Does anyone remember Longley Park Baths I went there in the late 70's to early 80's when we used to have decent summers:gag: :bigsmile:

my mum used to go in the 70s, i dont rember it personally , but i rember seeing it, i rember going to the park in the 80s hen there was activities in the summer holidays:D

I went there often on the one day of summer we used to get between 1955 & 1960, we didn't swim as it was too cold, we only went to perv on the girls.
Has it gone now ?

i went there in 1982/83 it was good put the pump kept breaking down so they closed it for rest of summer.It wa free wen kids wa at school and in summer hols it wa 10p.

i use to go there in the 50tis. with my friends had some good time.

I packed in going to Millhouse Baths when I found out about Longley baths. whilst it was at the opposite end of the town it was a shade warmer. A normal size pool and well attended. Started going in the mid 50s and continued to the mid 60s. Mostly on a Sunday and in the latter years after work in mid week. Happy times

I remember going to longley in the 70s one of our group fell asleep a d woke up burnt he looked like a stick of red and white rock. Later that week the skin on his chest peeled off in one strip we thought his pain was very funny

I did'nt. Caught a bus to town and then a tram to Barnsley Road. Sometimes walked to Heeley and got a tram straight through. Further than Millhouses, but a warmer pool

i remember walking through longley park with my mates the night elvis died in 77,watching a gang of lads off buchanan /adrian crescent rolling oil drums down the hill from elm lane,getting them over the fence,then rolling them in the water,the baths were closed for a couple of days while the oil was cleaned out.

I also went to Herries but left in 89 x

I remember the Galas - diving, pillow fights on a pole(?) all good clean fun. spent many a happy day there for very little money - a shilling? (5p) Nearly drowned when Alan Moore pushed me in ( I'll get you back one day) and never ever went in the deep end. Last visited in 1972 as part of a sixth form experience. What an asset the baths were for us lucky locals - I lived nearby and went to Longley Juniors until 1966 then on to Chaucer until 1973. Happy days!

We all grew up together.

We used to walk to Longley Lido from Grenoside.

It was along way in 1977 for little legs!

If anyone can remember, my grandfather (Wilf Robinson) used to teach scuba diving there - got to be around the 50's

You obviously didn't go to Millhouses Baths. A very large pool and it was colder than Longley Baths, that's why I switched and started going to Longley. Started as a young boy and continued in my twenties. Often met the lads there after work. What a shame both are no more

I went in the 50s some time after work . millhouses bath was very cold . but had some great times there.and at longley.

My sister and me used to go to Longley baths all through the summer(always seemed to be be warm then!) we would walk there after school, and during the holidays.
We loved it, it seemed so special to us at the time. We both went to Shirecliffe, then Herries schools, I left in 74, she left 75.

I know how he felt!!!! My friend and I "wagged" school one day, that was in the very early 70's and didnt have any swim gear or towels so we bathed in our bra and pants.... let the sun dry us over and over again.... When I got home I was really ill and had to have doctor who diagnosed "sunstroke" Had to come clean to my mum where I had been!!!!!!!

I can't sat exactly, but I used to swim there as a child myself in the mid '60.

I used to go with my sister and a load of mates, lates 60`s, it was soooo cold, but we didnt care, we would take a sandwich and there was a cafe where you could buy an ice cream we used to go for the whole day, suncream??? oh no, olive oil to make us burn quicker!!! one day we burnt so badly I was sick and my sister burnt the soles of her feet and couldnt walk home. but still, happy days
