Hello

This pub is re-opening 14th October. It is advertising 6 real ales, cider etc.

Should be a welcome addition to the Sheffield Real Ale scene. Somewhere to call on the way to Shakespeares perhaps :)

Fantastic news.

Has there been a proper change in ownership or has the existing pubco just brought new tenants in?

The last tenants were great but were royally screwed over by the owners.

Hope they haven't messed with the inside too much. It's got a brilliant interior.

It has, the toilets were quite unique as well, very old fashioned and relatively opulent.

I hope it's had a refurb inside as it was very tired looking last time I went in. It deserves it because it could be a really good historic city centre pub.

Have they fixed the ridiculously squeaky floorboards?

a proper pub needs squeaky floorboards

There's olde worlde charme and there is comedy. These are comical - literally every step across the pub makes a Two Ronnies style sound effect. They are underneath some hideous 1980s carpet that needs to be in a skip.

This used to be our meeting place on a Friday night before heading further into the centre.

The last time I went the prices were too high and the choice of beer fairly poor....Hopefully the beer will be better.

Last time I was in I think they had Greene King IPA on which is naff and Taylors Landlord which they were asking nearly £3.20 for. No wonder it shut down.

Yes I think it was Landlord I had the last time I went. It was OK. The place smelled of old chipfat though which never helps a pub. Hope it gets a deep clean.

From what I've heard its now an independently owned freehouse, its had a refurbishment, the kitchen has been enlarged so they can do more substantial food.

Real Ale wise a couple of pumps are ties to the supplier that did the cellar for them so expect well known national brands on those pumps, the remaining pumps will host changing guest beers from a local brewery, starting with Blue Bee.

A mate told me that they do hand-pulled Stones there too, but no-one above has mentioned it?
