Hi,

Can someone help me please.

We have some family coming to stay with us soon, and that includes two juniors.
I was hoping to back up some DVD's from my collection as last time they were here they did their worst.

Only problem is I have no idea where to start.
My PC has a DVD-ROM drive and a DVD writer drive.

Can anyone help me and tell me what I will need to do or software to get.
I have seen a few items on ebay for software to do this and it says it will be easy for IT dummies.

Any help with this will be most appreciated.

Thanks Alot

Backing up DVDs even for personal use is still a grey area legally... Most of the newer ones can't be copied anyway due to copyright protection technology used on them.

Thanks for your reply. I thought you were ok to do it for personal use as you have bought singular rights ??

Anyway, i may be wrong.

I understand there is copyright protection on most DVD's, the item on ebay says that the software will bypass this...

As i said before, i have no idea what to do with this so just looking for a bit of advice.

Thanks

Technically the uk has no "fair rights" backup law (although there was supposed to be some EU law happening??), so in theory you're not even allowed to make mp3s of your own cds! But I very much doubt anyone has ever been prosecuted...

There's plenty of software for backing up dvds (I assume you mean movies). Don't pay for any on ebay whatever you do, there's loads of excellent free stuff. Not sure what forum policy is on discussing topics like this which could be used for wrong-doing (even though you won't be), so I won't mention any, but it wouldn't be hard to find.
