View Full Version : Man Utd vs Liverpool
Wasnt a bad game tonight.. took a while to get going and how many tackles from behind did Gerrard have to do to get a booking?
Evra looked good and very composed and Wes Brown did well.
We still need to sort this midfield out though as I still think Giggs is past it now and from the looks of it, Scholesy has got problems as well.
A word to my 'fellow' reds though - following on from a pub rant!
I remember, not long ago, when you lot were on Rio's back about him not signing the contract- you booed the lad to death for a couple of matches until he signed.. and yet you still doubted the lads loyalty and still give him gip up until tonight.
UNTIL tonights match however, UNTIL he got the winner.
NOW I hear, oh Rio is fantastic and he is our best defender and we hope he never leaves.
I want to say to you all- you are ****ing hypocrites and you can now get off his back- I have never doubted the lad at all, even when he was going through all the ****e he has had to endure since the contract fiasco and to see our fans now praising him to high heaven makes me laugh out loud.
You fans are still making yourselves look complete arseholes by one minute coming up with some ****e against the players and the next- praising them to high heaven.
Makes me sick- and you call me a 'glory fan' ??
Holy crap.
AtticusFinch 22-01-2006, 18:19 As a Liverpool fan I'm gutted. I don't think it was a fair result as United had very few chances, especially not in the first half. We defended well and had a few good chances.
The first 20 minutes of the second half we did well, but I'm slightly annoyed that after that we sat back and let the mancs back into the game. If we'd have kept that tempo up, we could easily have gone on to win. It seemed like Rafa was more content with a draw, whereas a win was what we needed.
It would have been a great chance to leapfrog them and gain points on Chelsea, so all in all it was a wasted opportunity. I don't feel that we played badly today though, and a draw would have been a much fairer result. I still think that we'll beat them into second place this season though, and I still think that we're a better team than they are. :)

I thought it was a good game overall, being a Man Utd fan :) however I would have liked to see us attacking a lot more as we did not really create any chances at all.
To say 'if we had kept the temp up, we could have easily gone on to win' I have to disagree with you.
After watching the first half I came to the conclussion that your team is basically not as good as ours and the only player that is keeping you going is Gerrard, and he wasnt all that today- Cisse and Crouch were non-existent as a strikeforce today as well.
I really dont think you are going to beat us to 2nd place- I will be quite surprised if you do, however good look for the rest of the season though :)
AND you are definitely NOT a better team than us.
AND you are definitely NOT a better team than us.
There's a difference between 'better' and 'jammy', but we'll let you dream ;)
Guderian 22-01-2006, 20:41 Just got back from Old Trafford.
Hello Angelus.
1) Rio has always been a great player. Never said he wasn't.
2) He is a turd as a person compared to Gary Neville and Wes.
There's a difference between 'better' and 'jammy', but we'll let you dream ;)
We are better than Liverpool, but at least you are better than Arsenal at the moment!! Yay! :)

Hey- what was the atmosphere like today?
The OT crowd sounded quiet today.. what was it like over there?
1. I never said you didnt :)
2. Bad Guderian! Rio is coming back into form and seems to give a crap now!
But Gary Neville and Wes have been brilliant for us, lets hope they keep it
up.
Guderian 22-01-2006, 22:15 Surprisingly quiet and subdued actually (until the goal obviously).
I think the crowd were a bit nervous about our midfield!
Agent Gypo 23-01-2006, 09:52 Man Utd better than Liverpool?
Liverpool are the better team, though Man Utd have some better individual players (Rooney, Ferdinand, Van Nistelrooy).
Man Utd were lucky to win, Liverpools poor finishing cost them dearly.
Only saw the highlights on MOTD2 last night but it looked like Liverpool through it away. What was Sisse thinking?? lol
On another note - I know Im biased (my dislike of that little rat Neville is beyong paralell - the most over rated player in English history IMO :) ) but the incident with the Liverpool fans was disgusting, he needs a lengthy ban and arresting for incitement to riot (IMHO again ;) )
Hope the FA and police come through for a change.....
Mat

Are you out of your bloody mind quite frankly?
Just because they won the CL last year- fair do's - does not make them a better team than us!
For a start after watching the first 45mins, we had more possession and we were perfoming well, and for the last 20-30 mins in the second half- we were the better attacking side giving them a lot of pressure.. and thats why we won.. making us the BETTER team on the day, and lo and behold - look where we are in the table, 2nd- where are liverpool? 3rd.
Even though they have 2 games in hand and will probably go slightly ahead of us in the points, we will eventually end up 2nd not Liverpool- count on that.
Cisse and Crouch are frankly **** poor as well- so I dont count on them being genuine title contenders.

I didnt watch MOD as I usually see biased towards other teams against us- they probably did make out that Liverpool were always on top through the match- which they definitely were not let me say :)
Cisse- lets get this point sorted as it seems it was missed from people who didnt watch the match.
The guy was OFFSIDE to begin with, he did cock up the shot, but thats because Van Der Sar had him covered to begin with- Cisse was under pressure and fluffed it- the main point being, it wouldnt have counted anyway people!!
The whole 'Neville' thing is starting to grate on me as well..
Just because its a Man Utd player- lets all jump on the 'press' bandwagon and have a go at us... load of ****e.
AND I remember a certain Robbie Fowler, goading the Man Utd fans in the recent derby however this was overlooked- what a surprise!
Just because its a Man Utd player- lets throw the book at him :(
Its very sad

Not sure you were watching the same game. Liverpool were superior in great swathes of it. Given home advantage Man U were just about equals but that's what happens... Burton Albion anyone?
Man Utd are in crisis and Liverpool are in the ascendancy as all people who know the game said at work today. The media got it spot on saying the league table is fibbing.
What's worrying for Mancs... or what should be worrying for Mancs who don't have the old rose tints on is the factual amount of debt Man U are in coupled with their decline and certainty to finish third with the collapse of profits announced.
To anyone with the slightest knowledge of the game Liverpool had the superior team on paper... unfortunately the meagre transfer funds allowed to Man U stretched to defenders... anyone can see the entire midfield is devoid of any talent and there isn't the cash to replace them.

I love posts like these :hihi:
I must have been watching another game then, because for the first half hour of the first half- Liverpool didnt have a decent shot on goal?
And the last 30 mins of the 2nd half we cranked up the pressure and got the goal we needed to sink 'The 5 Time Champions of Europe(tm)'
We won the game 1-0, remember that, the same as we beat 'Unbeatable (tm)' Chelski as well... funny how the supposed biggest teams in the land get a beating at our hands isnt it?
Some facts
We are NOT in crisis - lets get this straight.
We are however REBUILDING, and it will take time to sort it.
Liverpool will NEVER win the league again EVER!
Liverpool are NOT on the up- they will, as usual, cock it all up.
The media are pack of ****e- and are biased AGAINST us
We are in a lot of debt thats very true, however this does not stop us getting in new players when we need them- ie: the new defenders, and there is going to be a few changes in midfield as well in the summer.. keep watching this space.
Certain to finish third? Dont talk daft mate.
The profits- we are down £12m this year- which will be up again next season due to the added 7 or 8,000 seats being added to OT.. so the profits will be back up again.. again- watch this space.
We are still however- to quote Mr Gill - our chief exec -
'still the most profitable football club in the world'
To anyone with the slightest knowledge of the game
Dont get me started- just dont
Liverpool had the superior team on paper
Where was the paper from? Liverpool.. I think you misunderstand the concept of world class players and liverpool players.
Meagre Transfer funds allowed to stretch to defenders
£12/13m in January alone- thats not bad at all for us.. especially the 2 quality defenders we have signed.
Midfield is devoid of talent
One point I nearly agree with you on- O'Shea, Smith, Fletcher are cack to be fair and we will be getting- 1 if not 2 new central midfielders in the summer + we need a replacement for Giggsy and Scholes.
There isnt cash to replace them
This is the bit that makes me chuckle the most out of everything.
HOW do people know there is not cash available??
People are making a lot of assumptions when they dont know the full facts of the club.
Even the Man Utd fans have questioned the cash side of it.
How do you know Malcolm and the gang are not going to dip into the purse for a new midfield this summer? I beg to differ.
I think they will - they are businessmen.
They see a problem- they sort it out, profits go up, they are happy.
Its a win win for all of us, apart from the debt that is.
However I would be happy to see us spend another £50/60m in debt to see our midfield quality once again.

Without meaning to be pedantic, those aren't facts, they're opinions. The misuse of the word "fact" in everyday life is something that really grates on me.
Secondly, the "everyone hates us, including the media" viewpoint is irrational and unfounded. If you go onto any football team's messageboards (including Liverpool's) you'll get people just like yourself who moan that there's some kind of conspiracy against them. I've read Liverpool fans claiming that the media are a bunch of "manc lovers", or that they only care about London teams, especially Chelsea and Arsenal. I've read mancs such as yourself claim that the media are biased against them, probably inspired by the paranoid rants of your own manager. I've read Chelsea fans claiming that it is they who the media is against, and most bizarre of all was the Arsenal fan I saw on a Sky Sports talk show. After the Old Trafford "brawl" in Sept 2003 and the subsequent punishments he said (with a completely straight face),
"It's just yet another example of the FA conspiracy against us" :loopy:
Take a step back and think about this logically: Why would the media be biased against any one particular team? What could they stand to gain from such an approach?
To be fair i usually only take the opinions of fans who go to the matches.
Guderian 24-01-2006, 12:21 Only saw the highlights on MOTD2 last night but it looked like Liverpool through it away. What was Sisse thinking?? lol

Lengthy ban? Are you totally deranged? Its good to see some passion for a change.
Robbie Fowler (as Angelus says) did it the other week to us, and no one has called for him to be banned?
And Neville overated?
You obviously dont know much about football. He is a defender. He defends.
Well.
P.S Liverpool edged the game. But given United had O'Shea, Fletcher, Richardson and Giggs (in the middle for heavens sake!) then they on paper should have won.
But they didnt. Look at the "top teams" they have played recently.
They haven't.
They have Arsenal home and away to come, as well as Chelsea, and some other tricky ones. I believe they are in a false position, although they are improving.
P.S United - v Pool (home and away), Chelsea and Arsenal - no goals conceded.
Agent Gypo 24-01-2006, 13:53 Regardless of one particular posters ill-informed opinions, I still think that Liverpool will finish above Man Utd this year.
Overall, I think their squad is slightly better and they definitely are more effective as a team.
And the post about Liverpool having no world class players is a gem. You'd think some people have never seen Steven Gerrard play football. Ferguson would kill to have a player like that in midfield.
Liverpool threw the game away with two tactical mistakes.
Up until Benitez switched Gerrard back to the centre, and moved Sissoko to the right, Liverpool were dominating possession.
The fatal mistake however was to bring on KromKamp with less than 5 mins to go. The poor lad just didn't have time to get upto speed, first he lost his marker which led to the dubious free kick (how many times have we seen that happen at Old Trafford?) and then he lost Ferdinand in the box, which resulted in the goal.
The fact that United only got one corner in the game (as far as I can recollect) says it all. You just have to look at their midfield and you can see their inferiority! oh and just because peroxide blonde / lipstick wearing Alan Smith shaves his hair does not make him into Roy Keane's replacement.
Liverpool are nearly the finished article, just need to sort out the attack whilst Man Utd are definately on the decline and the longer Fergie stays there the longer it will take for their 'recovery' :)
(Again look at his big purchases over the last several years, and count the flops)
Guderian 24-01-2006, 14:35 All United need is a quality CM.
For example, United WITH Gerrard would be far better than Pool WITH Gerrard.
I realise he will never come to United, but if we can get a CM anywhere near as good as him, then we will def be the better side, although I believe we are anyway.
The news that Scholes is out for the season may just swing 2nd place in Liverpools favour though.
lol Guderian get real.
The united midfield is v poor. Fletcher ? O'Shea ? Smith ?
Your best midfielders are still Giggsy/Scholes and they're both near retirement.
So by the time you get this so called worldclass midfielder (and boy has fergy been trying with poor buys like Veron) you'll then need to find the remaining 3 as well.
The only thing in United's favour is Rooney and Van Nistleroy, their goals are what cover up the shortcomings in the rest of the team.
Z
Guderian 24-01-2006, 15:16 My point exactly.
Look at the midfield that beat your so called world beating midfield.
Ronaldo, Park/Giggs, Scholes, and any one (although Gill has indicated 2 will be brought in of Diarra (Lyon), Gattuso or Mascherano.
My point exactly.

Er your midfield didn't win you the game.
It was a mistake by Benitez to bring on a defender so late in the game that cost us the game.
We currently IMO have two of the best central midfielders in Europe in Gerrard/Alonso.
If you genuinely believe that the 4 liverpool midfielders wouldn't get into the ManU starting line up (Gerrard/Alonso/Kewill/Sissoko) vs (Smith/O'Shea/Fletcher/Giggs) then I'm afraid your loyalty of the club is seriously clouding your abilities to reason :)
Man U have had their 10 years at the top and I'm afraid you have a long time to go before you climb back up.
perhaps Roony will realise that he's on a sinking ship, he'd be most welcome at Anfield :)
We'll even give you Cisse if you want :)
Guderian 24-01-2006, 15:30 We are above you. Discuss.
You have to play Arsenal twice, Chelsea away etc.
Discuss.
at the moment......, but as someone mentioned earlier I bet you were in our shoes.
STILL in Europe, and 4 points behind with 2 games in hand :)
Guderian 24-01-2006, 15:36 I do not wish I was in your Scouse shoes.
Because someone would be ******* in my pocket on the Kop or even stealing said shoes.......
lol, fair point.
mancs aren't renouned for wearing shoes, what with them being barefooted cavemen :)
AtticusFinch 24-01-2006, 15:55 perhaps Roony will realise that he's on a sinking ship, he'd be most welcome at Anfield :)
No he wouldn't be. Rooney isn't just a bluenose. He isn't just a manc. He's a bluenose manc. He most certainly wouldn't be welcome at Anfield. Principles are principles. :)
Guderian 24-01-2006, 16:11 Anyway, he is too young to be taking a step down to a smaller club.

Well its nice to see a ManU fan being honest for a change, although Liverpool didnt egde the game, they were all over the scum for the majority of the game (although I did only see the highlights).
As for Neville showing 'Passion', you talk rubbish. It was a disgusting act of incitement - plain and simple. Its a shame he doesnt show any 'passion' when he pulls on an England shirt.
Hes crap mate, you know, I know it, we all know it. Just be honest.:loopy:
Guderian 24-01-2006, 16:56 Your use of the word scum highlights your bias.
Fool.
I suppose you know better than Terry Venables and Sven do you?
Both of whom had or have him in their side regularly.
And dont give me that "its because he plays for united" crap.
P.S I rolled around the stands in delight watching Gary Neville do that.
Lovely.

We all have our opinions and mine is that hes ****e. You think hes the best right back this countrys ever seen???
PS roll around laughing at Manu every time I see that boiled faced scottish gimp moaning about somert or the other - shame theyre out of europe - wouldve pmsl at another 'flight' to Munich.
PPS I take it you come from Manchester then.....?
Guderian 24-01-2006, 21:49 You provincial bore.
Yes, and yes. (Season ticket).
Zzzzzzzzzzzz
I'll take Venners and the most successful manager in English football historys opinion, thanks all the same.
And so will Neville when he looks back on his League, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup and World Club Championship medal/s.

You can communicate with Sir Alf Ramsey from the grave? I knew Mancs were a bit cuckoo but practising clearvoyancy.... :-)
Neville can only look back... to the last century. Winning the european cup in a weakened format in '99 was so last century, darling. ;)
His teammates wearing the 3 lions know what Neville is... a plonker to put it politely and Carragher "the people's player" hasn't exactly held back in showing how the rest of the England players view him. The **** he always has been and like his Man Utd teammates is reduced to living in the past.

Alf Ramsey? Are you serious?
You know what I meant.
Last century? What are you talking about?
League Champions 2001 and 2003 this century, as well as an FA Cup in 2004.
And weakened format? We were in a group with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and beat Inter, Juventus and Bayern in the final, not losing a game.
And as far the bit about Neville being "unpopular" amongst England players!
Like you are a regular as Bisham Abbey.
It was Neville who led the near strike by the players a couple of years ago.
This suggests he had their full support and respect.
