View Full Version : Has anyone had acupuncture ?
pattricia 25-01-2006, 21:30 Saw a great programme last night on T.V. about acupuncture.Ive always believed in it,because about 10 years ago I used to suffer from migraine. After three visits to an acupuncturist,Ive never had one since.Thought this might help people who are thinking of seeing one.:)
lizzmobile 25-01-2006, 21:34 Yes, Pattricia, I saw this. It was very interesting. That woman with the smoking treatment got me the most, along with the anaesthetic-free open heart surgery! Incredible.
I also have migraines now and then, and can usually pinpoint the cause but I might look into it further. They can be really incapacitating at times .Thanks for that!

Moon Maiden 26-01-2006, 08:08 my mum is currently having accupuncture to stop smoking. I spoke to her after her first session and she went from smoking forty a day to four...Still waiting for updates on the rest.
I had accupuncture for stress once. I don't know if it was the needle in me ear or the calm relaxing music or the herbal tea that made me feel chilled tho
pete_jim 26-01-2006, 08:14 I have accupuncture to help with high blood pressure. It was very successful in finally clearing eczma that I used to get on my hands when I was stressed. Also had accupuncture for pain in a bad back which was very good for pain relief, then move on to physio to strengthen the back. I'd recommend it.
fruit&nut 26-01-2006, 08:18 i had accupuncture all down my back after a car crash i was in,its been fine since:)
Can anyone recommend a good accupuncturist ?
My mother suffers from knee pains, but I imagine there's a lot of charlatan's out there pretending to be accupuncturists.

I have had it for a dodgy knee after an accident.
It was impressive and done via my doctors.
But they don't advise it if you have a thing about needles because the tension you create from your fear is not good.
Saw the programme too. I've had headaches for over 3 years and so far the doctors, chiropractors, physio's and osteopaths have not been able to shift it. It's time I tried acupuncture. Any more recommended practitioners in Sheffield ?
Yellowrose 26-01-2006, 21:02 Ive had acupuncture twice (that is, two courses). The first was by a physio on Abbeydale road for my shoulder, that was good. The second was by the Chinese Medicine Place in Meadowhall, for my back, and that was excellent. I had the cupping and massage afterwards as well. Very relaxing and therapeutic. Dont get talked into the herbs though, theyre vile, I couldnt take them.
Just reading this has made me want to go again ... not for any particular reason but you come away feeling really good.
I also have a TENS machine, which is also excellent for back and shoulder pain.

Yes, as the thread starter, I also went to George Chia on Wilkinson st,for migraine headaches years ago.Just dont have them now,not even ordinary headaches.Ive heard that Acupuncture is extremely good for any knee problem. My husband should have knee replacement done, but hes wary,as people he knows who have had it done, are worse with their knees than before the operation.Im trying to persuade him to try acupuncture, but hes a sceptic.I hear you can have it done at the pain relief clinic at the Hallamshire, but that there is a long waiting list.Has anyone had acupuncture there ?
I had acupuncture for a problem with my neck which had just been getting worse and worse until it became crippling. It still comes back sometimes, but it's not nearly as bad (touch wood) or as frequent.
My accupuncturist had been trained in China, and she told me that some accupunturists are charlatons who claim it can cure anything, where as it's main purpose is to help painful conditions of the bones, joints and muscles.

Hi Patricia,
My mother has the same problems with her knee's, and she is refusing for the same reasons. She has tried the Hallamshire hospital for her accupuncture in the past, but she didn't think they were any good.
I'll get her booked with one of the other recommendations given and let you know what she thinks.

Tartempion 30-01-2006, 09:56 I had BAD acupuncture once which was truly hideous. It was a sports injury specialist in Manchester who did it and I'm convinced he'd never done it before. He put three or four needles around my knee, one of which started vibrating madly before falling out. I felt incredibly dizzy and nauseous for about three hours afterwards and there was no improvement at all in my knee. Never went back there again!
Having said that, after this horrid experience I decided to try again a few years later - this time for irregular periods and period pain.I went to a Chinese Five Element acupuncturist and he worked wonders. Not cheap tho...Mind you it was in London where nothing is.
Can anyone recommend anybody else??
jibbs1977 13-02-2008, 18:45 I had a bad knee and tryed accupuncture at northern general, when the physio therapist went to put them in my knee, I forgot to tell her I have hyper sensative nervous system and as she put the needles in my nerves kicked of and I nearly kicked her in the head :hihi:. So guess what I didnt have it again and when my GP got the reason it had been cancled he just laughed.
I'm repeating myself. It's not senility, honest
I'm having it weekly at the moment. Initially, after I have had it done, I feel in a lot less pain, but as the week goes on, the pain returns .... I'll keep on having it for now in the hope that as time goes by the longer I will be without pain.
It blummin hurts though! Not when he puts the needles in, but when he turns them ...
miniminx 14-02-2008, 19:43 dr wang chesterfield rd s8 :D
try him he's excellent :clap::nod::wave:
alex3659 14-02-2008, 19:49 would acupuncture be any good for pins and needles ?.
I too recommend George Chia in Broomhall. I went to him after months of low back pain and months of physiotherapy and osteopathy. After 3 sessions the pain began to disappear. After 6 it had gone. In the 6 months after that I had 3 "top-up" sessions. This was 4 years ago and (touch wood) I've been fine since.
OH went to him for tennis elbow when the cortisone injections prescribed by the NHS didn't work. The effect was immediate. Mr Chia is on Wilkinson St - number is in the Yellow Pages or pm me. I can't tell you what a difference he's made to my life.
I am going to try acupuncture as I have a terrible nausea problem. It's ruining my life as I have it 24/7. I hope and pray it'll help.
sTaGeWaLkEr 09-04-2008, 11:29 I started acupuncture at a Private Clinic last week. I've only had one session so far, so it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
To be honest, I didn't find the needles too painful at all. If anything, I found the whole thing quite relaxing - though I had had a busy week, and if I'm given the opportunity to sit in a quiet, temperature controlled room and focus on nothing, then I'll be off to sleep in a jiffy. :)
where do you go saffy?
A place in Matlock called Matlock (surprise) Physiotherapy Centre ..

Hi!
I know a woman in Gleadless Town End. She is from Sweden and have had practiced in China at the end of a 3 years education. She is good. Her name is Ann-Louise Danielsson, (239 0022 to the clinic)

I know one in Gleadless Town End, at Sheffield Therapy Centre 239 0022. She is from Sweden and I think she is good! She is specially good with arthritis pain. Try her if you can!
Yes, my doctor was a trained accupuncturist (sorry I'm not so good at spelling). He gave it to me for free in my doctors sessions. I had IBS and was getting really bad nausea that was really disruptive of my life and I was really tired all the time.
He used to stick one needle in the end of my big toe and one in my wrist. It felt crazy, like really intense pins and needles all in one spot- being tapped in the nerve with a pin feels mental- but in a good way.
Afterwards I will full of beans and felt like I had a lot more energy. It made me quite hyper. My doctor said that was really normal and he showed me in a book about acupuncture that it gives you more energy. I wouldn't be able to afford to pay for it, but having it for free is awesome :)
tutmoses 08-02-2011, 19:29 Howdy, is this thread still active??? I use press needles for self-acupuncture, usually on my shoulder when I get an ache and they work really well... Anyone else tried them?
