The year 1976 has been recognized as the best ever year according to a new report. This is probably mainly to do with the heatwave. What is your best year?

And cos I was born as well. :D

1976 was hot but 1975 was even hotter and that summer went on from April to October.
I think 76 gave the worse problems like the drought because that summer followed another hot summer which made 76 seem hotter.
Does anyone agree that 1975 was hotter than 1976.

I think 1978 was the best year... in fact I'd go as far as to say 30 March 1978 was the best date all together!:thumbsup:

and me...........in the summer.
Mum says it was so hot that for the last few weeks
of her pregnancy she had to live in the bath filled with cold water.

1976 was my very worst year, that is when my world fell apart:sadly, My best friend died:My Mother!

It wasn't just the great summer. It was a turning point. The lads and lasses who were at school in the sixties, saw their parents go through a cultural revolution and it happened to be 1976 when the change began to take effect.

The Sex Pistols, Abba ( Dancing Queen), chicken in a basket, scampi... the weather, the 2nd generation 'sod it' society started this year.

I spent the summer camping in Cornwall that year and came back burnt to a crisp. Mum put Nivea cream on me, which fried my skin. Oh yes, a memorable year for the weather. Now I keep out of the sun and enjoy air conditioning.

o yeah.. it was a great year... i remember it well!! it was the year when i left the heating on too hot in hell after the cold winter and it got so hot, i do apologise for the drought but what can i say.. i am evil!

I can remember the weather affecting the potato harvest, the result being that the price of potatoes went sky-high.

As I recall, the price of chips from the chippy almost doubled.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

no idea.. i was still living in hell at that time, so although i had control of the heat, the chips were our of my control!! was more than a decade before i came to live in sheffield and put on my heels!!

my fave year was probably inbetween 1991 and 1997, living in South Africa, probably the greatest place i ever been to and still miss it
