These ships along with hundreds of others were used to evacuate two hundred and fifty thousand troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940, many civilian volunteer seamen were killed during the operation. Tony 21-03-2004, 20:23 What happened to the Yorkshire Belle? little malc 22-03-2004, 10:49 Yorkshire Belle is still going strong, but is in Bridlington, I think this boat also went to Dunkirk, I think all three must have been built in the 1930s, making them all 60 odd years old. I wonder if ancient vessels like these have to pass the equivlent of the MOT? The name escapes me. Yes the Flamborian, go here. (http://www.nhsc.org.uk/NRHV/NRHV_Detail.cfm?ID=178) The Flamborian was built in 1938 by Cook.Welton & Gemmel Ltd and was originally named Boys’ Own and was based in Bridlington, Yorkshire and used to sail excursions around Bridlington Bay. Her original owners were I. Newby and Consortium and she was then owned by Andrea Connolly until 1998. Each year between April 1 and October 30, she carried up to 160 passengers on cruises of various times and distances around Bridlington Bay, viewing the shipping lanes, the cliffs at Flamborough Head and the seabird colony at Bempton.
