Hi, I noticed on the ice sheffield site they do a 6 week course for beginners. anyone got any experience of it? Ive never skated before, and thought it might pay to have lessons rather than going on a saturday and crashing into tons of people!!
ta :)

The lessons are a good way to start. The coaches are experienced skaters and will get you skating in no time at all. I don't know your age but Monday night is adults only, it is easier to make a fool of your self with other adults instead of a lot of 6 year olds who are all better than you. good luck.

I take my daughter on Sunday mornings and she really enjoys it.
There's a mixture of learners but is mainly younger kids, some teenagers and a few adults. I don't think it matters what age as you're all learning the same thing and everyone is concentrating too much on what they're doing to notice anyone else.
It's great fun to watch though ;)

skate over on Sunday morning and say hi, you've probably already seen me there wearing a New York Rangers hockey shirt.
I'm an (ahem) adult, and I did the course last summer. With my son, who was more like the average age (he was ten, lol). However, I enjoyed it. I could skate anyway, what I'd never tried before was some of the stuff they had us doing (don't even ask). It's a good laugh! Don't worry about doing it with kids, if you have to, they are cool too. It's a good way of expanding your experience.
Go fer it!

:o I'm still at the 'crawling across the ice on all fours' stage so wouldn't want to inflict that much embarassment on my daughter just yet. (not until she's a bit older )
What I meant was, that she does the lessons and I sit on the side and freeze my butt off, giving the occasional thumbs up. Hubby's turn to take her this week but I'll look out for you next time I go.
