Danny Wilson is expected to name an unchanged starting XI to the one that beat Brentford on Saturday after calling it a "well organised performance".

Chris Porter is now available for selection again having recovered from a dead leg however is expected to be on the bench this evening after strikers Jordan Slew and Richard Cresswell bagged on a piece at ther weekend. Ryan Flynn is expected to again sit this game out due to an hamstring strain however sources at Bramall Lane indicate he has made good progress in his rehabilitation therefore should be back for selection very soon.

United welcome Walsall to Bramall Lane for the first time since 2003, we played them twice in that particular season beating them 2-0 both in the F.A Cup and in the league.

Selected Odds: Blades 8/13, Draw 14/5, Walsall 9/2.

Not predicting this season but Good luck to the Blades tonight.

Wont be going tonight - not going until September but I will be listening to them and having everything crossed.

Great start for us so far long may it continue!

Can only see one result and Bramall Lane tonight and thats a home win. Will be more than happy for them to get that as long as Wednesday win (expecting more like a point though).

Enjoy the game.

Looks like being 9 points out of 9 for you guys, notice how your price is now shortening on you to win now, monster price at the weekend against Brentford 11/10 :o:o:o:o

might not be as easy as some think this one.ex owls Dean smith took over when the saddlers were odds on for the drop and turned them into a battling outfit that doesnt lie down.Thier a no frills bunch, but very capable of overturning the odds.
Id expect a home win, confidence will be brimming in the home camp after 2 solid results, but its easy to be complacent playing a club like walsall

Theres no easy games Stan as you lot reminded us all last season... Long, long way to go this season and we cant get complacent like you said...
Would expect a home win and will settle for a scrappy 1-0 win as long as we get maximum points but seems like DW has em playing some decent possesion football

Negative on the first 50mins yes....you show me a single positive in those 50mins.

It was a awful... how many goal attempts did they have 8 ? 9 ? a better forward line would have killed us.. it may be negative, but true and factual.

I agree first half we didn't do much what so ever and we were nothing short of poor, worst in a decade???.......definately not....I can name 10 games equally as bad and and at least 5 worse last season.

Second half, came out very complacent and were slow off the mark which Walsall punished us for...and I don't want to take too much away from them because they came to Bramall Lane with a game plan and brought the game to us, deserved to be two nil up at that point..........

Changing moment was were the introductions of new blood, Williamson was immense and from the moment he stepped on the pitch I don't know why but as a team performances all round were raised 100% and we did nothing but cause Walsall problems, attacking left, right and centre.......LB you went home and missed the best part of the match, I agree with you that we were poor prior to this but from second half we ran them ragged and could have belted 6 or more past them.

Overall Lessons learnt and I'm not going to say we were fortunate because allthough we did little first half, second half we battered them for 30% of it and deserved the points for the effort and commitment shown during this spell.

Negative on the first 50mins yes....you show me a single positive in those 50mins.

It was a awful... how many goal attempts did they have 8 ? 9 ? a better forward line would have killed us.. it may be negative, but true and factual.
.
Factual and true 3wins 3games . You haven't mentioned that once and on other threads you have put us down so yes you are negative

I respect your views, all i would add to your reasoned comments, is we could have been several goals down in the first half so easy.Maybe 3 or 4 by 50mins.

But if you had stayed long enough we could have easily been up 4 or 5 - swings and roundabouts.

SO LB You mr need to get over this Wilson thingamajig :P

I think a couple of points I have learnt tonight are that first and foremost we need to take Montgomery and Simonsen out of Sheffield United and allow them to move on to new clubs.

Call Monty a grafter all you want however upon winning the ball, he has nothing to offer going forward and welcomes opposition pressure, in my honest opinion we don't need him any more at Sheffield United....Thank you Monty, great servant, but time to move on!

Simonsen has to be one of the worst keepers I have seen at United, I don't know he's simply aged and lost his agility however he's a liability. One cracking save tonight however 4-5 countable mistakes that could have quite easily cost us the game, add these to his countless mistakes last season and he's simply not good enough. Matt Duke is waiting in the wings for a shot.....draught him in he can't be any worse than Simonsen.

"I dont want him to fail as that would mean United would fail, BUT With this squad any number of managers should be capeable of taking this club up, Mc cabes appointment was/is shocking, Wilsons record and his links with the dark side mean i will never take to him. Am a blade, season ticket holder and remain so for life, long beyond his reign. Someone asked today what would happen if the Blades went behind in a game and would they have the character to fight back.
That question has been answered because it was a fantastic fightback by the Blades and Walsall couldn't do anything with them.
Walsall did come close hitting the post but that was about it.

Our Scamp knows him football, scary knowledge of United over the last god knows how many years obviously because he was brought up well :hihi: Every time I forget past scores or scorers or signings I usually use him as my first point of call but he has a really bad habit of thinking every player can suddenly come good at United which we all know isn't the case.

Great result, looked a million miles away when they were 2 up and threatening to grab a shedload of goals, but fortunately Mr Wilson took off the ineffective Mendez-Laing and put on Williamson, and the team visibly lifted, particularly after the first goal. Walsall must've been dead on their feet after putting so much effort into the first half, when they dominated for all but the last 5-10 minutes, and but for some wayward shooting could've been ahead.

United were also quite fortunate to keep Matt Lowton on after a very late and dangerous looking tackle that he got booked for right in front of us - most around us expected a straight red, and it was noticeable how Walsall targeted Lowton, knowing he couldn't risk another big challenge... The ref did all he could to even it up after though, with a string of dubious decisions going Walsall's way. No change there then... :)

As for Simmo... it looked a major goalkeeper error on the first, though it may have hit a divot on the way and deceived him... after that though his confidence was shot, and repeated his party piece of falling over in a crowd at a corner for their second goal. He did make a great save to keep it at 0-0 in the first half though, and after one ****-up at (I think) 0-2, he managed to block what looked a certain goal... but the defence has absolutely no faith at all in him, and when we were cruising at 3-2, he managed to make another blunder which gave Walsall some encouragement, after having been battered by the blades as soon as Ladybirds left the building :hihi:

So overall, outplayed for most of the first half, and digging themselves into a big hole in the second, but the fighting spirit they showed against a dangerous Walsall side to snatch the win was great to see, and shows that perhaps we might have stumbled on the right manager at the right time... and for those blades that care more about United than any petty stuff about being associated with our neighbours in the past, it was just what we wanted to see.

Just 41 points to safety, UTB :D

WOW ..what a night !!! . Went through just about every emotion imaginable during that game ..from abject despair to utter, utter elation .

Best player on the pitch for the first 45 minutes was Jon Macken....and okay , second half started a little crazy and we were...to put it mildly..a little stunned to be 2 goals down .....BUT.... 16,000 fans (minus LB ) became very vocal ... ( even the South Stand woke up )....and roused the team from the depths.
We WERE the twelfth man and the players acknowledged and appreciated it . Fantastic effort lads ...and superb support my fellow Bladesmen ..my ears are still ringing !!!God luv Ya ...this happy little bunny will sleep well now !!!

Wilson should ban players going on twitter, argueing with fans is no good and fans slagging the player can only make things worse.

I think every player should be banned from using any social network site to talk about football. It doesn't matter what any of them say, it will come back and haunt them.

Be interesting for other comments, i stand by my views the first 50min was awful,

I agree to an extent, we seem to be slack at times and making silly mistakes which we would have been punished for last season but we're playing lesser teams with lesser players so have got away with it up to now. The first 50 mins were awful, i've seen some tripe so I can't say it was the worst but it wasn't great. The other 40 mins flitted between the sublime (Williamson's goal) and the ridiculous (Simmo flapping). We've got a long way to go and we can't afford to give teams a two goal start on too many occasions!

You know what, i respect your opinion but i think it would be better for both you and the blades if you don't even bother going this season.

Your the most negative, anti-united poster on here and that includes some of the wednesday fans!

Home before the final whistle and you live in greasborough? did you even see the goals? Pathetic.

Yes it wasn't perfect and they did have chances but EVERY TEAM DOES, even swansea did against man city on monday but i doubt you hear there fans saying that mancini is crap and that they should sack him.

The main thing is how we responded to going behind and we utterly dominated them and scored 3 goals to win the match, we are joint top with a 100% record- what more do you want?

16.000 @ Bramall Lane tonight ???

It's what I expect to be our average this year if I am honest. Certainly no more than 17,000 average

Never been more serious in my life:| that first 50mins was the worst for decades,!

Oh behave LB, there has been much worse performances that last season, never mind the last decade.
You're letting your hatred of Wilson blinker your views.

.am not bothered we won 3-2 again the result papered over the cracks, cracks i have seen in all three matches !!

I really don't think it is, it is well documented we were poor.
But we won, credit where credit is due.
The league we're in, teams will be wasteful.... we need to take advantage of that and we have.

I think a couple of points I have learnt tonight are that first and foremost we need to take Montgomery .

The only reason I'd get rid of Monty is because of his wages.
Had it not been for him, we would have lost last night - he was the only one performing in the first 55 minutes.

Anyway.... now I'm sober.
Awful for around 65 minutes of the game in total. We woke up around 56 minutes. The catalyst was Willo, an assist, a cracking goal and won the penalty - we've said it for every game this season that he needs to be starting.
For 20 minutes, we look absolutely cracking and Walsall just did not know what was happening.
They will go home wondering how they managed to throw that lead away, but they did and we have got 3 points we (overall) didn't deserve.....

Slew, Quinn, Creswell, Lowton all came to life once Willow was on and they all looked threatening and did a lot of running and we somehow got back into the game.

Bring on Yeovil....
Yes it has been answered. Last season heads would have gone down etc but he made the changes and fair play to him it worked.

One thing i did notice last night was the workrate of a certain Mr Stephen Quinn, the first half especially he must have had more touches than any other player and was finding space with ease.

I have to give the Blades a massive pat on the back. Spoke to a couple of mates late last night who had been and they said United for most part were dire, but...i wish Wednesday would have half of that fighting spirit.
Grinding out results in this division is a must and that's exactly what you've done, i would rather you have lost all 3 games but, as a fair minded supporter i can't deny that 3 wins out of 3 is a great start! Well done!

Your rose tinted glass" may suggest all is well at the lane, well its not! i have seen many failings in the 3 matches so far( i have been to all 3).

A 100% record is great , but we have to be realistic, Walsall could have slaughtered us last night. Negative or realistic?

Yes i did see the Walsall goals and their 8 goal attempts before that, our first chance came on 40 mins!! those first 55 mins were awful and seem to have been swept under the carpet ! we could have been four down by half time but for poor finishing. Thats not being negative its factual.

I also saw Oldham with 3 goal scoring chances after we went 2-0 up! Brentford could have been 2 up before we scored on Saturday.. facts why cover them up? we have had the rub of the green so far...Charlton would have walked over us last night, Huddersfield and Notts countys strikers too.

We're a recently relegated team playing a new style of football with new faces in new positions surely your not deluded enough to see that these things are going to take time to knit 100%.

You've taken plenty of time to point out or negatives / cracks / flaws and that "we're not good enough" in your opinion, however as of yet you haven't really raised any positives showing that your opinion is somewhat clouded as your either looking for negatives or simply want us to fail.

I'm happy to take 1 valid point away from your posts however mate and that is that no we're not good enough (should this be aimed at for promotion). However we've shown the commitment and ability in the first 3 games of the season to win all of those, and we all know that part of the makings of a promotion winning team is one who can pick up 3 points when they are far from the perfect / finished article.

If you would have asked me a couple of month ago how I would have felt should United be sat second in the league having won all of their 3 opening games despite being far from perfect I would have grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Things are heading in the right direction......New players brought in to cure our weaknesses and existing players switched to more natural positions eg cresswell.....Overall we have game plans and a style of play which is the first time you can evidently see this in 2 seasons. Things can and will improve and I will take every positive out of it along the way as a blade, I'm not deluded enough to think we are perfect LB, however I'm not deluded enough to think United we're last night the worse they have been in a decade, or that we are destined to fail simply because our new manager happens to have connections with Sheffield Wednesday in his past.

A New United, A New System & Style Of Play, A new Team.........these things take time, we're lucky enough to have shown enough and put enough in to bag an early 9 points WHICH WE DESERVED AND EARNED, the work carries on behind the scenes....

I OPENLY STATED LAST NIGHT , I DO NOT LIKE NOR WANT WILSON HERE, BUT........

I OPENLY ALSO STATED, I DID NOT WANT HIM TO FAIL AS THAT WOULD MEAN UNITED WOULD FAIL.

My post also stressed i felt many a manager, could do a job with this club/squad and find success.

In previous posts i have posted positives, e .g Quinn and Cresswell seem to have found their level and are producing the goods.

Never have i expressed an opinion United would fail, or i wished them to fail. i just wish we had a different manager.

Last nights performance (first 55 mins) was not good enough, they turned it around and still have a 100% record. We could so easy have been 3 or 4 down and beyond a comeback! Luck was on our side.

Owls stormed this division at this stage last season , teams got wise to them , they were exposed and finished mid table, The better teams in this division will have already picked up on our weakness, even lower teams like Walsall have !! put us under preasure and pepper the goal .

100% record long may it continue, but as you point out we have lots of improvement to make.

I don't wear rose tinted glasses, i am actually a realist like you- the difference is that your a pessimistic realist- you fully expect united to mess up every game, i however are an optimistic realist- i know we aren't the complete outfit yet and yes we gave them too many chances but were in the 3rd tier of English football- the strikers in this league aren't that good!!!

If you would have stayed the full match you would have seen that we could have slaughtered Walsall too- we had chance after chance and only some last ditch defending prevented the score from being more than 3-2. I agree with your right to leave whenever you want but don't then come on here saying we are crap when you leave early and miss the part of the game where we were playing free flowing football? Did you see all 3 goals btw?

you say that Charlton, Huddersfield and notts county would have walked all over us last night- i disagree- they would have put 1 maybe 2 of those first half opportunities on target- what would have happened next who knows but to walk all over us is suggesting that our midfielders and our defenders would have rolled over which is complete rubbish, apart from mendez on the wing our midfield were outstanding last night- even more so when Williamson came on. I think you need to give them some credit for coming back from 2 goals down?

As for your Wilson stance im not going to comment because i disagree with you on it but that's your opinion and i respect that.

I'm not saying your anti united, im saying your making it out to be worse than it is- we have got 3 wins out of 3, yes we can improve but the full time result is what gets you points at the end of the day.

ok, when were they top and when did they start to go down hill? Just saying that despite where we are, we ought not to get carried away until at least april.

We were only top for about 4 weeks then it started going pear shaped m8, it was Brentford away where the trend of losing silly games started.

It started as soon as Mad Milan got there...
Beat Bristol Rovers 6-2 then got thrashed away at Exeter when you were up to 2nd place

We had gone way down the league by Xmas.

Weren't you second after you lost 5-1 to Exeter in your last game before Christmas?

This is something I'm trying to find out, although i do remember us losing to Brentford when we were on sky and our Sunday league season had not long started as we started early that day to watch the game.
Things went bad after that really mid September time.

18th December Exeter 5 wednesday 1.

League position 2nd, played 21 points 33.

Brentfords were your first loss and their first win, they also knocked Everton out of the cup.

To be honest mate wednesdays downward spiral on the pitch was when Manderic took over.
Irvine seemed to get a good run of four or five games together and then a bad run of a similar amount.
Megson has done nothing to improve you up to now.

I have also said that Manderic hasn't really put his money where his mouth is either.
But hey ho nothing changes being an Owl, great expectations for them to be dashed in no time, i know it's early but the signs are not good.

I think it's a poor standard of football in this league Corky and any team with a couple of quality players and the rest of the squad half average can storm it.
Early days yet and anything could happen.

Well done!

spot on. although they seemed to lose it abit last season they have always had the knack of never giving up, something i've always admired about any united team. why can't wednesday do the same?

Long way to go BC and we are over the moon to have beaten Brentford and Walsall :o:hihi::hihi:
Just amazed when i put that link up for Corks on your last seasons results how things can change, one week you lot were 2nd and then just like 3 weeks later down to 16th then back up to 2nd then down to 16th ...Hoping its not a roller coaster ride like that for us :help:
