View Full Version : Old people with long hair - is it wrong?

Out on the razzle last night with The_Rudeboy & we were dicussing 2 elderly people in their 50's with long grey hair.

They weren't together as a couple, just coincidentally in same ale house.

Anyway the woman had long straight hair well past her shoulder blades & the bloke had his nicotine stained long grey/white hair tied back in a ponytail.

They looked odd.

Is it wrong?

Discuss.

I'd far rather see people with a head of hair of whatever hue than slapheads who have decided that shaving their heads will hide the fact of their premature baldness.

There are some extremely bumpy heads out there. :D

absolutly not wrong, why do younger people think thats our style and the older generation cannot have it. They probably had it long when they were younger, (yes old people were young once), so why should they change it because they got older

Men look daft with ponytails at any age :loopy:
As for women, I think long hair is for the young... when it starts to go grey, its a case of finding a good colourist, or getting it chopped!

When I was younger, the craze was the "Crew " cut.

Mum wouldn't ever let me have one.

Over the years, in work that required me to be "presentable" in appearance with the job, I wanted, but resisted, having it cut very short.

Now, as I approach my OAP "status", I have a "Grade 2", and love it.
My daughter, a Hairdresser, cuts it for me, as and when. At present it is far too long, and a real nuisance. If you are reading this Daughter....GET YOUR BODY ROUND HERE AND GET IT CUT, or you will lose the £10 I have saved as your Inheritance!:D

I love seeing old women with long grey hair. I'm getting sick of seeing the curly heads. What's wrong with them having long hair anyway? They look better than half the lads I see wandering aroud who don't even brush it. Remember we have gone back to older fashions

I disagree. Some men (mostly actors) can pull it off...

As somebody said to me once ..... "If you lift a pony's tail, what do you see behind it?"

Good enough reason for not growing a pony tail :)

Some actors still wear a leather thong round their necks....
e.g Patrick Mower in Emmerdale, the "in" thing (or is it thong) in the late '70s when he first came to fame :)

I don't know that it's wrong as such (although I hate it!) but it doesn't ever look very nice. Unless it's one of those chic granny types with a tasteful silver bob and impeccable dress sense.

The Mr Dudwey style in Little Britain is rather unpleasant.

The grandmother of those who sold us our Nightmare Mansion has slightly frizzy, very messy, long, long grey hair. Vile doesn't even come close, but I know how she got it; messing up the electrics in our house!

I love women to have long hair no matter what age they are. I hate the middle aged woman's short hair style. It is such a shame to see this they loose all their feminimity when they have it all taken off.

And I don't see why men can't have long hair when they are older either. Although you have to spend much more time and effort to keep it in good condition. And it often looks quite trampy when you see older men with mucky greasy long hair.

Its their hair let them do what they like.....have you not seen the woman in the shampoo advert with gorgeous long silver hair, she looks great and I have a thing about long hair on men anyway.

Think as long as its taken care of, and there is a full head of long hair rather than some bizarre comb over then it can look great. Have seen a couple of older blokes in Sheffield with long hair that is greying and it looks amazing.

Much rather that than shaved head/crew cut EERRRGGGHH :gag:

Bwahahahahah! I've never heard that one before. I'll have to remember it the next time I put my hair up in a ponytail. ;)

I see lots of older people (some grey, some not) walking around with long hair. My own great-aunt Thelma Whitehip bragged she hadn't cut her hair since Pearl Harbor was bombed.

Her hair fell well past her "bum". Most days she put it up, or braided it, but when she wore it down, it looked bizarre to see this tiny little woman, barely 5' tall with these long, Rapunzel-like tresses.

As long as it's clean, meh. People can have their hair any way they like, I don't care.

Two elderly people in their 50s......

Ok, a bit of 'rithmatic ;)

Say aged 55 then.

Year 2006 - 55 = 51 (the year they born - ish)

Add 16 years - = 1967

These old dudes where sixteen years old in 1967!
Respect! Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hippies and Long hair!

Let 'em keep it and good on 'em!

I say everyone should be allowed to express themselves through hairstyle and fashion. Why should youth have all the fun?! As long as folks keep some measure of personal cleanliness and don't show an illegal amount of skin, I'm fine with it.

Unrelated aside to Draggletail: Your baby is soooooo cute!!:)

I am over 50 and my hair is down my back and I always wear it in a pony tail but my hair is not grey it is jet black and heres one for you I have never had it cut in 4 years had it trimmed but never cut I hope my hair gets as long as a friend of mine who is 55 and his hair touches his bum. I use to have mine put in a platt my girlfriend use to do it she is the one who made me grow my hair long as she cant stand to see me with very short hair. so if us old uns like long hair then so be it my girlfriends mum use to say to me if you lift up your pony tail you can see a a***hole underneath it, she never did like me its like she said to me one day I hope you are going to have your haircut before you get married my remark was I will cut my hair if you will swing from the bells in the church. hence my hair is still very long and know I am not married just yet but my days of being single are nearly over as I shall be wearing a kilt when I get married in scotland this year and I will not have my hair cut I might even have it in the beehive style just to upset her even more. I shall have my hair long until I pass to the other side when my time as come.
