GothicCharm 16-01-2006, 20:30 That's why I quit my catering course. Was on the verge of throwing hot liquids on my chef's bald head.
melthebell 16-01-2006, 20:36 LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

If a catering course was too much I doubt the Armed Forces is a good idea! :D
melthebell 16-01-2006, 20:39 if its just the uniform that "does it"
either buy some gear from an army surplus store.......do they still have those?
or get off with an army / raf person

Haha yeah but you can't fly them in the cadets. Plus I'm afraid of heights.

Scared of authority,
Cute uniform,
Boyfriend in cadets,
Afraid of heights,
Marines are evil.
A nutter (my long range diagnosis)
Definate officer material,go for it and when you go to a real base the regulars will have a great laugh at your expense.
Jimbob1989 17-01-2006, 14:46 I have a friend who is pretty highly ranked in the RAF cadets, absolutely crazy and they trust him with firearms too :loopy: If you after something new to do, the RAF cadets is a pretty good answer. Ooo and the RAF cadets are allowed to use the largest firearms. If you are serious and join though, I'd expect a little hard work and some of the guys might take the ****, but your not really scared of that much, so you should be ok.

Why can't he sort you out, or talk to someone who can.

Cause I have friends there but never get a straight answer about it.

^^ I think that is the UK site, did a little searching in google. If there is anything else you want to know, give me a shout if you want and I'll find out. Hope you find what your looking for.
I shouldnt think you'd have any problems signing up, can look after yourself :P should think you should take some of the guys if they started anything ;)
I was an air cadet back in the 80's. There is a little hard work which involves keeping your uniform clean and smart, drill, such as marching and even a good deal of classroom type activities.
The end justifies the means though as if you show some effort you are rewarded with trips to RAF stations where you can go shooting, flying and gliding. Summer camps are the best time where you actually live on an RAF base for a week and take part in RAF life. You can even do the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. There will be a bit of shouting and discipline but it is worth going through this. You will also benefit socially with like minded people around you. If you like sport there is plenty of that also.
Go for it!
I was an air cadet even earlier than that! Got to do some flying and had a good nosey round some air force bases.
And, so many years alter, I even ended up playing with helicopters for a living!
jediwarrior 17-01-2006, 19:55 i was in air cadets for 5 yrs and really enjoyed it met new people and learnt new things so if i was u i`d give it ago mate u never know u may enjoy it like i did
RAF isn't all about flying - more of them are ground staff than those who fly. But if you're really interested, according to my old dad (who was in it) the RAF are much more respectful of the lower ranks than other parts of the forces. From what he says, there seems to have been quite a lot of answering back to officers too... I think his most abiding memory though was the food, as he says he put a stone on in one month.
A lot of the jobs do require a lot of brain power, and sometimes, depending where you go, they can be extremely selective about who they take on, sometimes even snooty. But he reckoned you were never fed up, every day at work was something interesting and worthwhile, and he managed to get up the ranks quite quickly.
squeakyclean 17-01-2006, 20:30 My daughter is in the air cadets and she loves it. She has flown a few times inc a flight in a plant that was refuelling a fighter jet mid air!
She has been on great summer camps and made new friends plus gained experience in weapons handling, although she may be ground staff as her eyesight is not good enough to make a pilot.
367squadron 17-01-2006, 22:57 I was in the air cadets for 2 years with 367 (South Sheff) sqn based in Hillsborough as you can see from my name lol. At first I found it to be a very good organisation. I loved keeping my uniform clean and ironed. I was rewarded with shooting and flying lessons which wass great but after a while the officers got really lazy and said the forms were too much to fill in when we wanted to do something (health and safety i think). This got really annoying and going there every weds and friday got a bit too much beause all we seemed to do was get bossed about and to clean the whole sqd which wasn't what i paid my subs for. Anyway i learned a lot from the organisation and had some very rewarding experiences like winning the region drill competition etc and would definetly reccommend it to other people wanting to join depending on whether or not it has changed!
Agent Orange 18-01-2006, 08:11 I was in the air cadets for a few years. I was based at 218 squadron out at Rotherham. Really enjoyed it and it gave me something constructive to do with my teenage life. How else would I have spent it - probably hanging around bus stops drinking cheap cider lol. I would recommend joining the cadets to anyone who's thinking about it. The only regret I have is that I didn't follow it through to the RAF :(
2wentypence 18-01-2006, 08:25 I was in 366 squadron Air Cadets at King Ecgbert School, Dore. Enjoyed it a lot, went flying, shooting, went on camps to air bases including two in Germany, you do lots of team sports, meet boys AND girls. Yes theres some crap like lessons on how to iron uniform and polish shoes, but your with your mates and its not like school. If you want to go into RAF its a huge advantage to go to cadets especially for the more competitive posts such as pilot / navigatior.
Go along with a mate for an evening n see how it goes.
