having seen the "escape artist" at work before i know he's not actually very good and has hurt himself before now. During the "act" you could clearly see the sliver of metal with which he was attempting to pick open the hangcuffs flip out of his fingers and shoot across the studio. You could also hear his assistant groan at this point. Perhaps it was just a set-up, but with this guy's track record I'm inclined to think he just screwed up.

Anyway, if he's okay they're burying him alive this Friday (e4 10pm).

It was a set up.My friend bring me a copy round to watch and you can tell it was all planned from the way it was script and they also not good actor's at that too.I knew nothing like this would really happen and i also been told it was repeted a few times later that night so that prove's it was a joke.
