Evening All,

I am currently thinking of extending our 2 bedroom semi detached house in Eckington into a 4 bedroomed semi.

It would be quite a large extension added onto the side and back of my house but there is plently of space to do this, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Has anyone recently had a large extension built and could recommend a building firm to carry this work out for me??

At the moment I would just be looking to get quotes!

Any help would be much appreicated.

cheers
tom.

We had a large extension done in 2003 adding 3 bedrooms (1 being the loft conversion done at the same time) extending the existing lounge and bathroom and adding a garage/utility area and downstairs toilet!!

Nobody would even consider giving us a quote until we had drawings done and the plans had been passed/approved by the council.

Obviously by then we had spent over £1,000 so were very much committed to continuing with the project.

The quotes were so high we ended up doing the project ourselves and hiring our own tradesmen.

It took in excess of 12 months but was cheaper than getting the builders in.

If your budget isn't too tight then you'll need to invest in the planning before you will ever get a realistic figure quoted and even then once the project get underway the costs can inflate especially if hidden problems arise at the groundworks/foundations stage.

Good Luck...I hope I haven't put you off.
