Is anyone else in Sheffield having TV Reception problems this evening? We're in Broomhall and the only channel that seems to be unaffected is ITV. Channel 4's signal is so weak that the TV keeps on 'blue-screening' every few seconds! Has something knocked our aerial out of alignment or is anyone else noticing this?

We had trouble with Ch4 on Freeview digital and all the analogue channels were a real mess. Likely down to the high atmospheric pressure, - it often affects the signal from Belmont.

No problems in Lower Walkley. :)

Ahha, I think we are tuned into the Belmont transmitter (we get E Yorks/ Lincs BBC Local news instead of Leeds/Sheffield). Signal seems to be better now, just Channel 4 is a bit fuzzy but is at least watchable. I can well believe that the atmospheric pressure would affect the signal as GreyBeard suggests.

Our Freeview is now really bad and we're pretty high up, - about 1200 feet with a clear view of Belmont, might have to think about switching back to satellite this summer. We have a Sky dish installed but the digibox is bust.

I'm 60 miles away from Sheffield and my reception was really really bad last night. I was getting so mad, every time it seemed to clear up it would go all scrambled and 'no signal' would appear again. I don't know if it's better or not today. According to the BBC website it was due to high pressure but I've never seen my reception this bad before.

We are having terrible reception problems these last few days. This regularly happens when we have temperature inversions during high pressure weather systems. In our case most stations go fuzzy and occasionally we see Dutch programs in the background. In the past we have had very fuzzy dutch programs take over completely from some UK stations. My theory is that the inversion allows the dutch transmissions to bounce back to earth and get this far and they they use the same channels as the East Yorks transmitter.

My channel four reception was absolutely knackered this morning. Thought my telly was on the blink so glad to hear it's not just me. Annoying though int'it.

Aye, our TV reception (analog) went to pot yesterday too, all channels though, we're pointing to sheffield on one and belmont on the other, both useless, My portable aerial got a 'watchable' signal in various directions and yes, we get Dutch TV too in these conditions.

According to the Bracknell charts this HP system is set to persist until Sunday, but if the sun breaks through the inversion should lift.

The inversion is having other weird effects, earlier this morning the Meto radar was showing what looked like heavy rainstorms around the midlands

http://www.metoffice.com/weather/europe/uk/radar/animation.html

and at 0300 this morning in Scotland Aviemore had a temp of minus 6.3°C at 300m asl, whereas on Cairngorm at 1200m asl it was plus 5.0°C.

So I'm definitely not the only one! When I put the TV on this morning, BBC1 was unwatchable. I switched to ITV and saw a fuzzy image with "RECLAME" across it, followed by a series of (presumably) Dutch adverts!

This is definatly due to the intense high pressure over britain at the moment. Nothinbg to worry about and nothing you can do about it im affraid. I also got dutch radio interfeering with my radio yesterday, very wierd.

my mom just found the number and called the belmont transmittor company
remember when they used to put an advert on ( normal transmission will be resumed as soon as possible )

well by all accounts , mom got a right snotty cow , who was going on about the 1949 act and so on and so on , :suspect:
really helpful .......not
my mom said to her what about all the elderly people that call out a t.v engineer , and there is nothing wrong with their t.v
she went on to say that this will continue till all the digi boxes are in place .,...yeah right
she proceeded to tell my mom to call the BBC and complain to them

great eh

I noticed it this afternoon while watching Neighbours on BBC1 terrestrial, the picture was breaking up a bit and was really fuzzy... It's fine though if I watch it through Sky Digital.
