Is there anywhere I can take my lappy to get looked at? Who do you recommend?

I can only use the laptop when its plugged into the mains. cant run in without it being plugged in (which kind of defeats the whole object of having a laptop).

Sounds like your battery could be dead or it could be your charging unit on your motherboard.

You could try taking it in to Maplins and tell them whats happening and they may have the type of battery you require and may let you test it before buying (that might be just wishful thinking tho!)

What's the make and model?

Sounds to me like its just a totally dead battery thats the problem, that or the ability to charge. as you are probably aware laptop batteries get gradually worse charge-wise as the years go on, until eventually they go to the big battery heaven in the sky:thumbsup:

open the battery casing and see if you could change the batteries (rechargeable batteries).U could do this for certain laptop batteries ,(souce:google search).

As i said in the previous post i would take a good guess that its just a dead battery, if you took it along to your local pc shop then they would confirm this free of charge i would think. it may be worth seeking one out on ebay or somewhere similar, as according to the hi grade site its £95 for a new one.

Ill go take it down to a local PC shop if I get the chance. cheers.

If the laptop is a little old, it would be cheaper to buy a new one off ebay than getting yours fixed... Think £50 + for a battery, if you can get one... ebay again may help.
