ive not been able to get any credit cards etc, so i sent for my report from experian and all the things on there say zero so i owe no money (which i thought was right) but for some reason i cannot get any credit, ive now been told by a friend it could be the house which is a council one and when we first moved in there were debt collectors etc i told them that person doesnt live there, but nearly 2 yrs on and still cant get any, how would i check if the house was black listed or what ever it is????
thanks in advance
I had this problem many years ago, It turn's out not having any credit before also 'lowers the score'. I was advised to get a credit card from capital one for a year use it wisely and try again.
After this I found I could cancell my capital one card and get one from a high street bank with a much better rate of intrest.
Have never had any problems applying for things since..

mine must be that bad that capital one want 200 quid up front first before they will give me one, yet if i apply using my mums address they will give me 2000k thats why i think it has something to do with the house
Are you registered to vote at the address you're using to apply for the credit card? Some (many?, most?) lenders won't look at you if you're not on the electoral roll.

im registered at my current address yes but not at my mum;s which is y i couldnt understant y they would even accept me there
just a little tip!!
dont take the credit!!! lol.. no seriously..
if you apply for anything it brings your credit rating down, everything that has a search on you leaves a footprint yon your file so the more you apply for the less likely you will be to get it.
it takes up to 6 months from when you have a search for your rating to recover so best to try leave it for a while and try again.

My brother went for a pc some time ago and was refused but he couldnt understand as he had never had anything on credit before. Anyway the reason being was exactly that!!!! He hadnt had anything on credit before, so the credit company whom he applied to refused as he hadnt got any credit history and therefore knew nothing about how he was at paying back.
 bit confusing, but there you go!!!
