Hi,

I'm a first time buyer, currently living in rented accomodation in Nethergreen, my partner and I are looking to get on the property ladder and there are a number of properties on the market in the Nether edge, namely Wath road, wake road and empire road, that are in our price range.

Can anyone give us some advice on the area, does it have good amenities, is it safe at night(i may be away a lot and my partner would be in on her own), is it a friendly neighbourhood.

We went for a drive round there last night about 10pm to get a feel for the area and there were a number of mischeivous looking youths hanging around that small roundabout bit near abbydale road, which concerned my girlfriend, but young kids hang around everywhere so you can't let that put you off.

So if you could share your experiences of the area good and bad, please post away.

cheers

Hi,

Lived there for 22 years. Nether Edge has three parts really.. the cheaper end round near abbeydale (100 - 160K), the middle part near nether edge rd (160 - 250K), and the posh part at the bottom of chelsea park.(250+)

It's all pretty safe i'd say... It has a post office, several mini markets, a takeaway, a laundrette.. so theres plenty near by. Only about 5 - 10 minutes by car to town, and has regular buses or access to abbeydale rd. Public transport access to Broomhill is pretty poor though with irregular buses (unless this has improved in the last few years). If you don't like hills its not so good either, the whole area is basically on a hill.

Overall one of the best places to live in sheff i reckon and I had a good childhood there, but unfortunately a lot of it is in the catchment area for the not so great Abbeydale school (again this may have improved in the last few years). You have to be further along (chelsea rd etc) to get into the silverdale / highstores area.

Have lived in Netheredge for about 8yrs now and have never had any problems. In a shared house at the moment, but moving into house (still in Netheredge) with just other half who works nights and have no worries about staying on my own.

Access to shops, post office and pub all good. Have had a bit of rowdiness lately but is limited to groups shouting amongst themselves. We're on the Abbeydale Rd end of Machon Bank and its fine.
