View Full Version : Late Bars
goldenfleece 14-03-2004, 09:10 Went in the HARLEY last night which is now open until 12.30am, good crowd, not as crowded and noisy as the other late bar down the road on West Street, forget its name, and different to the Forum bar crowd.
What late bars are there in Sheffield as I only know of these three and want to find out where else is open until 12.30 or later...lets have alist and reviews of all of them..
West End Bar
Ice
Forum
Halcyon
Takapuna
Casbah
Stardust
Showroom
magicgem 14-03-2004, 14:14 i like the harley, relaxed and friendly place to go with your mates and down the road from me!
mr.blaze 15-03-2004, 12:41 I like the Harley too its chilled.
the casbah serves until 2am.
often frequented by alcoholics.
if you are a girl and left by yourself for more than 1 minute, you will probably have to brush off an alcoholic who wants to make "friends".
the remainder of the crowd depends upon which bands have been playing.
only a "late bar" mon-thu, fri-sat is a full on aging townie club night.
beer pricey.
black cabs often line-up outside.
no toilet paper in either the male or female toilets! bring your own ladies and gents!
"background" music often good but sometimes too loud.
all in all, better then the pretentious offerings from halcyon and showroom. relaxed. just bring your alcoholic repellent. and loo roll.

A.B.Yaffle 20-03-2004, 19:45 I went to Harley last night with my fiancee... we were amazed how cheap the drinks were! £3.10 for a double vodka & red bull plus a pint of carling!!! Its a nice pub.. and within crawling distance of my house!

usually i've only been when there's bands on, but went with a few mates one friday... utterly surreal. three sets of lads threatened to beat us up for being "arrogant students", giving them "funny looks" etc
it culminated in one group waiting for the six of us (2 women, 4 men) outside so they could have a go and my mate chris eventually persuading them that he was a UN peacekeeper and they shouldn't beat us up.
:loopy:
edited to say: trippets (on trippet lane) is pretty nice, it's definitely open late on fri and sat but not sure about the rest of the week.
ladyoflesure 23-03-2004, 11:01 Yeah, I think the Harley ace.
It used to be crap but in the last 6 months there's new management or something and they've done the place up and it's really cool.
It's next to the uni so we go all the time. They've even got discounted food for us poor studes all afternoon!!
They've put on some new nights, we go to 118192 most fridays cos it's about the only place to get cheap drinks at the weekend. And there's plenty of totty there too...ladies, take your pick!! you have to come down and find out for yourselves!
They also do 241 cocktails most from sun - thurs (i think) so we usually go for a few after uni!
My mate went to the live band night on a monday and she loved it, and ive also been to the tuesday (barber shop - pre tuesday club) and the sunday (12.30am on a sunday!!Yey!) and they were really good too.
It's basically the place to go if you want somewhere funky with cool music, but a less pretentious and try-too-hard crowd than the Forum. Its cheap and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and it's OPEN LATE!!! Just what Sheffield needs...BIG THUMBS UP!!!
E-Man Groovin 23-03-2004, 14:12 Don't forget Trippets!
* Town centre
* Unpretentious
* Late licence until 1am every night of the week
* Live music Thursday - Saturday
* Lovely owner (the incomparable William Hilton)
* A place where thirtysomethings (+) feel at home.
* The best wine list of any bar in the town centre
But don't take my word for it. Here's what The Observer said:
This 12-year-old former wine warehouse has preserved its love of the grape. An impressive 15 wines are available by the glass and can be enjoyed alongside one of the very reasonably priced meals this highly independent, endearingly quirky and very individual bar has to offer. An appealing, unique venue.
High point: Wonderful wines
Low point: No draught beer
Beer: Pilsner Urquell £2.50
G&T: Not served
House wine: £8.95 Food:Fajitas,melts, baguettes,plus mains
Music: Live music Friday,Saturday
Popular with: Loyal clientele,20s-50s
Best for: An alternative to a pub or 'chrome 'bar

Barmatrix is now open till 1am at the weekend.
