I am doing the duke of edinburgh award(bronze)
and i was wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas for "service" this is helping out the community or doing voluntery work for a couple of hours a week.

i have contacted the childrens hopsital and they are getting back to me in february but if i dont get to do that i need a second option something along the same lines though.

I did try RSPCA shelters and they no longer do voluntry work not the shelters near me anyway such as the city centre one.

Any help will be appreciated and there is a mate that will be joining me we are both 15 years old.
Thanks:)

my son's done all three, cant remember who he helped with the charity part but i know the silver etc consists of Mountain Climbing and all sorts.
I know they sometimes did midnight sponsered walks and things.
He's at work now but i'll ask him if hes any ideas when he comes home later.

For my bronze service I did a first aid course with St John's Ambulance. Get in touch, they will be more than helpful.

I did Bronze and Silver many moons ago (1970s to be precise) and did a First Aid course for Bronze and for Silver I did some work with the local Police and also helped build a children's playground.

I assume things are slightly different today!

Good Luck with it.

Northern general has a volunteering office, i think they find it harder to get voluteers than the childrens hospital. Hallamshire probably has one too. If you ring the hospital switchboard they should be able to put you through.

What about some voluntary work with people who have learning disabilities.... Gateway Society or Mencap are always appreciative and you will not believe what you will get out of it personally.

I did the 'bronze' section back in 2003.

IIRC, there were four sections.

I did:

Old folks' home in the area (community)
improving golf-playing (sport)
Did some work on Access for someone (voluntary)
Walking in Sussex and Surrey for the main parts (whatever that secotion was named)
