Ive got a PGCE interview for secondary school ICT on monday.

The interview I did related more to why I wanted to do it and what classroom experience I had rather than any IT stuff. The assumption is that you can do that having a degree in the damn stuff.

Best of luck and I look forward to meeting you in September.

What - cant you get a real IT job??

Everyone knows only the IT rejects go into teaching:hihi:

Dont worry - no need to go mad - when my wife comes on later and reads this (shes a teacher) she'll go mad enough for all of you!

Wow, I wouldn't dare to say that the many teachers I know (you tend do, being married to one!) don't work hard - and I certainly wouldn't swap my workload for theirs most of the time. :) Even during the summer I've known teachers work all day, every day... Mind you, maybe ICT teaching is different?

Can tell you've never stood in front of a class of 14 year old degenerates.... 0r marked 170 exam papers in 3 days for that matter....

I'd make a mental note to myself not to say that at your interview if I were you...

Where is the interview? At Hallam?

When I went for my interview, it was a group interview, there were about 20 of us arranged around 4 tables. We are given a number of tasks within these groups ... one of them was design a poster illustrating a current issue in education. Then there was some sort of written thing we did (cant remember what). After that, several tutors came in and sat with groups of 3 or 4 of us and we chatted, then had an individual chat. So it wasnt like a job interview at all.

The important thing was to say something and contribute to the discussion, work as a group on tasks (try and respect what others say even if its rubbish), also let them know you have had experience with kids and draw on this to illustrate your points.

This was in 1998 for a PGCE Early Years (I got on the course, so I must have done alright). I admit that it might have changed, but everyone I spoke to around the time had this sort of interview. My partner had one at Derby and it was similar - large group then individuals.

Good luck ! (Has anyone told you youre mad to go into teaching?? I bet they have ... and theyre right!).

Bloody hell. If you are not interested in hard work then think very carefully before embarking on a PGCE!

Well I would say "break a leg" but this might actually happen ...

On the morning of my interview I got a call from my lad's secondary school asking me to come up immediately. He had injured his arm and was in shock. He needed to go to A&E but I had just enough time to get ready, take him to his nans and drive to my interview. Fortunately my in laws took him to the Childrens and he had indeed broken his wrist. I was a bit shaken at the interview, but obviously it didnt make any difference.

I feel awful now, but I had wanted to get on the course so badly, and it was getting late in the year, so I had to leave him to it and go to the interview!

Here's the best advice you'll get spyro- use the words "reflective practisioner" as many times as you can. make it really clear that during your PGCE year you intend to learn from positive and negative situations in schools.......but reflective practionser is defintely the phrase in ITT

My PGCE interview was pretty similar, group discussions then individual interviews. I'm 100% certain you'll be asked about your previous experience with working with kids so make sure you are have a few accounts ready. I'm also certain that you won't be asked about policy and news stories and **** like that....the most important thing is your skill with dealing with kids.

good luck pal, obviously you'll be suited and shiney shoed

Yes, I hope it went well. Tell us all about it, and when will you know? Do they write or still send the results through the GTTR?

After all my preperation, it turned out that there had been a mistake and my interview isnt even until next month. No wonder I only had 3 days notice when I got the letter

Sorry to hear about that. Still, gives you more time to read the guardian for "issues in education"! to quote at your interview. (There used to be a specific day for education issues, but you could also try T.E.S. on Fridays).
