Anyone driven between the Bramal Lane roundabout and the safeways roundabout (end of Eccy Rd) tonight? The traffic lights are out in the middle where London Rd crosses. So far i've driven each way about 6 times tonight on beer deliveries, most people are slowing down and letting other cars cross but i wouldn't be suprised if there was an accident there tonight. A taxi was nearly hit last time i was there.
Drive carefully boys and girls.

Someone told me that the council switch off the street lights in particular areas on a rota system. The reasoning is if they rotate the off area they'll save shed loads on there leccy bills. It was up at meadowhead a few weeks ago and I know that areas of ecclesfield had this regular when i lived over there. .

If that's true then it's an absolute outrage. Street lighting is essential for safety, both on and off the road, and the somewhat hefty rates of council tax should be able to cover proper lighting cover across the city all of the time.
Our lights are always on, 24/7 so i doubt what "Munky" says is true

The council pays a fixed amount per annum for street lighting based on the number of lights in the city regardless of whether or not they are working, hence the reason they never rush to reset one that is on all day.
Although the author means Traffic lights and not Streetlights. Yes, I noticed these particular lights were out Saturday morning but there was no traffic at that time, so no problem for me.
At the bottom end of Pitsmoor road the streetlights do seem to be out every couple of weeks. I've noticed this for a few months now.
