I had a similar problem, there is a thread somewhere.

Try clicking on devices under my computer and see if there are any problems reported, and tell us what they are.

you haven't muted the volume in sound playback have you?
Control panel/sound and audio devices/sound playback/volume.

Very obvious I know, but your speakers have power and they are still plugged in. This is not an insult ;)

windows key + pause, click hardware tab, then device manager button.

Check
1. There are no queston marks in the device list
2. There are no exclamation marks on any of the devices
3. There is a section called sound, video and game controllers and your soundcard device exists under it.

This is what is under sound video and game controllers
audio codecs
legacy audio drivers
legacy video capture drivers
media controll devices
unimodem half- duplex audio device
videio codecs

Hmm, none of those are the actual soundcard, so somewhere it has not been detected or installed. Seems kind of weird.

hmm

*thinks*

Have you tried running the 'add hardware' wizard in the control panel.

Might be worth a try:confused:

Can you try the card in another computer? It might have just died
