I am interested in finding out about life in Stocksbridge 1925 - 1945, I am researching the family history of the Watkinson Family who lived on Bath terrace - ford lane formerley Honeymoon terrace. This was in the 1920' to 1950 ish. The Watkinson family are related to the Dyson Family as well as the Senior family (Sheffeild) by marriage. I am also interested in the umberella works in the mid 1930's.
Can’t tell you much, except that the umbrella factory must have been Samuel Fox’s. Its now under another name but they made the wire that the umbrella covering was spread over. I had an uncle who worked there.

You could take a tour of the steelworks. Well, you used to be able to - I'm guessing you still can...
I did it about 10 years ago and it was really interesting. Unfortunately I've got a really bad memory so I can't tell you anything I learnt. I seem to remember seeing a photo of the 'umbrella girls' outside Samuel Fox's and I remember it was hot and noisy and a bit scary but that's about it I'm afraid.
I believe the umbrella factory was started by James Haywood at The Eckland Bridge Works.
I'm a Watkinson... so any info i can help you on.. just ask..
not sure on being related to dyson or stocksbridge families though...
