View Full Version : Electricity price increase
susa41981 25-01-2006, 12:13 Hi
I am currently with British Gas for electricity and we have one of those pre payment meters because it was installed when we first moved in.
Over the last month or so it seems to be eating electricity like theres no tomorow.
Phoned up British Gas other day and they said they had had a price increase back in October of about 15% which we are just starting to notice but is anyone else going through alot more than usual.
10.00 used to last us a good week and a half but now its not even lasting us a week and we've cut down on using electric.
cloudybay 25-01-2006, 12:28 The price of Gas and Electricity has risen by 30 odd percent over the last two years and further rises are highly likely. Pre payment meter's are over calibrated which means you pay more than if you had a normal quarterly bill, so you may wish to consider having it replaced. Check out Uswitch for the cheapest suppliers.
Breaking news massive increase in gas and electric price by british gas.

Its really getting out of hand now,god knows how those pensioners on fixed incomes will manage.
pk014b7161 30-07-2008, 14:10 what happened to all the gas we had ? dont tell me been sold off by our forward thinking goverment of the time
Greybeard 30-07-2008, 14:25 British Gas blamed "soaring wholesale energy prices", but added that standard tariff prices would not rise again in 2008.
So stand by for another price hike on the 1st. January 2009
pk014b7161 30-07-2008, 14:31 is there anyone else like me just getting totally ****** off with the way things are going concerning fuel /energy prices
jinnertomcat 30-07-2008, 14:53 Is it now time for a non-profit making or capped profit organisation to be introduced to the market. Whilst I appreciate the global price rises are pushing prices higher, allowing companies to make hundreds of millions of pounds profits from the sale of what are essentially necessities whilst the general public (particularly those on fixed / low incomes) struggles to balance their family budgets really does not sit very nicely with me.
AfeBakedSpud 30-07-2008, 14:58 This useless bloody government of ours sells gas to the Russians because we can't store it here, then we buy it back off them at an extrotionate price!
Nice one Labour.

Greybeard 31-07-2008, 19:47 In an interview on TV this morning the boss of Centrica claimed that in fact we in UK paid quite a bit less for our domestic fuel than many other European countries.
And I thought...yeah, right - pull the other one.
After a bit of looking around this evening I found this site
http://www.energy.eu/#prices
which does in fact confirm his claim.
It also shows we pay the top price for diesel, but not for petrol.
Prices are in Euros.

Strange... it hasnt stopped them announcing £1 BILLION of profit
Strange... it hasnt stopped them announcing £1 BILLION of profit
Yeh and for the first HALF year !!!
discodown 31-07-2008, 21:22 It also doesn't help that as a nation we can only hold 13 days of gas reserves which makes us very sensitive to price fluctuations
newvanandman 31-07-2008, 21:46 Yeh its down to the russians, martians, ethnics, mormons and everybody, what a load of crap.
Our goverment are ripping us off, with gas/elec fuel and food.things we cant avoid paying tax on.
Some of you lot will believe owt!!
Look at ALL their profits,ALL doubled,its a miracle,amen.
Check out this link http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity to see if you can save money. It recommends that you change to a capped rate tariff now before they all put their prices up which they invariably will do soon.
Don't let them make any more profit out of us!

Who runs this country then?Who sets the standards these companies must adere to?Who funds the goverment?
If its true the price high of gas is due to lowering stocks then who is responsible for doing nothing about it before it happened?
I knew 30 years ago gas/oil stocks would eventually run low,if i remember right we were told about this time. Now were all to believe it taken us all by suprise, and theres no plan of action been taken.yeh right, were being stuffed!
How come the price of fuel has gone down? I suspect because they have realised that they were over zealous in their theft/actions and this would cause this country to crumble to dust even faster than it already is and realised they needed to restrain their greed just a little.
We have been told the price of food has to go up due to shortages too,do we get that also from the North sea?Anyone know what the plan is on that,no,cos there isnt one,but if it was true surley there would be,wouldnt there???
