View Full Version : Who is the best live artist you have seen?
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 19:36 Sorry if this has been done before, did search couldnt find anything!
Pretty much as the title says, who rocked your world when you saw em live?
For me, be a tough decision between
QOTSA in 2001, Pixies, DFA1979 and maybe a few others.
therapy have never let me down, terrorvision always could get a crowd going....but...
thunder......however much anyone hates them, if you see them working a crowd it's just perfection.
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 21:00 never seen or even heard of thunder lol
I have to say that, just because it was unexpected, it was Beck about 10 years ago.
Oooh, let me think.
Tori Amos, Sheffield City Hall, some time in 1998.
Elvis Costello & the Attractions, Royal Albert Hall, 1995.
Ani DiFranco, some place in Glasgow, the name of which I've forgotten at the minute, 1999.
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 21:38 I have to say that, just because it was unexpected, it was Beck about 10 years ago.
unexpected? saw him at leeds at thought he was quite good! a nice change to be honest
unexpected? saw him at leeds at thought he was quite good! a nice change to be honest
I say this as his chosen genre (I thought at the time) wouldn't translate well live.
That is why it was unexpected. He was fantastic
the best person i have seen for a long while has to be rod stewart at the arena a true pro,see loads of bands all the time rem, stereophonics ect last year.the worst had to be BOB DYLAN WHAT A TOSSER LOL
London Elektricity have never failed to impress, Faithless gave me shivers and Scissor Sisters were great. Those are ones that stick in my mind way above any other live acts I have seen!
Mighty_Boosh 27-01-2006, 22:02 Tomahawk @ manchester uni 2002.
pete_fcs 27-01-2006, 22:10 a band from hull called "vicious circle" in 1986 at the hallamshire, west street.
Bellacboy 27-01-2006, 22:21 I saw Bill Cobham do a 'drumming workshop' at Womad a few years ago. Basically an hour long drum solo. 'twas amazing
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 22:26 Im adding Tom Vek...he was awesome in Sheffield!
Bloomdido 27-01-2006, 22:55 Melanie C at the Leadmill. She really looked like she was havin' fun.
Manic Street Preachers on various occasions in the early 1990s.
Tori Amos at the City Hall around the time that 'Little Earthquakes' came out - and Boo Hewerdine on the same bill.
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 23:52 Manic Street Preachers on various occasions in the early 1990s.

Manics! cool! always wanted to see them but sadly never got round to it!

Tori Amos at the City Hall around the time that 'Little Earthquakes' came out - and Boo Hewerdine on the same bill.
Indie band MARION at the Leadmill in October 1995 - beyond-brilliant gig - absolutely blew me away.
Followed by any and every MANICS gig I've ever been to. And if you've any idea of how big a Manics fan I am, you can imagine how AWESOME the Marion gig was
StarSparkle :)
RegularJohn 27-01-2006, 23:54 lol, like manics alot do we?
StarSparkle 28-01-2006, 00:00 lol, like manics alot do we?

RegularJohn 28-01-2006, 00:02 im like that with Queens of the Stone Age.....im a bit nerdy when it comes to them lol!
Boo Hewerdine
Great live, seen him many times, new album out this week.
Mine would be
The Thrills - Leadmill
Damian Rice - Octagon
Richard Hawley - Leadmill
The Jam - Top Rank
Thin Lizzy - City Hall
drolnhoj 28-01-2006, 08:32 Queen in the early 70's at the City Hall. Incredible performance before they became world mega stars.
Bruce Springsteen at Roundhay park was quite an experience mainly because of the location and the size of the crowd.
bensonhedges 28-01-2006, 09:22 Judas Priest and Iron Maiden when I was a 16 year old headbanger, Faithless,Kraftwerk and K-Klass (bass so loud it made your spine wobble) when i was a clubber and more recently Anastasia at the arena.
Those I wish I'd seen - The Beatles, T-Rex, the classic Deep Purple line-up and Led Zeppelin.
Iron Maiden...seen them many times and every performance is/was brilliant! :headbang:
koenigsinger 28-01-2006, 12:45 in no particular order......
1986, Sheffield City Hall, Big Country, unfashionable they may have been but a fantastic live band, breathtaking performance filled with fun, emotion and moments of total beauty.
1996, Sheffield City Hall, Manic Street Preachers, from the intro of an instrumental version of 'design for life' accompanied by images from the video, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and stayed stood for 2 hours, awesome band, awesome set.
1990, Biskuithalle, Bonn. Faith No More, a chance sight of a poster in a small german record store, a mad dash by train to Bonn, a taxi ride to an industrial estate on the outskirts, a jaw droppingly great performance from FNM, then an insane run, on foot, with no real sense of where we were, trying to reach Bonn Hauptbahnhof in 25 minutes or be stranded in bonn overnight, immense relief upon reaching the platform as the train pulled in....
1989, Nelson mandela Building, Sheffield, Faith No More, together with mates who followed various different bands, cameraderie, Mike Patton's flawless sheffield accent... "ayup! ahh daah gooin on?"
brilliant and underrated, influenced so many bands it isnt even funny.
1994, Barrowlands Ballroom, Glasgow, Big Country. In between Christmas and new year, a five hour drive each way, a 'haggis supper' and a pint in a pub festooned in green and white, with my brother quietly bricking himself cos under his zipped up jacket was a rangers shirt... big country all night, acoustic set first, then an amazing blast through all the crowd pleasers, and the dancefloor bouncing so much you could just ride it.
'I'm a bit into music, me :D '
StarSparkle 28-01-2006, 13:14 1996, Sheffield City Hall, Manic Street Preachers, from the intro of an instrumental version of 'design for life' accompanied by images from the video, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and stayed stood for 2 hours, awesome band, awesome set.

I wuz there!
If that gig made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, SharpSinger, honestly, I don't know what you'd have made of earlier Manics gigs, when Richey was still there.
MSP were simply not the same without Richey - they were a shadow of the band they were after he left. Yes, the City Hall gig was utterly brilliant, of course, but I remember actually saying as we left the building after the gig "It's just not the same without him". (Bear in mind, the Manic for me has always been Nicky Wire!)
The video of the 1991 version of "You Love Us" that was showing while they were playing the song live - the Manics in that video are the real Manics to me - that was when they were the best band the world has ever seen.
StarSparkle :)
Live performances? Hmm, could be Billy Connolly at the City Hall a few years back, it was just after the 9/11 atrocities in New York and he was still doing jokes about Afghanistan and terrorists... Very controversial and near to the bone, but that's Billy!
I also saw a Meatloaf tribute act done by a bloke called Steve from Barnsley at the City Hall back in November 1999, he had a supporting act of a woman who'd previously won Stars in their eyes on the telly doing Cher, who was almost better than the real Cher IMHO, Steve was also great as Meatloaf.
U2 seen them twice, 1986 at cardiff arms park and 1991 at sheff arena, both times they were amazing, Joan Armatrading at sheff city hall in about 1985, she was very good, I think the best one by far has too have been Bryan Adams (i know i sound sad) but he really is good live,
koenigsinger 28-01-2006, 15:24 I wuz there!

I guess I'll never know, but I'm sure I would have put a gig 'with richey' in my list. And it's the wire for me as well, he is a unique undividual.

deelightful3 28-01-2006, 18:01 Has to be bruce springsteen,he puts on a great show, fantastic atmosphere everytime ive been to see him.
Little_Alex 28-01-2006, 18:41 Got to say the Rolling Stones at Don Valley twice in 95 and 99. for OAP's they can't half still do it! With the smaller venue bands I think the Levellers take some beating also saw Kasabian last year who were pretty good. As a regular festival goer I've seen some great live bands and it is hard to favour one more than another.:)
Beetlebum 28-01-2006, 18:59 Tomahawk @ manchester uni 2002.
Saw them a couple of years ago in Nottingham, they were great as were support bands, melvins and another band that I can't remember name of.
Fave gig was probably leeds festival 2002 (prodigy, guns n roses, foo fighters).
Mighty_Boosh 28-01-2006, 19:03 Saw them a couple of years ago in Nottingham, they were great as were support bands, melvins and another band that I can't remember name of.
Fave gig was probably leeds festival 2002 (prodigy, guns n roses, foo fighters).
I too went to nottingham gig (other supprot band was Kadaa).
Also went to leeds fest, highlight for me were dillinger escape plan and janes addiction.
RegularJohn 28-01-2006, 19:03 Cant beat festivals.....just out of curiosity (know its a bit early) who is going to leeds this year? Pretty much confirmed are muse and strokes (not my cup of tea).
Mighty_Boosh 28-01-2006, 19:07 Not sure if they are for definate, but a friend says Pixies might be playing carling festivals this year.
Also Charlatans, Graham Coxon, Razorlight, Echo & The Bunnymen
RegularJohn 28-01-2006, 19:16 Pixies, Echo and the bunnymen, Razorlight(i think) and the Charlatans all played in 2005. Pixies were amazing!
Little_Alex 28-01-2006, 19:36 I'm hoping for the V fest this year again although i unfortunately missed it last year. Always a good line up there;)
NatalieSheff 28-01-2006, 19:46 Edwin Starr in the Dec b4 he died. Excellent! It was a work do (big company) and we were all screaming War huh! what is it good for?:D
Wedding Present at Manc Uni in about 1987
Pogues at Manc Apollo about the same time
Blind Mole Rat - about 100 times in Sheffield, Scotland, France, Germany and Poland 1993-94
NatalieSheff 28-01-2006, 20:03 ohoh! and her that sing "you are beautiful...." dance tune from ages ago. saw her in ibiza at some club somewhere? hiccup!:loopy:
Another good gig I saw donkeys years ago was The Salford Jets at Manchester University. Mainly because they featured a song that was about me and my flatmates. :)
Joe

Mike SWEEEEEEEEENEY!! Yay!
StarSparkle :)
Aphex Twin at the essential weekender Finsbury park 1998.
Amazing!
Stream Of Passion, last night at Oakwood center Rotherham :D freeking awesome... they did Ayreon songs too :D
also when I saw Iron Maiden a year ago or so, and also Meatloaf :)
emma2686 29-01-2006, 18:28 Not in any particular order (and i know theres a few but its so hard to choose):
The Foo Fighters
The Stills
Tom McRae
Queens of The Stone Age
Mark Lanegan
The Zutons
im sure theres others but cant think of them at the minute
RayOberstein 29-01-2006, 20:43 Saw Mansun at Leadmill around 96/97 with Travis supporting.
Also Dead Kennedy's at Nelson Mandela - like yer' granddad playing punkrock (they did rock though).:headbang:
Also saw Arthur Brown at the boardwalk which was an experience.
Nice to see Ian Brown play roses songs at Leadmill last year.
EdnaKrabappe 29-01-2006, 21:17 A day at the race Stereophonics' Donnington gig with Ash and Black crowes as support was fantastic and probably my favourite. A good all round day out drinking and sunning good company and then good music...
Paul Weller when he was between Style Council and being signed as a solo artist at the Octogan.
Beautiful South when i was on the guestlist and went backstage afterwards :D The first gig i ever went to which was The Housemartins at the Octogan. Little did i know that standing at the front aged 13 is not a good idea - lost my shoes and had to walk home one shoeless! Beautiful Southmartins at the Boardwalk with Hugh from Housemartins playing - and a chat afterwards!
Brand New Heavies at the Octogan. Simply Red when Mick did the Arena in the round style. Hue and Cry at the Octogan after seeing them before at the Leadmill blow their amp. I've been to some fantastic gigs in my opinion over the years...next one probably Richard Ashcroft although i fancy going to the Sam Brown one at the City hall... just got Charlatans tickets as well.
The Manics maniacs have made me laugh. My biggest regret is passing up a visit to Cardiff for the Millenium Gig as i might have to work the next day. As it was i didn't and will always regret having to say i spent it in a Mexican in Rotherham with my exes parents instead of with mates in Cardiff.
QOTSA in 2001
I saw them at the leadmill and they were awsome.
Some of my faves include Motorhead, Chimera, and radiohead. Also loads of artists i've seen at glasto, mainly Orbital, Basement Jaxx, Primal Scream and Morcheeba.
Joel
michael_v2 29-01-2006, 23:28 Melanie C at the Leadmill. She really looked like she was havin' fun.
I was at that gig. Still have the ticket. she did look like she was enjoying it. My mate especially liked the sex pistols cover where he had a good old mosh.
Do you think the rest of the spice girls were actually in the bac in the dj box. i thought i had seen posh at one bit.
michael_v2 29-01-2006, 23:37 i have seen many artists live, but out of them all, the one who put most effort in, and had a hugh stage presence was Mr Marvin Lee Aday .a.k.a.
Meat Loaf
I have also seen :-
bryan adams twice
spice girls once (that was enough  )
robbie williams twice (awesome at milton keynes bowl)
status quo seven times (i know, but they're still rockin all over the world)
darkness (the white tiger was the highlight)
def leppard twice (excellnt live)
tom jones (not bad for an old un)
meat loaf six times (see above)
and i'm ashamed to admit............ gary glitter.
(certainly didn't want to be in his gang)
RegularJohn 29-01-2006, 23:59 I saw them at the leadmill and they were awsome. Joel
Iv seen them 6 times since 2001...bit sad lol! They have been awesome everytime! Seen a fair few bands related to them too
Mark Lanegan
Mondo Generator
Nick Oliveri Acoustic
Auf Der Maur
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead
Distillers
Masters Of Reality
Still really want to the Desert Sessions live!
If I could re-live all the gigs I've been to I'd probably like to go back to March 1970 and see Pink Floyd at the City Hall.......
or maybe the Beach Boys at the Lincoln Festival in 1972....
or Bowie at the City Hall in '73
(memory overload)
guns n roses at leeds festival
slashs snakepit at corporation
terrorvision at octagon
therapy at leadmill
that's bout it for faves i think.
Another good gig I saw donkeys years ago was The Salford Jets at Manchester University.
Joe
Remember seeing them at Owens Park when I was living there in 80-81, thought they were rubbish, although I always enjoyed Sweeney's show on Piccadilly.
Prince twice, Manchester and Sheffield awesome live!
System of a Down very very loud and excellent
Julian Cope twice city hall and Leadmill
they all were great live
nearly forgot strollin bones at don valley and going to see the sparks in two weeks in manchester hope they are good live
Phanerothyme 30-01-2006, 17:40 The best Live Act I ever saw was the Legendary Kevin Ayers playing and singing with the astounding Wizards of Twiddly (members went on to The Coral I believe, as well as playing with SFA and Gorkys Zygotic Mynci). It was at the Lomax in 94 or 95, and a record of that tour was released shortly afterward. It's impossible to describe the atmosphere (apart from thick with blue smoke), but words like electric, unpredictable, fizzing, serene, and intimate wouldn't be out of place.
Or maybe Lords of the New Church at the Salisbury Arts centre in 88 (prior to Stiv Bator's death whenever that was).
Sleazy Goth Rock has never been Sleazier or Gothier.
Tough one, but I'd go for Kevin & the Wizards
littleidea 30-01-2006, 18:57 Hard to narrow it down but it's gotta be either,
Tool,
Flogging Molly,
Nine Inch Nails,
Mad Capsule Markets or
Therapy.
GabbleRatcht 30-01-2006, 20:02 New Model Army and The Icicle Works mid 80's
melthebell 30-01-2006, 20:33 best gigs were
orbital at glastonbury (errrm was it 92 or 94?) one of those two i forget now...the atmosphere was electric, everybody was on the same wavelength.
faithless.......seen em at glastonbury...........awesome live........the classic songs are changed beyond recognition and seem to last an eternity, very hard and funky......wikkid
hawkwind...........what can i say.........totally amazing..........indeed their sound could kill you.......Sonic Attack
the_rudeboy 31-01-2006, 00:31 The Specials at Top Rank
Fishbone at Nelson Mandela
Motorhead at City Hall
U2 at Roundhay
RHCP at Hyde Park
RegularJohn 31-01-2006, 00:53 i saw the RHCP in manchester, they were awesome! Had support from chicks on speed..eek and James Brown....who was awesome!
Who supported them at hyde park?
Eminem Was Wicked Specially Live
themagicwand 31-01-2006, 09:53 Dexy's Midnight Runners at the Top Rank in (I think) 1979 - just before "Geno" went to No. 1. Awesome performance.
themagicwand 31-01-2006, 09:54 The Specials at Top Rank
I was there! Dancing on stage with me arm around Neville! Great days!
mark1971 31-01-2006, 19:22 bruce springsteen @ bramall lane
bon jovi @ don valley
def leppard @ don valley
roxette @ sheffield arena x2
Who is the best live artist you have seen?
Difficult to answer; Although not a huge fan Coldplay are the only band I can think of that got the crowd going as much as they did when they headlined V in 2003. Normally headline bands are a huge let down but I doubt Coldplay have ever played a tighter set.
rainbow2411 04-02-2006, 00:56 Johnny Cash (1966) Manchester
Neville Brothers London
Bonnie Raitt Birmingham
Jackson Browne London
Eagles Sheffield
Steely Dan Birmingham
Neil Young London
Mickey Newbury York
All of them great great shows
RegularJohn 04-02-2006, 01:01 johnny cash..cool!
im gonna have to add Jimmy Eat World!
Mastodon, last year at Corp and this year at Rock City
Nine Inch Nails at Manchester Apollo last year
Mad Capsule Markets at Corp
Therapy? every time I see them, they're just awesome live!!
A Perfect Circle
Soooo looking forward to seeing Tool this year, playing Reading apparently!

Springsteen - Tunnel of Love Tour
Clash - London Calling Tour
Bob Marley and the Wailers at Finsbury Park
Plus a big shout for the Specials when they played the Rotherham Show just before they split:thumbsup:
The Smiths - Derby Assembly Rooms (Old Grey Whistle test on the road)
Arctic Monkeys - Leadmill
The Family Cat - Leadmill
StarSparkle 05-02-2006, 19:38 Springsteen - Tunnel of Love Tour
Clash - London Calling Tour
Um, I think you'll find the 'London Calling Tour' was actually called the '16 Tons' Tour..... ;)
In my opinion, the earlier 'Sort It Out' Tour was a much better live experience :)
StarSparkle
The tour to promote the London Calling album imo was their best.
I saw them in Sheffield on every visit the Clash made to Sheffield...with one notable exception..... the Black Swan gig.
By London Calling they were at the height of their powers, they were better musicians and they had a better sound system. The fact that Jones came on stage with a banadana to cover a bloody nose because he had fisty cuffs with Strummer just before they went on stage added to the edge of their performance.

Ahhhh, the Black Swan gig - now that's one gig I'd have LOVED to have been at.
I saw them about 4 times on the "16 Tons" Tour - and, of course, they were brilliant, that goes without saying, one of the greatest live bands of all time - but I really wasn't as impressed as with ealier gigs, on the "Sort It Out" and "On Parole" Tours. Yes, they were more professional, and more musically competent by then, but it's always the atmosphere and heart that count for me - and I prefer somewhat anarchic performances to polished professionalism any day. :)
I didn't quite manage the "Anarchy" Tour, though - or the "White Riot" Tour, sadly :( I bet they would've been gigs of a lifetime to see.....
StarSparkle
Ironically my Gran saw the Clash at the Black Swan - no not a post modern grey power woman - she worked behind the bar at the Swan for years!!
Read the 'Last Gang in Town' book? (updated version) Worth a getting a copy from library
Keep on rocking amigo:thumbsup:

noseyrosie 06-02-2006, 00:42 Muse, Nottingham Arena 2003. Wow.
No contest
Has to be JJ Burnel, Jet B,Dave G and Hugh C AKA "The Stranglers" @ Steelys sometime in 1978.For a seventeen yr old who had to change into his punk gear after he left the house the energy at that concert was amazing!! Plenty of wild pogoing(sorry, anyone under 30 may need help with this one) and gobbing.
What more could you want from a night out!! Oh, and the music was wicked!! Go buddy Go!!!
i've seen Dylan at the arena and although he doesn't really interact with the crowd i thought he was very good, he certainly had people on their feet.
thea gilmore (at the pheasant!) was excellent, intimate venue, very good live performer, and royksopp at the leadmill last year really got the crowd going. possibly the best so far though would be doves at the octagon a couple of years ago, they were really excellent live.
emma2686 11-02-2006, 12:00 i would just like to add to my original post - The Eagles of Death Metal at the Live Cafe in Manchester, the only word to describe them would be groovy!! I honestly only went because my boyfriend was raving about them although the album hadnt impressed me much, but i came out of there raving about them - definately a fantastic live band.
Have seen Faithless twice at Nottingham Arena....just amazing nights! Embrace in Leeds Millenium Square was pretty cool too - great atmosphere. Looking forward to Charlatans and Richard Ashcroft this year!
Seafood @ Fez Club (2002)
Maximo Park @ Leadmill (2005)
Soulwax @ Leadmill (2005)
One of those 3, loved em all for different reasons.
antisocial 18-02-2006, 22:46 Nine Inch Nails at Manchester on the hottest day ever last year
Nirvana the day that they appeared on Top Of the Pops doing Smells Like Teen Spirit
Placebo - any gig ever
Robbie when he did Angels at Glastonbury - bikers with tears in their eyes
NMA - generally
They Might Be Giants at the Foundary - amazing stuff
EDIT: What I meant was I saw them live in Sheffield the same night as they appeared on Top of the Pops
Hello I'm new... :)
Very hard question , many... Verve , Janes Addiction , The Orb , Prodigy and tomahawk ( mike patton ). Probably many more I might add a few.
Hope everyones having a nice night?

I'm good.
Did you get my email?
Come and play on the I'm bored section and post a few more times then you can send and receive pm's.
Nirvana the day that they appeared on Top Of the Pops doing Smells Like Teen Spirit
That wasn't an actual gig. The music was pre-recorded and Cobain had to sing the vocals live but he took the ****.
Doesn't count I'm afraid.
Haven't had time to read through whole thread.
But mine was Prince at the Arena a few years ago, he was amazing and he had a fantastic dancer (never seen anyone do what she could) who i do believe he has married since.
Tom Jones and Simply Red are next up.
Pub bands will have to be Treebeard in Sheffield, and Blues Brothersand Gypsy in Grimsby.
Thinking about it i may have already replied to this thread a long time ago.:D
Though i really do wish i had seen Queen live when Freddy was still alive.
RegularJohn 19-02-2006, 01:32 the nirvana smells like teen spirit was highly amusing though!
antisocial 19-02-2006, 15:52 Sorry didn't scan it to check for sense.....its meant to read that we saw them live the same night as they had appeared on Top of the Pops. I saw them at the Octagon. I'll go and edit it now....

Seriously
Ooo...I've only just found this thread.
This one has been mentioned earlier but Faith No More at the poly was fantastic, The Real Thing hadn't really taken off and so it wasn't full...one of the most "jumpy up and down" / physical gigs I've been to. Splendid. Saw RHCPs a few months later there as well. 89 was a very good year.
Hawkwind / Cardiacs at Trentham Garden in the latish 90s, stone cold sober and just brilliant, a wonderful mixture of styles from two of my favourite bands.
Hawkwind / Ozric Tentacles at Keele University, definitely not sober for this one...Hawkwind at their psychedilic best.
Ben Folds at the Leadmill, he did "Wheels of Steel" for crying out loud...he does his research that fella.
...as for the future, The Icicle Works at the Leadmill in a couple of weeks. Can't wait
Chipmunk 09-10-2006, 16:52 Jackson Five at The Fiesta

Seen him many times, across the world and have never ever been even remotely disappointed.
Top four would have to be.....
Green Day @ Mancester Arena
Dire straights @ Gateshead Stadium ( think i was only about 9 ) :hihi:
P.U.S.A @ leadmill just for Comady Value alone
Hinder @ Madalay Bay Casino ( Las Vegas ) Gets out his Devil Horns

carcrash 10-10-2006, 13:28 Spiritulized Chicago
Was that the one at the top of the tower?
I'd go with (top 5)
Queens of the Stone Age at leadmill 2001
Muse (supporting Live) at Leeds Town & Country early 2000 (no-one knew who they were and they blew the place away.
DJ Shadow at V99 Staffordshire. Incredible DJ, incredible mixer and scratcher.
Grandaddy at leadmill summer 2001.
Horace Andy at Sheffield Uni
seriessix 10-10-2006, 15:20 Was that the one at the top of the tower?
No it was at the Metro - the lighting was amazing.

Nice. Ladies and Gentlemen.... is one hell of an album.
Ever get to see Spaceman 3?
katharine 10-10-2006, 18:25 i have seen many artists live, but out of them all, the one who put most effort in, and had a hugh stage presence was Mr Marvin Lee Aday .a.k.a.
Meat Loaf
I have also seen :-
bryan adams twice
spice girls once (that was enough  )
robbie williams twice (awesome at milton keynes bowl)
status quo seven times (i know, but they're still rockin all over the world)
darkness (the white tiger was the highlight)
def leppard twice (excellnt live)

meat loaf six times (see above)
and i'm ashamed to admit............ gary glitter.
(certainly didn't want to be in his gang)

I did, I'm a big fan. Leadmill in 89 I think but my memory isn't what it used to be for some reason
My local has the full 20 minute version of cop shoot cop on the jukebox. There is nothing like the look of terror on peoples faces as it starts to kick in. A perfect WTF is this moment
I've seen Spiritulized on pretty much every tour they have done. I was a bit disapointed the last time I saw them. It didn't have the same feeling and Jason was either out of it or not interested.
shells2909 10-10-2006, 19:39 Manics at hallam fm arena bout 8 years ago!! superb!!!
Meatloaf, hallam fm arena couple of years ago.
Bryan Adams - went to london a couple of years ago and saw him play an acoustic gig at whitfield studios - amazin!!

I've seen them a good few times too - last time they ended with Lord Can You Hear Me, pretty amazing.
I think Lazer Guided Melodies is my favoute album.
carcrash 10-10-2006, 20:07 Lazer Guided Melodies in the best.
ReginaldD 10-10-2006, 23:14 Would have to be the Goo Goo Dolls gig in Leeds last month, the venue made it so much better as well with it been smaller a band I have loved for years and they surpassed my high expectations I had of them sooo good live. A closeish second would be Oasis in Manchester, they were crap at the Arena earlier this year compared to when we saw them at The City of Manchester Stadium, you could tell they were putting more effort into the songs and interacted with the crowd a lot in Manchester. In Manchester if it werent for people throwing empty beer cups with pee in it would have been great and we were waiting from 3 when the gates opend to about 8.30 for them to come on stage, the doves were on before them which was ok but they had about 5 supporting bands with most of them being crap, they were great when they came on stage though.. At the arena they were just going through the motions, which left me really disapointed with them.
Shadows - City Hall, May 2004
Everleys - Apollo Manchester, 2005
Joe Brown. Next appearing Llandudno October 31st along with daughter Sam.
pinkdolphin3 11-10-2006, 12:39 it's just got to be Walter Trout...absolutely out of this world on the guitar.playing the Boardwalk btw on 22nd October

Just a quickie for the Spiritualized fans.
I've been given an 12 CD box set (unopened), in "tablet" form, with the presciption form too.
I can't remember the title of it (it's in a corner at home, I'm at work), and the box it comes in is slightly tattered (just needs gluing together).
Is this worth something?

That was the worst gig I've been to
James at the doncaster dome some years ago.
brill venue, all standing with all the crowd joining in.
dragged a mate along who thought they were ok, he came out amazed and he'd seen some big rock bands like GnR live.
Michael Jackson in New York for the Jackson 5 reunion! Fantastic!
Also Morrissey @ Sheffield City Hall and Elton John @ Chester le Street (outdoor) were both superb!

Wow ... I remember clearly that night ... saw them maybe 4 times in 1995 before they self destructed ...
Anyone got the album ? This World and Body - (Rel. 17th February 1996)

Meat Loaf's coming back to the Arena next year as well, end of May... I WILL be going, even if I have to bribe someone to go with me if Dad's at a dog show or whatever.

Yeah, what a night that was! I've seen many stupendously brilliant gigs over the years, but that Marion gig at the Leadmill - absolutely blew me away!  I even tried to grab hold of Jaime's leg as he crowd-surfed which isn't like me at all, I was that into the show! :P
Such an amazing band - such incredible promise. But like so many of the greatest, the brilliance that gave the talent also gave the self-destructive tendencies that doomed them.... :(
Itosan - if you loved "This World and Body", seriously, do yourself a favour and get a copy of their second album "The Program". It's hard to find, but well worth it. I absolutely adore this album, it's an undiscovered classic, one of my very favourite albums ever. It was criminally ignored by the music press when it was released, but it is an inspired work. And produced by Johnny Marr, as well. I promise, you won't be disappointed by it!
Good Luck in Oz - hope you'll stay in touch with Sheffield Forum. We need people with your excellent taste in music around here!
StarSparkle :)
Not been to many but, from the small selection, Daniel Beddingfield. He was so energetic, I think comparable to Robbie on stage. (From what I've seen on TV of Robbie's concerts.) It was a great performance. It's so addictive that most people were on their feet dancing. It's only later that I found out he's got ADHD, which explains his high energy performances.
been to a few but my stand outs have to be the Boomtown Rats, Toyah , Kraftwerk, OMD all at the city hall,Kid Creole at the lyceum and Simple minds and Erasure at Manchester. And the winner is Erasure because they just went for it with the scenery, the costumes, the energy and the outstanding songs. Not been to an Erasure concert yet and been dissapointed.
Treatment 14-11-2006, 14:22 The White Stripes at Hammersmith last year.
dmnrpfct 15-11-2006, 13:19 Beautiful south at Hull - small venue fantastic atmosphere
dmnrpfct 15-11-2006, 13:20 Erasure they were good to
In no particular order...
Public Enemy
Gorilla Biscuits
Slayer
Orbital
Aphex Twin (94ish)

Pretty much as the title says, who rocked your world when you saw em live?
For me, be a tough decision between
QOTSA in 2001, Pixies, DFA1979 and maybe a few others.
I would love to see the Pixies live - they're awesome.
Seen lots - but Nelly was great!! Its gotta be Nelly ( as in the gorgeous, sexy man)
