Is this the same course you posted last July and didn't respond to, judging by the subsequent posts from myself and others?

I'm all for people learning new skills and am in no way casting aspersions on your course but, I am little concerned that people are being misled into thinking that after 4 days they are a plasterer/tiler who is fit to take on paying work.

The appalling state of some of the work I have had to put right by these so called tradesmen is beyond belief. it does not take a genius to work out that 4 days training cannot replace 2 or three years on job training or college training.

The recent increase in the number of people advertising their services in the local press worries me in that, to my knowledge, you do not have to prove you are a bona fide tradesman to advertise. In my opinion this perpetuates the publics perception of the building trade as a bunch of cowboy chancers.
The local paper should and could ensure that advertisers are at least bona fide tradesmen, this would be quite easy to do by asking for details of their business bank account, copies of their self employed status etc. They do have a responsibilty to their readers. Its no good them having an Action Desk column to deal with cowboys if they allow cowboys to advertise.

Rant Over.

I have to agree with FYTC. My boyfriend has his own plastering company and had to work bloody hard to learn his trade and is fully qualified as he went to college. It is impossible to pick up plastering in 4 days!
Everyone in the building trade laughs at these courses as you cant possibly learn what is needed in that space of time. Its a waste of money, dont do it!

1. wrong place to rant, the chaps just advertising his course. start a new thread

2. you're getting work out of it so why are you complaining?

3. People shouldn't be fooled by cowboys (although elderly could be taken advantage of, admit this is a problem and people who do it need shooting)
