I am on day 3 of no more smoking and I'm finding it really hard. Has anyone else managed to give up? Please tell me it gets easier!

My fiancee found it easier using patches.

Are you using them or just going cold turkey?

Congratulations Keep going!

Just think of all that tax/money you are no longer paying. You could try saving all the money up you would have spent, then treats yourself to something special. Maybe an incentive to keep you going.

Congratulations. I gave up 6 years ago and for the first 6 months I really found it hard to deal with, but I assure you it did get easier as time passed. I haven't touched a cig since and I feel great for it.

Cold Turkey.

I looked at patches but I wasn't prepared to pay more for patches than I would for ciggies! :D Anyway you still need willpower.

I'm ok most of the time but there are other times when I could murder someone just for a tiny little puff of a ciggie. I'm also having trouble sleeping or should I say staying asleep. I keep on waking up all the time, it's really annoying.

Anyway I'm increasing my gym use 10 fold to try and keep the fat at bay. I've already started eating like a pig!

Only down side to quiting is the need to replace the habit with something else. I too couldn't stop eating when I quit, but unlike you I wasn't a member of a gym and ended up putting 4 and half stone on for my troubles. It's good that you are thinking positively and realise that will power alone can only keep you off the dreaded tobacco. Keep it up, matey!!

I have not smoked fags or anything else for about 1 month... The first week was the hardest, after that it's not so bad, just keep busy, find things to do!! I have found sleeping still a problem, dreaming far to much for my liking! Also the occasional wanting a fag for no good reason. Avoid stress, don't spend time with people that annoy you, drink lots of water.. I am still waiting to notice any benefits, I would find it easier if I felt different but don't think I do. I only ever smoked mild loose tobacco so perhaps nasty real fags with tonnes of chemicals added are a bit different. I also seem to be drinking faster, thus spending more time ******! I hope that will settle down!! Stick with it, you know it makes sense. Personally I have not used any patched or gum etc, I got some normal gum instead of nicotine gum as I don't personally see the advantage of keeping nicotine in your system... just prolongs the torment..
Keep it up and spend the money you save on nice things you want...
:D

I stopped smoking 9 years ago, when the Mrs decided we needed sprogs. I gave up the dread weed without the need for patches, hypnotism or a Chinese dude sticking pins in my ears. The incentive of a smoke free home for my children was enough to get me off the B&H and since that day I have neither needed or wanted to smoke.

Good for you.
And if you haven't noticed any improvement yet, you soon will.
I stopped for a year once, and was about the fittest I've ever been. And my sense of taste got much better. An my mum stopped bitching at me...
But watch it, after a period of high stress a year later, I was back on the fags again.

Well I'm on day 5 and feeling ok.

I can't go to the pub though because I know for a fact I will end up smoking. Perhaps in a few more weeks I will be strong enough :D sounds awful doesn' it?!!

I can't say I'm feeling any better yet, I haven't started coughing up any "gunk" yet.

I don't feel very irratible really, well only a little bit.

I have realised that the nicotine is now out of my system so the only thing that will make me want a cig is my mental state. I do believe I am strong enough to do this and I will keep you all updated!

stick with it... after food is often harsh, and still random cravings... just have to remember that it's not still in your system so the cravings don't make any sense!!!
your doing well.... get a squash ball or something to play with when in the pub, keeps your hands busy!
