I have just returned from the Hallamshire today, and the dietician has put me on a low fibre diet. It has amazed me. All the things I thought were bad for me Im told to have, and all the things I supposed were good for me I cant have.

White bread, cakes, white pasta and rice, chocolate, meat, refined cereals, no fruit apart from I or 2 glasses of smooth fruit juice a day, no veg apart from potatoes (no skin) well boiled carrots and white cauliflower.

I am not allowed anything wholegrain, no nuts nor seeds, no fruit...

I cant believe it. It is to settle my bowel down so I know why, but it is the reverse of everything we are told to eat usually. Im on it for 4 weeks, then I can start to add something back and see how I react to it.

I expected her to put me on the scales and say lose 2 stone and commit me to lettuce leaves and the like!

Anyone else done this regime?

It's more or less similar to the diet required before a colonoscopy; hospitals put people on this sort of diet after a colonectopy (ie colon or stomach [cant remember the technical name for this surgery]) because it is far more easily digestible. There are very much more restrictive diets as well.
