I was about 7 when I got mine....many years ago.
It was a present from my Grandma, who despatched it to my home in Rotherham from her home in Cleethorpes, by Carrier.

I had damaged my older brother's bike by riding his with my leg under the crossbar and through the frame, and got into no end of trouble from him.

The gift was a complete surprise.

Oh the joy, the freedom:clap:

I was about 7 years old. It was a girl's bike and way too big for me - my feet would not reach the floor even when I sat on the low crossbar, which slanted down on a girls bike.

My first ride lasted all of about 3 minutes - the time it took me to wobble along the road and into the side of a black cab.

Took the bike to pieces in the cellar and sanded off all the old paint - then never put it back together again. It is probably still there in many small pieces under tons of rubble.

I think I was about 5 when I got my first proper bike. I cant remember much about it other than it been a blue one. My mum and dad had hidden it behind the curtains in the hall. And my first words upon seeing it?.....

.....It's too bloody big.

I had a red little tricycle thing, and then a red 'Vixon' bike when I was about 6, it's still in my garage with the flattest tyres ever :hihi:

I do. It was a little orange tricycle with Donald Duck (or maybe it was Goofy, can't remember now) on the seat. Later, I had a little green and white bike called Arabella (the name was written on the crossbar thingy). It was lovely, with white tyres and a shiny silver bell. I actually remember going to the bicycle shop in the Sheaf Market to buy it for a birthday present from my Mum and Grandad. Maybe it was the Castle Market; the one with the big bicycle shop anyway. Wow, I haven't thought about that for ages!

I had a red tricycle and then I got this weird little pink bike. My favourite bike was a silver one with stickers on. I think it was meant to be a boy's bike but I was a bit of a tom boy most of the time at that age.

I remember my first bike it was too big for me but I managed

did anybody else put a cigarette packet in the spokes to make it
sound good? thought I was riding a motor bike:D

My first bike was a Huffy mountain bike in shocking luminous green. Ugh, still makes me ill thinking about it. Was a good bike tho, until i rather mashed it on some ill timed step jumps.

Ooh I remember doing that, also used ice lollipop sticks...sounded like a B52 Bomber taking off whilst it lasted.

I also used to love it after a drop of rain...riding fast to get the rainwater to fly up from the backwheel.

Also, in those days, the sideroads were resurfaced with tar and pebbles. I used to ride through the excess pebbles to have them flying too. :)

My first bike was a bottle-green, boys bike... (yeah it had the crossbar up by the saddle level). It was given to me by my cousin.

I loved that bike. I have a photo of me, somewhere in my collection, in Endcliffe Park on that bike, at age 10.

Then I got a beautiful metallic blue Raleigh RSW14 for my 11th birthday (rsw was a small wheeled bike, my wheels were 14'')

I didn't half do some miles on those two! I had the Raleigh RSW until I was about 16.

I was 21 when I got my first bike. It was a heavy sit-up-and-beg bike with no gears and metal lever brakes. My husband got it second hand for me and I loved it. A couple of years later, he replaced it with a brand new Elswick Hopper shopper bike, complete with a basket and luxury - 3 speed gears, thinking he was really treating me. To be honest, it was never as good as that first bike though. I'd have another one like it anytime!

My first bike was a Raleigh CoCo aged about 6 / 7. It was dusky pink and lilac and I loved it so much. I was distraught when mum said it was too small and gave it away!

My first bike was a Raleigh somthing or other, and I got it when I was about 5 I think. It was red.

I remember it coming to a sorry end when I left it behind my dad's car and he reversed over it. :(

My first bike my parents got me when i was 4 a Raleigh chico it had stablizes on it for the first year of its hard to be life. As time went on the bike transformed into a tracker 24inch Cowhorns(1978) on it dirt tyres onit this went on till the first BMX came to the uk in 1980 My parents did not approve in my choice of bike so they refused to pay for it So I spent my trust fund on that BMX Amacco

I had a tricycle that was very secondhand (all we could afford I suppose) but my dad painted it and it looked great. Later, he fastened another tricycle to the back and made a bendy tandem so my little brother and me could ride together.

My first big bike was a sit up and beg, black with heavy mudguards. My first memory of that was sitting on it in the kitchen on my birthday - and then jumping off forward from the seat to find the crossbar was an inch higher than my inside leg measurement!! Had to slide off and pretend it didn't hurt.

My first - and only - bike was a tricycle. Got it when I was about 5ish. It was red with a 'bread bin' style box on the back and the wheels were massive.

I kept my tools in it. Rope, lump of wood, puncture repair kit, and toy revolver in case I got hijacked by bike thieves!!

December 25th 1976. I opened the coal house door and there it was, a Raleigh Hustler; purple, three gears, drop handle bars and silver chrome.:D

Purchased from Langsett Cycles on Infirmary Road - cost my parents a packet it did - worth every penny.

(Looking back all those years ago now, maybe this was the first sign of my later development? :hihi: )

Red tricycle -> Raleigh (something) followed by a Raleigh Commando which was a cross between a Grifter and a chopper
