In the last week, I have seen all the 'live' TV games and the most enjoyable, by far, involved the smaller teams. I thought the Leeds v Wigan cup replay, Crystal Palace v Reading and West Ham v Fulham (pity about the Sheffield ref!) were highly entertaining. West Brom v Sunderland, agreed, dilutes this theory.

The Chelsea v Charlton game was good but I can't say the same about Man.U v Liverpool and Everton v Arsenal - far too attritional. The worse game by far, what a bore despite the BBC hype, Man U v Burton.

The feature which impressed me was the work ethic of Wigan and Reading. There may be flaws, here and there, but the tireless running and covering for colleagues was a joy to behold.

This Wigan 'work ethic' further evidenced in a tremendous game v Arsenal.
