Well I see Utd have paid around £1.5M for Ade Akinbiyi.

Although he is in form now, as a Palace fan I can tell you that once he loses a bit of confidence he couldn't hit a barn, let alone a barn door!

What do you think?

Very Bad

Very Bad Indeed

1.5m for a 32 yr old!! :loopy:

This is the first good season he's had in I dont know how long!

Still the 2nd top scored in this division and has a better goals to games ratio than ANY of our current strikers.

blades- its tough now- lets just get behind him and support the team!

Bad buy i reckon...
I heard it was £1.75m!

I think we should have upped our cameron jerome bid - thats an investment for the future!!!

If we go up this season, Akinbadbuy will be rendered useless

However, I hope he proves us all wrong!

Leicester fan here, I had to laugh when I saw you had paid £1.75m for the services of Mr Akinbadbuy. He is still renowned at Leicester as one of the worst players we have ever had, I believe he still holds the record for the worst strike conversion rate ever in one season in the Premiership so as someone has stated before if you do go up he will indeed be rendered useless. At this level he's probably not the worst player to have around, he works tirelessly and has shown he will score goals. Overall I'm sure you could have done a lot better but it seems Warnock has had an obsession with him for some time but the timing and his age indicate that he waited too long.

neil warnock, what in the bloody blazes have you ****** done, we'll get barely half of that back when we have to offload ade fakinbadbuyi just after christmas next year. 1.75 m, the whole of Burnley ain't worth that. i'll get mi boots out, jesus christ.

When I first heard about it this morning I was annoyed at the price but....

if he does score 10 before the end of the season and get us up then he's made us £35 million so it's not too bad.

I'm just annoyed we haven't put up the extra money for Jerome - I'd rather have him for the future than a guy who will probably get us up and then leave.

Short-term investment for long-term gain, if he helps get us up that is. What happens then? Lets wait and see.

Good for you blades now, but not a player I would rate as being a good buy for a club building for a future in the prem

For god sake can people just get behind Warnock!!!! im sure he knows what he is doing. I think we have paid alot for Ade but I don't nessesarily think it is a bad buy. He will put goals in for us and make sure we get promoted. how can that be a bad buy!!!!!!!!!!

If Ade reads forums like this Im sure he wouldn't want to come to the lane and then we deserve not to get promoted.

I can understand Warnock buying him,in that he his near the top of the goal scoring charts,it is not the player I do not like it's the price for a player at 32.When you look at the £1.75m price & you look at Marcus Bent £2m to go to Charlton it is a mockery of the transfer system in this country,ok Bent will be on better wages, but he is already a proven striker in the Premiere League. Will the amount paid be justified,we will have to wait until the end of the season.Until then I back the manager & the team.UP THE MIGHTY BLADES

Robbie Loving

I think u all might end up swallowing ur tongues!

Im saving these quotes from you guy's lol, cos when he knocks 10 plus goals in between now and the end of the campaign, I will be able to prove my point!

I don't think it's right to attack the player before he's even put his shirt on???

i hope i am proved wrong but i am certain that akinbiyi will not do anything more than we are already capable of, and the price is way too much

for the blades its a great buy - anything to waste their money.... look at his real record at the top end - ie at Leicester .... didn't the Sun label him the worse player in the league - now why was that?

to be fair, he is better than anything weds have to offer. and scored more than all your forwards combined this season

He's had ONE- yes ONE bad season and everyone labels him a flop!!! I don't get it?

Sometimes players just don't suit teams and he didn't suit leicester- just like hayles didn't suit us!

About two months since Utd bought Akinbiyi now. What is the verdict so far?

tosh13

We cannot blame Ade for the poor run,it is the tactics,Warnock playing him as a target man when he is clearly not.

£1.5m - £1.75m for a player;

- coming to the end of his career

- who has proved he can't cut it at Premiership level

- and this season aside, has never scored more than 10 goals a season in his career.

Though I hope he bangs a few in for the remainder of the season, and sincerely hope he proves me wrong next season.

Ade scored 19 for Bristol City 98-99 season
Wolves-16- 99-2000
Burnley-12 -2005-06
Although not prolific he has scored more than 10 in a season.
Look at Davies at Bolton,he has hardly scored abouve 10 throughout his career,he brings other things into his game. That's why Sam thinks so highly of him, there are not many strikers today who can hit 25- 30 a season any more.

YES .... always has been .... always will be ......

Ruined the season of just about every club he signs for .....

Only club he ever seems to score against is Sunderland .....

Many moons ago before many Forum members can remember Man City were up there fighting for the old first division championship. They signed a lad called Rodney Marsh who single handedly completely wrecked their championship hopes.

Sometimes the one who appears to be the right player at the right time turns out to be the wrong player at the wrong time but we shall have to wait and see.

tosh13
20-03-2006, 14:33
Yes crookesey I remember that,Man city were cruising until they signed Marsh I think Tony Booke was the manager at the time, could be wrong.Newcastle did the same with Asprrilla may have got the spelling wrong ,but I think we remember his gangly legs.I know Ade has not set the clubs alight that he has played for ,but look at Marlon Harewood he has had 1 good season & he is 27.Sometimes players just click with a certain team, but Ade has been at a lot of clubs & he alone cannot be held responsible for the break down in the team, the defence is crap & he is a striker, who scored a cracker against the owls.
