Does this mean more relocations to Sheffield?
More demand on the housing stock?
More Civil servants in Sheffield, is this a good thing or bad?
Any of you civil servants who post on here heard anything?

You know, if the civil service ever gets it's hiring policy sorted out, then I reckon that it wouldn't be too bad. I applied for a job there about 12 months ago now and recieved one phone call in the meantime (i also has an interview 4 months later, which went stunningly well) and they promised to tell me if i hadn't got the job.
With 20,000 more jobs in this areas, and Sheffield getting a little properity cannot be a bad thing, i hope these people applying for these positions aren't in for too long a wait, you can't hang around for a job forever.
I hear the pension on a civil service job is pretty good though.
I'm all for it. In the end, more jobs means better quality of life the Sheffield general public.

They wont be applying for possitions... there jobs will already be relocated here.
It's the department for Health which is moving it's offices to Sheffield and Leeds which is causing the relocation.
I'm happy in two fold for this to happen because:
A) My house price will go up
B) More vacancies will come up as people leave in time... giving more choice
Jobs a good un all round IMHO

I think its good news as probably the bulk of the jobs from Whitehall would come to Sheffield as it's already estblished itself as good place to locate government offices due to the amount of government offices already located here i.e. DWP and Home Office. If these posts do come to Sheffield then, as DB says, it would have really positive effect on the economy here in the city and that can only be a good thing. Also, the government will be saving a huge amount of money by moving these posts out of London and as long as the money saved is put to good use i.e. schools or hospitals then I'm all for it.
It'll probably be good for the local economy but If thousands of civil servants are being moved here do'es it mean even more traffic in the morning/evening rush hour?

Depends where they base these civil servants. If these posts are going to be in city centre then I guess they will have to look further into improving public transport links, but there ain't nothing stopping these posts being moved to newly built offices on the outskirts of the city centre.
