as most of your are aware i am moving from sheffield to Glasgow.
i have a dilemma in that one of my cats rarely ever comes home, he is 12 years old and i have had him 6 years.
this week i have had him come home twice and as i leave tomorrow have kept him in.
the problem is he has other "homes" he goes to to be fed, he has his territory here and i am unsure if it would befair on him for me to take him away.
i have someone staying in the house for a month before my mate moves in with her boyfriend and 5 cats so i think he wuld no longer come round.
should i take him with me or should i leave him here?
i was thinking about putting a collar on him ( he loses them all the time so i gave up!!!) i thought if i out a collar then whoever feeding him would notice and ask them to ring me to discuss them keeping him?

please help i am so torn as i love him to bits but feel i would be taking his life away:help: :help: :help:

Ive voted for no. I dont know much about cats, but surely if you take him, it would be difficult for him to get used to being somewhere else again, and when he goes out of the house you may find that he doesnt come back.

you should keep him in his new house for at least 2 weeks before letting him out and he should be fine!

I'm really attached to my 2 cats and i could never just leave them, they're too spoilt and pampered to fend for themselves in the real world :hihi:

Take the cat with you :)

You will regret it, I left mine at my parents as they don't allow pets when you rent..

One of mine died the other weekend :( Take him with you Sav

most probably will take him! i just felt it may be cruel to take him away now he is settled.

i was meant to be leaving tuesday and he turned up sunday. but i did not go due to being ill and then tonight he has come back and i am going tomorrow! he usually comes back about once a fortnight!!!!

Take him Sav! :) You can't be sure his other homes would want him full time, and Mini-Sav might miss him.

I'm missing you already! :(

take him with you... if he wanders off never to return so be it... if not he'll come back to you and show you that he has feelings for you to...

You should take him without a doubt. Cats are adaptable little creatures, and he'll soon get used to the new area and establish a new territory. I brought one of my mogs up from Gloucestershire, where he'd established a nice little territory for himself. I kept him in the house for a week a so, until he'd got used to the new place, then began to introduce him to the back garden once he'd shown an interest in going out. Gradually, he began to explore a bit more and eventually I let him wander around by himself. He's fine and happy.

Even if he does have other 'homes' where he goes for food, if you've had him for six years, he more than likely sees you and your house as his home base. He's going to be a bit distressed if he comes back expecting to find his family waiting with a bowl of Whiskas only to discover that you've buggered off without him!
...i was thinking about putting a collar on him ( he loses them all the time so i gave up!!!) i thought if i out a collar then whoever feeding him would notice and ask them to ring me to discuss them keeping him?...
If you do decide to leave him behind (and I hope you don't), the don't leave him without making sure beforehand that someone is responsible for him. Even though he visits a few different places for food, they might not welcome having to take him to the vet for his vaccinations, or when he gets sick.
