Thats tough. I wish you luck. Im in a Northern Counties house and Im on the list for a transfer because its way too small (there are 5 of us). I havent even bothered with the council because I have heard all the grumbles about how useless they are, so I dont want to go through the process of seeing something, bidding and getting my hopes raised only to be dashed.
What areas are you down for with Northern Counties?

Our house is in Beighton. You never know, if we get a bigger one you might end up with ours!
But I would add, its a very small 3 bedroomed, and so are the other ones in Beighton.
Hi there Betty
You need to seek some specialist advice from perhaps Shelter on 0800 888 4444.
I can however help you a little. There are 2 ways to getting Local Authority accomodation. If you are having to leave your home and going to be coming h/less in the next 28 days then you can apply to the Council to make a h/less application.
If you meet certain criteria eg: homeless, eligable (basically are you a uk citizen), priority need (you have children) then they would have a duty to place you in temp accomodation. The temp accomdation may not be fantastic but at least it would be somewhere to stay.
Whilst you are in the above accomodation they will then look at are you intentionaly h/less, in other words have you do anything to lose your current accomodation and then they look at your local connection (have you lived in sheffield for 6 out of last 12 months).
If you meet the above criteria Sheffield Council will have a duty to place you in permenant accomodation, you wont have a choice like on the waiting list but at least you would have affordable accomodation and a roof over your families head.
From the basic information given it may be worth approaching the council the make a h/less application. Any probs with this then call Shelter.
Good luck.. sure it will all be ok.

Make sure you take advice on whether your notice to quit has been served correctly, by that I mean giving the correct date for you to quit the property on. This is a common mistake made by Landlords, the date on the notice to quit must be specific to your tenancy and this will not necassarily be 2 months from when the new owners complete. If the notice has been served incorrectly you will get a bit more breathing space as you cannot be evicted if the notice is incorrect, take advice from Shelter, CAB or Sheffield' City Council's Housing Aid dept.
