From my experience these new fangled expensive gimick's benefit one person only, that is the service provider. *Twinkle* 06-05-2003, 07:43 PM I really like freeview to be honest, partly because I have always been dead set against sky and also because I feel that normal TV is boring!!! The problem with sky is that it has something that you'd like to watch on ALL the time, hence making you want to spend that extra half hour watching it, and slowly but surely turning you into a couch potato! The plus side with freeview for me, is that it has all the music channels I'd listen to personally, and enough other channels to interest me should I feel like spending the afternoon on the couch. Jon 26-05-2003, 02:21 AM Anyone else having problems playing Darts on Free 2 play on Freeview ? :? Jon 27-05-2003, 03:15 AM If you are thinking of buying a set top box for Freeview do not buy a Goodmans GBD2 Box because 1) You will get peeved when you experienced random switching offs, wound up when the box forgets the channels. 2) The box will get stuck in a certain places and you have to unplug it to make it work again 3) And you will get :x when you see the Now and Next listings around the wrong way 4) Did i mention the great line up of channels on freeview  lol shall i continue :? be warned RPG 27-05-2003, 02:41 PM Sky are releasing a FTA box this summer BTW... qazitory 15-01-2004, 08:16 PM Originally posted by Jon If you are thinking of buying a set top box for Freeview do not buy a Goodmans GBD2 Box because 1) You will get peeved when you experienced random switching offs, wound up when the box forgets the channels. 2) The box will get stuck in a certain places and you have to unplug it to make it work again 3) And you will get :x when you see the Now and Next listings around the wrong way 4) Did i mention the great line up of channels on freeview  lol shall i continue :? be warned mine freezes every few days as well and mine is a Nokia!! My friend's box has the same trouble, and his is a Goodmans. I dunno if its just a fault in Freeview? Although our Sky box freezes every few months as well. So not had much luck! chill 15-01-2004, 08:58 PM I bougt a Pace Twin Freeview box just before Christmas and am really happy with it. The advantages over analogue as I see it are... Widescreen TV. I get a better picture than I got with Analogue. Access to the fantastic BBC4, plus BBC3 and BBC News24. Access to Digital Radio stations. The advantages over Sky: You don't have to give Rupert Murdoch any of your money. With the exception of the crappy Freeview EPG and lack of dual record, the Pace Twin equals Sky+, and in some ways beats it. For example, the Pace Twin software is more stable, and doesn't randomly delete programmes. The Sky+ software appears to be written by gibbons with low self worth. Sky obviously has more channels and so unquestionably beats Freeview in that respect. This would annoy me, but I do naughty things with my internet connection meaning that I still get to watch pretty much everything I miss off Sky One. *Twinkle* 15-01-2004, 10:48 PM Our box freezes all the time. Sometimes it turns its self back to terrestrial without warning and also goes back to "first time installation" whenever it feels like it. Damn you box! Belle 15-01-2004, 11:05 PM I love Freeview And I get it for nothing, being a former viewer of ITVDigital and already having the kit I have to go now because I am off to watch the Alan Clarke Diaries on Channel BBC 4 xxx Skatiechik 16-01-2004, 09:52 AM Its a waste of time for me, as there is no reception for freeview where I live. Why Pay of a TV licence and only get 5 channels when you can get 20-30:D Ok so you have got to pay 80 quid for the box but it keeps me from going ga-ga on a Sunday when there is sod all on the 5 channels:loopy: Jon 04-02-2004, 02:39 AM  looks like the end of Freeview as we know it..they are talking about us paying for certain channels maybe Sky 1.The head of Freeview has resigned so its not looking good :( Jon 08-04-2005, 08:39 PM www.xtraview.co.uk Watch all Top up channels for a day for just £1, anyone taken up this offer? alchresearch 08-04-2005, 09:37 PM Originally posted by qazitory mine freezes every few days as well and mine is a Nokia!! My friend's box has the same trouble, and his is a Goodmans. I dunno if its just a fault in Freeview? Although our Sky box freezes every few months as well. So not had much luck! I think it's down to aerial and signal quality. I had a Nokia box downstairs and it locked frequently. I've moved it to our loft and it's only on an old indoor aerial and the picture quality is fantastic and it's never locked up. It might have something to do with the fact that the aerial in in visible site of our transmitter "Winter Hill" (our equivalent of Emley Moor). tara 08-04-2005, 10:24 PM We have a freeview box but can not yet recieve the bbc channels on it- only on analogue. All others are good and picture perfect but we only have a loft aeriel at moment so im hoping when we have a new digital roof aeriel that will solve the problem with the other channels. But i keep thinking it might not and it could be because of the area im in. Has anyone else this problem- north sheffield. spinny 08-04-2005, 11:36 PM i got freeview box in my daughters room,it good has i get to watch the programs on sky as she views the kids programs alone, got to admit not many channels on it and i wont have it for my self but it has enuff for my kid to view and be safe with in a way better then sky i know at least i know what she is viewing, algy 09-04-2005, 12:27 AM I think the BBC ads for all the extra channels are a con, since they all double up at different times of the day. I enjoy the extra ITV channels, and BBC4, but the lots of extra channels are mostly pop music and shopping channels, which are of no interest. silverknight 09-04-2005, 11:18 AM The Freeview digital tv service is broadcast on the following UHF channels. If you recieve Calendar South then you are on Sheffield Relay ....the numbers are MUX 1= 39 MUX 2 = 53 MUX A = 57 Mux B =60 MUX C = 45 MUX D = 42 If you get Calendar with no opt out news section your on Emley Moor then the channels are 52/40/43/46/50/49 .If you get calendar east then your on Belmont and your channels are 30/48/68/66/60/57. If you are on any other smaller Sheffield in fill relay then at present no digital service is available. Tara I am surprised you cannot get the BBC Digital Channels 1/2/3/4/cbeebies/cbbc/Parliament as these are broadcast on the stronger signal Multiplex 1 and Multiplex B and I receive all signals OK in Wadsley Bridge craigmason 09-04-2005, 12:50 PM i dont no what freeview is like because we cannot get it round here  tara 09-04-2005, 11:57 PM can get parliament and c beebies but cant get bbc1,2,3 can only half get bbc4 -gets blocked off with message across bottom of screen saying"due to technical difficulties the service you require is currently unavailable" weve had the set top a couple of months now and its always said this on bbc4. might try a signal booster or something , before new aeriel. A mate of ours who lives at highgreen has a loft aeriel and he gets all the channels. mind you im in stocksbridge , the land that time forgot lol. so it could be the area. Patchy 10-04-2005, 03:30 AM Its worth £35 for a Freeview box, just for the daily reruns of Quincy on ITV3. Shiesh 10-04-2005, 03:57 AM like it or not everyone will need a digi box by 2007 when anologue signals are 'turned off'!! craigmason 10-04-2005, 08:54 AM And what happens if in 2007 there is still no signal  what do you do then as i cannot see the signal getting better in the next three years silverknight 10-04-2005, 11:50 AM The signal strength will be increased when analogue closes down. This is why at present digital service is only on low power transmission and coverage does not always match existing analogue. silverknight 10-04-2005, 12:07 PM Just had a look at the BBC website and Stocksbridge has a small analogue relay transmitter to cover the lower valley areas. It could be that you that your digital box is just picking up part of the Emley Moor signal. Looking at the analogue channels these are BBC 1 =58 BBC 2=64 YTV =61 and C4 =54 for the Stocksbridge relay while Emley Moor is BBC 1 =44 BBC2 =51 YTV = 47 C4 = 41 and C5= 37 and the digital ones from Emley Moor are in the range 40 to 52. Hope this helps Tara mel8592 10-04-2005, 05:18 PM freeview is great especcially if you cant afford sky or to have it in all rooms in your house. i did try to have freeview in my bedroom but it could only pick up 3 channels although my auntie lives up the road and she can pick up all the channels. Sky is a winner for me tho adlinds 10-04-2005, 06:38 PM I had freeview before we got Sky and thought it was great value, especially as I got the box free as I had ITV Digital back in the day. I used to mainly watch the music channels and Sky Sports news. I also had a top up TV card which I thought was a bit of a rip off as the channels you got extra were only on for a few hours a day. This was especially annoying if you were watching a program that ran from 10.30 - 11.30 and at 11.00 the channel just went off. bigkev 10-04-2005, 09:00 PM someone on here paid 80 quid for a freeview box I only paid 20 quid for mine and it is brand new its not what you know its who you know. since we have had freeview I dont get the chance to watch it as my girlfriend and my son and daughter as always got the pop channel on I wouldnt mind but they play all the same songs after a while and the other thing is why do they play pop crap when they ought to play iron maiden, led zeppelin, motorhead, metallica, I think I have only ever heard one rock band on the music channel and that is the s**t group bon jovi. oh and my son who is 2 years old he gets to see cbbc channel is it a wonder that I spend most of my time sat playing my video games on my pc. freeview you can stick it since we have had it I have missed some good programs but when I say I want to watch say a film I get shot down in flames we are watching the pop channel so I dont say anything to them they are in for a shock in the next 2 weeks as I am having sky put in my computer room and it is only for me when I go out the door will be locked as it as got four locks on it they wont get in also I dont allow them in my computer room after 19:30 as it is my proper time to relax mind you all day is my time to relax, so freeview it is not for me.
