Services 47 / 48
Jordanthorpe – Herdings – Hemsworth – Sheffield – Shiregreen
The Monday to Friday frequency of Services 47 & 48 will change from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes giving a 6 minute frequency on common sections of the route. In addition, the section of route between Jordanthorpe and Holmesfield will be withdrawn resulting in the withdrawal of the 07:18 hours journey from Holmesfield and the 17:42 hours journey from Sheffield Interchange to Holmesfield.

Hahaha, they can't even manage to keep 'em running every 15 minutes, how the hell they expecting to run them every 12!!!

From what I can see they are merging routes to save money and drivers, and the 15/18 has been driven out of business by Stagecoach.

Yuck, bus companies are stupid.

These plans are unrealistic and won't work.

Not to mention that it'll make the 82 even worse than it already is....

The Holmesfield section they only had to run once a day and they have given up on that one! That makes the first bus of the day from Sheffield to Holmesfield around 7pm! Only other option now, other than drive, is to get 293 to Dronfield Woodhouse and walk the last couple of miles!

Derbyshire County Council Public Transport Unit have published the changes to buses to/from Derbyshire on their site www.derbysbus.net

Week commencing 25th April 2004
Services 15 & 18 (First South Yorks) : These services will be withdrawn completely, but within the Dronfield area alternative buses will be provided by new Services D1, D2 and D3 (see below).

Service 95 (First South Yorks) : This service will be revised, and journeys serving Spinkhill on weekday evenings and Sundays will be re-timed by 30 minutes.

Services 285, 286, 291, 293 & 294 (Thompson Travel) : These services will be taken over by TM Travel, and the timetables will be revised.

NEW Services D1, D2 & D3 (Stagecoach EM) : These new services will provide hourly daytime services on weekdays between Dronfield and Coal Aston (D1), Hallowes (D2) and Dronfield Woodhouse (D3).

Thank god I don't live in Dronfield..... They get an even worse bus service than Stannington (and I didn't think that was possible) :(

Even so the 83 route has been left to rot away, they're too embarrased to try and save face because of what they did last time to it!

The First service 48 didn't leave Holmsfield old horns untill 7.18 anyway,so it won't make much difference

My understanding is that the drivers are all finding work elsewhere as First are expecting too much - whatever that means. I have spent quite a bit of time waiting for 'missing buses' and when it has finally turned up the driver has informed enquiring customers that he's been poached from another route as they don't have enough drivers.

Well, the changes leave Dronfield with the following bus services:

14 Chesterfield-Apperknowle-Dronfield-Holmesfield (TM Travel)
43 Chesterfield-Dronfield Woodhouse-Dronfield-Woodseats-Sheffield (Stagecoach EM)
44 Chesterfield-Dronfield-Coal Aston-Sheffield (Stagecoach EM)
89 Chesterfield-Barlow-Holmesfied-Dronfield-Sheffield (TM Travel/Hulleys)
253 Sheffield-Coal Aston-Dronfield-Eckington-Halfway-Crystal Peaks (Aston Buses)
293 Chesterfield-Dronfield-Bradway-Sheffield (TM Travel)
294 Dronfield (Gunstones Bakery) - Sheffield circular (TM Travel)
D1 Dronfield Civic Centre - Coal Aston (Stagecoach EM)
D2 Dronfield Civic Centre - Hallowes (Stagecoach EM)
D3 Dronfield Civic Centre - Dronfield Woodhouse (Stagecoach EM)

Together the 43/44/253/293 offers 4 buses per hour between Dronfield and Sheffield, with each running a different route through Dronfield covering the residential fringes, so I think they will cope with the loss of First bus services!

But why would they be wanting to cut back on drivers? They run a permanent advertising campaign for them in the Star every Thursday night.

They are permanantly short of drivers because nobody wants to work for them. So if the services require less drivers then I guess logically less services will be cancelled due to driver shortages.

Or am I being naive using simple logic with buses....?

Exactly. Remember the bus strike of last year? Sheffield had the worst (or second worst) paid bus drivers in the country - yet local bus fares are ridiculously expensive.

I have no idea if the strike changed things...

Indeed, they might change the 82 and make it more reliable/frequent but that don't mean squat to me cos the 82s don't come far enough up Stannington for me to use them to come home from Town, because I don't live on the Hall Park or the Liberty estate.

What do you mean? What did they do to it the last time (apart from amke it worse of course).

Embarred! They should be f****** ashamed of themselves.

It put the fares up further for one thing. I don't know what else it changed.

293 Meadowhall-Sheffield-Millhouses-Bradway-Dronfield-Chesterfield

Well I've now found out the changes TM Travel are making to route 293 from 25th April, as Derbyshire county councils online journey planner (www.derbysbus.net) has been updated:

Weekdays - Chesterfield journeys after town centre going to royal hospital at Calow instead of railway station.

Saturdays - operates normal route via Bradway in both directions, and the frequency improved to every hour rather than every other hour.

All in all a result I think.

Derbyshire CC public Transport Unit put our PTE to shame. Why are the PTE so slow at giving us information which the bus companies give them 42 days in advance of changes. We will no doubt get to know with about 10 days notice on its site. It pays to look around the web sites!!!!

Andy C

10 days notice would be a bit too good for SYPTE - if they update BEFORE the timetable change we should think ourselves lucky!
