View Full Version : £££ Winning the lottery £££
*Twinkle* 20-01-2006, 11:30 Decided to put the lottery on today... Not cos I'm short of cash or anything... Its just not something I've done in ages so I went for it. The Euro-Millions jackpot is like £80 million or something ridiculous like that and as I drove home with my shopping and lottery ticket I wondered what on earth my life would be like if I did win the jackpot?
What on earth would one do with 80 million quid? Would I give up university and caring and become a full time "it" girl? How long would I last before I got bored of the new lifestyle? Just how many holidays can I go on before I'll lose all interest in my desire to travel. Would the money/holidays/lifestyle mean anything to me without someone special to share it with?
I think its pretty clear that money doesnt rule my world... but a few grand would mean that I could go to Florida in the summer, which is my favourite place on earth... :P
Anyways, what would you spend it on? and could the money potentially ruin your life, like it would do mine?
i wud help all my family back in da congo an spend £60 million on helpin da local villages were i came from.
i wud pay for houses an doctors an skools innit.
Agent Orange 20-01-2006, 11:38 Would donate the majority of it to various charities and keep a small amount myself to live off.
id buy 80 million more tickets
GoGo_dancer 20-01-2006, 11:42 I'd make sure all my family and friends were comfortable and debt free. I'd spend a fair amount on luxury items but also give generously to charity.
I'd save the majority of it so that when the world ends, my future family can afford to go and live on the moon or some other habitable planet!!
Oh, and I'd pay First to have every single bus seat steam cleaned on a monthly basis so that the poor folk of Sheffield no longer have to suffer damp smelly seating covered in chewing gum (cause that's the kind of generous soul I am!!)
CherryNicole 20-01-2006, 11:42 I'd buy some cherries and some cherry items
EDIT: I would also pay various bands to do private gigs for me and my friends

Yeah, but I'd do it a bit more. I won't let the money change me! :D
GoGo_dancer 20-01-2006, 11:48 Oooh, just thought of something else, I'd create an empire of Chav/ASBO Kid Rehab Camps, where are fake Burberry and white sports socks would be banned and all the inmates, sorry, 'guests' were made to do community service and hard labour until they were deemed smart enough to be allowed back into society, where they would become shining examples to scummy youth all over the world.....
Getting a bit carried away here me thinks!!

An actual cherry that is big enough for me to get in and live?? :loopy:
In the words of a wise and beautiful man....
welcome to paradise
We've done a syndicate at work for the lottery tonight, think lucky
emperor_ming 20-01-2006, 12:08 Id keep every last shiny penny of it to myself..........

and swim in it like scrooge mcduck ;)
I've got my euro lotto tickets... if I won the jackpot I dunno what I'd do...
I think I'd firstly start by quitting my placement, I aint gonna work if I'm a millionare! although I'd have to give serious thought about quitting my degree... I'd need something to keep my occupied...
a world trip would definitly be in order, as well as a few houses and nice cars... I would definitly donate a considerable amount to various charitys and the hospice that my grandad stayed in when he was dying of cancer...
I think if I really did have such an insane amount of money I would try and use it for as much good and non-selfish things as I could, perhaps create a place in town for young muscians to get studio practise in and recording for free, or cheap... I know how hard it can be to find and organise places to jam when your young
perhaps I'd spend approx 40 million on good causes, the rest I'd invest in various things after I'd sorted myself a nice house and stuff
fridgeman 20-01-2006, 12:22 after hours of studying the previous euro draws i have found a formula, tried it last week and only got the two star numbers so i've tweaked it a bit, being the kind of guy that i am the numbers i've picked are 3,11,12,26,50 and the two stars 1,7
f f f fortune finding fridgeman
deelightful3 20-01-2006, 12:31 about 10 yrs ago we got 5 numbers, but hardly had anything since.
I've (rather sadly) got a spreadsheet that details what % various people get.
That way, i've made the decision in advance and don't have to make it when i've got 80 mill burning a whole in my back pocket.
With my leftovers, which I think would roughly 30 mill (SO gets half straightaway and 25% gets given to family and friends) I'd probably buy a few properties, a few (dozen) cars, maybe a yatcht and a small jet.
jack in work, do some travelling, jet setting and generally living the highlife for a while. Maybe taking along a few friends for the duration.
After that got dull, i might go back to uni on a part time basis to a phd or a masters, or maybe both.
Oh, and I'd build a new dojo and run classes for free, and maybe one of my properties would have it's dojo as well, and pools and a gym, all just for me (and SO).
I reckon I could burn through 10 mill with that. Which leaves 20 mill to be invested and provide an income for the rest of my life (and given that it's so much, an income for most of my family as well).
uncleheed 20-01-2006, 13:36 Stick it in the bank, and live off the £8,000 per day interest!!

i was thinking about this today...
i would probably put about 40 million of it in a bank and donate the interest to charites
i would probably select a few charities and donat once a month the interest. i think that way they would get more money in the long run!
the rest i would pay off all family and close friends(you know who you are!!!) debt and splash out on nice new home!
just thought how many combinations can u get from the national lottery there are numbers 1-49 so how many different numbers can u come up with. even if i have to pay 50,000 tickets i would still do it. come on guys help me out
*Twinkle* 20-01-2006, 14:38 Oh my god, £8,000 interest per day? Thats insane... :o
I hope that I never have to deal with that much money in my lifetime. I'd hate to become money-obsessed :loopy:

roughly 14 million.
If I won the 85 Mill, what would I do? Well for starters I'd pay Mum and Dad's mortgage off for them, and maybe buy myself a decent house, in Hillsborough or Walkley.
Next, I would give a sizeable donation to a charity called Thorne House services for Autism who support me in day to day activities.
Next I would buy Dad a large plot of land including several dog kennels, and a few Pedigree show quality flatcoated retriever dogs to live in the kennels, and then some nice looking young kennel maids to keep the dogs (and me ;) ) nice and clean and healthy...
Anything left from that, I'd just chuck it in the coffers down at Bradfield Road Yorkshire Bank and get proper minted on the interest.

if you earn that much interest/day, you need never think about money again, never mind be obsessed with it.

how did u work that out
I tried to work it out to check, but it seems that my maths isn't quite up to it anymore, so i googled it instead.
DaBouncer 20-01-2006, 15:43 First thing I'd buy would be a Family Mega Bucket from KFC and scoff the lot.
I'd take my entire immediate family and some select mates on a wickedy wicked holiday for a month all expenses first class paid.
And during that month I'd decide what to do with the rest.
Some wise investments and property would probably be on the cards.
I'd set up the fundraising company I always wanted to do which would raise money for charity. I would put a lot of money into that to get it off the ground and create something that would keep the charities it funded in regaular funding for a long long time.
I would give everyone who has posted on this thread £2m each, and I hope you will remember my generosity if any of you win ;)

I'd spend it all on diamonds, drink, drugs and loose men.
spyro2000 20-01-2006, 16:43 ***puts name down for share of the money***
*Twinkle* 20-01-2006, 16:52 Now now, don't go taking the mickey with my thread! :P :hihi:
My luck has been absolutely shocking of late... I've had german measles, I've got Pityriasis Rosea and I've just done my shoulder in this morning! I feel like a right whinge bag! :( They say it comes in threes.... :hihi:
Been daydreaming about what I'd spend the dosh on today, but decided I'd still wanna be who I am and value things the way I do, even if I was really really really rich :P
tinkabel 20-01-2006, 17:16 I haven't read all of this thread but to be honest if all my numbers came up i'd probably die of a heart attack!! If i didn't then i'd definately need a new sofa as i think i'd lose control of my bodily functions lol!
On a serious note, i'd buy a house nearer to my family, have a bit in the bank, put some in an account for my son's future and then i would give a lot to the charities i support. I definately wouldn't be flash and i'd still shop in the same places, no designer stuff for me as i couldn't justify spending thousands on clothes!!
SpeedwayDan 20-01-2006, 19:24 after making sure everybody who i care about is comfortable, i'd go and enjoy myself for a bit, doing all the things i've ever wanted to do.
then i'd have to find something to occupy me, so i'd probably start a couple of record labels
I'd pack in work and do exactly WHAT I wanted to do, exactly WHEN I wanted to.
My wife and kids would share in this experience.
Everyone else? Sod 'em!!
MissGobby 21-01-2006, 09:55 I would give alot of it to different charities, i would also give all my family a new house each, car, and enough money to live off, i would take all my friends and family on holiday somewhere like Maritius, would obviously buy myself a gorgeous car, (Audi TT) and would buy part of Sheffield Wednesday :P lol
Squashie28 21-01-2006, 10:28 If I won the lottery I would make my first purchase a new home for me, my partner and son, I would enjoy the ritual of decorating it up and revel in the fact that I am financially secure.
My next purchase would be spent on a trip to Australia and New Zealand as it is my dream to visit and explore those countries.
When I come back home I would buy some horses and dogs, invest in more properties, buy my partner a nice car and anything else he wants, treat my son and also send my son to a top private school, buy my inlaws a fantastic gift, pay off any debts then have another baby.
My needs are really basic, Im not into designer labels, celeb status or the limelight so I would attempt to have *anonimity (*spelling error sorry).
I think Id make a good millionaire, fingers crossed I get to find out what its like to be one.
Good Luck to you all
Jo
Nobody won last night, so the Jackpot is £100,000,000 next week

Phoooooooooooooooking hell.
Isn't £100m classed as a BILLION or is that just in America?
Either way that's a LOT of bloody cash man.
Roll on next friday, think I'll play the Euro millions again next week... just in case.
jaynie38 21-01-2006, 13:53 WE WON!!!!!! On the Euromillions last night, we won £7.30!!! Not bad for a £9 stake - oh well, at least it will pay towards next weeks tickets, We should all agree here and now, that if any forum member wins the 100,000.000, they must give each forum member £1000 - All agreed???
Anyway, I will promise to do that for you all :) :) :) :)
i laready know exactly what i would do, i won but did not claim, you may recall a case from doncaster that was me.

if we win 100k, you want us to give 1k to 12k people. I'm no maths phd, but I can see a flaw in your plan.

I think that's just in America mate, afaik a Billion is a Million Millions.
The jackpot wasn't won? Oh well that is my chance down the drain - we did it at work.
I can think of a few things I would do with that much money, but most of all, I wouldn't say a thing at work. I would just wait till they came out with something even more gormless than usual and then politely inform them where to insert their job before donning my coat and walking out.
Seriously though, I would buy a nice house with a bit of garden, a car to get me about, chuck the job and teach parchment craft full time. I would also make sure my family also have whatever it is they want - house etc and probably do the decent thing and fund something suitably charitable.
