Having moved to Scarborough to retire, we think this is the best place on the east coast, more up market than Skeggy!! Does that make me a snob?

Mablethorpe rules! The most up to date Arcades on the East Coast, nice Beaches, it's the Torquay of Northern England.

I like Withernsea, it's so quiet... empty even.

Have to agree with you there. Have been there with the kids for the past two years and had a great time. Lovely clean beaches and not overly commercial either.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. For families with kids I think Mablethorpe is great. :D

The east coast is great all round.

Love Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby, and Scarborough is O.K, i spent a lot of my youth up here with mates and school.
Recently been up to Northumberland and that is all lovely too, East Anglia (though most of this is disappearing rapidly) and right down south, Deal and Kingston nr Dover are all great too, history and walking and sea.

Not yet made it to the east coast of Scotland always done the west up there. And do usually do Welsh coast too.

Mind u maybe i just love the coast, i was born in Grimsby and spent a lot of time at Meggies (Cleethorpes), but it is horrid where it is all commercial, you need to go up the other end where the dunes bit is. And Skeggy is somewhere that we just don't go to.

Scarborough is pure class ... but the rollercoasters at Skeggy (fantasy island) are just a bit better than the ones in Scarborough.

But then ... you don't get the waves on Marine Drive at Skeggy do you !?

I'd have to say Whitby, without a doubt!!

Whitby - off season - sat in the pub (Duke of York, I think, on the corner table in the window) with a nice cold pint, watching the boats come in to the harbour. Fantastic.

It's Scarborough for me, particularly the grand Victorian end of the town. Also, the Harbour Bar on the seafront is just class.

I've never really liked Whitby very much. Not sure why, because it's a picturesque setting and endearingly chaotic, but whenever I'm there, I just don't really like it as much as I feel I should!

Having said all this, if you want the best seaside town in the UK, it's got to be St Ives in Cornwall for me. But that's a whole different thread!

Whitby tops the list for me and although Scarbrough also has a decent beach I have a relative who has a B&B on the Quays and find the place is starting to go down hill a bit, I do say a bit and maybe the council should keep an eye out for that and keep Scarbrough as it was in the sixties.

The entire place appears to be going downhill, literally. It's all gonna end up in the sea soon.
Every time I go, the castle is a bit nearer to the edge of the cliff...

WTF?! Why would commenting on the Arcades in Mablethorpe be cause for worrying about me?

Gotta be Whitby. Great for all ages, top coastal roads for motorcycling:D and surprisingly good for stag night/weekend.:partyhat: 26 pubs last count (may have been 13 + double vision),:partyhat: and only 3 Aidensfield coppers to police it!
