View Full Version : Describe the City in Three Words

I'm relatively new to this Forum and I thought I'd start off a new topic. I decided that I needed something thought-provoking, sensationalist and profound, but instead I opted for this rather pathetic idea instead.

As a student living away in Southampton, I get little homesick from time to time. So I'd like you lot to sum up Steel City in no more than three words in an attempt to conjour up some memories of home for me.

My mind is fiercely blank at the mo, so I'll post my magic three words when I've had a gander at yours.

You'll never leave!

Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Sheffield will always feel like home to me. Just one look at the Tinsley Viaduct towers and i know that nowhere else has the same character.

Then again, it is severly lacking in a lot of stuff (not just our shameful excuses for football teams).

Well both the people and fans are passionate and friendly(forgetting the fact in a way their the same, obviosly!).Parts of the city like United (every 10 games) are classy, both strive to get better, neither has much money, both old, both share historical moments, both have grass....i mean the list is endless, mind you, some would say im speaking a load of Sheffield Wed***day i.e...well i'll leave that to your imagination!

Interesting. I have a pair of college lecturers that banter with each other about Barnsley being the 'Centre of the Universe'. One of them is from Barnsley (townie) and the other is from Sheffield (dee-dar). The Sheffield guy told us yesterday that he can believe that Barnsley is the centre of the universe cos if England ever needed an enema, Barnsley is where you'd put it.

I should've looked at your 'location' there. Oops!

The only reason I'm living in Norton is cos I'm back with the folks while I'm career re-training. I'm sure if I could afford rent though I'd end up in one of the nastier areas. :( Although saying that, sometimes I think I'd prefer it when I've got my mother on one of her 'rants'.

Don't you just love parents! :(

Anyway...back to topic. Soz people.

Well, I started this topic, so I suppose I should come up with three words of my own.

How about....

Or:
