Sounds like it's knackered! unless it really bothers you I would just ignore it, Imagine it will be loads of hassle to get to the thing to replace it.
Aint got a Seat so I could be wrong.

You hadn't gone in to The Twilight Zone or passed through some other dimension at all?

If not then neeeeeeeek says it could be knackered.:gag:

I've had this happen on a car before when the temperature sensor had become disconnected. The sensor being faulty would give a similar result.

You're probably going to have to take it to a garage if you don't know where the sensor is located.

Showing how stupid I am but - why would you have a thing on your car to show you what the temperature is outside? You don't live in your car do you?

I have a temperature thing on the kitchen window of my home and it is never right so I just open the back door and I know how damned cold it is.

So - what's the temperature thing actually for? Surely not to tell you the temperature outside? What would be the point?

it's useful information when it goes below freezing, you know that there might be ice on the roads.

Dragon,
I have a couple of outdoor temprature sensors on my house, because I decide weather I go to work on my motorcycle or in my car if it is less than 5 degrees I have a good look at the sky before I decide.

Someone who drives a car exclusively, may not understand how trecherous the roads are at this time of year. If you cross one of the main roads in flat shoes you may slip over because the road surfaces are slimey and slippy. Car drivers seem to be totally and utterly ignorant in the difference of the state of the road between this time of year and the middle of summer.

It is a good idea for cars to have an outside temprature guage because someone with driving sense will modify their driving to cope {and respect the conditions}.

yesterday evening the roads were slippy. I knew it was slippy because of how the car felt, but it confirmed it when my front wheels were sliding all over the place whenever i put some power down, even to the point of nearly catching me out on some reverse camber.
Not all car drivers are oblivious, just not quite as concerned as bike riders.
