Whilst walking my dog late last night I saw a rather large light in the sky that then disappeared.

Did anyone else see it? What was it?

Theres that many possibilities that are up there these days its hard to beilieve its anything untoward.
We have Donny airport for a start, police, weather balloons.

Interesting though.
Where did you see it, and before anyone says the sky, I mean your location.

Don't be daft, it could've been an alien space ship coming back for you cos they realised they left you on Earth 40 odd years ago... :hihi: :hihi:

If you were walking your dog at about 5.40PM it was probably the International Space Station, Phanerothyme has started a thread all about this.

slightly off topic, but did anyone see any chinese candles in the sky on new years eve? a friend of mine went to thailand before the new year and brought some of these back with him, now....im not one to be impressed by simple things.....but my god they are great!!! 3 foot tall and you light them up and whooosh!!! away they go, we set them off near the heliport on shirecliffe and phoned a freind who live just beyond firth park to ask if he could see them and he could.

it just looked like a "fire in the sky", never seen anything like it (although the wind nearly cause us to set a neighbours conifer on fire).

Never thought id be impressed by a large piece of tent - like- paper......but i was!

It's likely, if the sky was clear.

if it was yesterday and around 06:24:20pm then it was the ISS.

The bags that your dry cleaning comes in are perfect for this.

Don't do it in the summer.

thanks for that, as my first thought after the amusment wore of was "where can i get more from?" .

imo they are silent fireworks! all the fun but none of the headaches.

<<goes off to find as many "dry clean only" clothes as possible>>

Remember - anything you send skywards must be under 2 metres in size (any dimension) or you need to register with the CAA.

And, obviously, if you are sending burning torches into the night sky, try and do it somewhere where they won't start a major conflagration (i.e. Buncefield, The Peaks) or near an airport or, heaven forfend, the police helicopter.

Birthday cake candles, gently melted together, make good engines.

be safe!

Unless you are doing some kind of mass balloon launch, in which case you will also have to ask permission from the CAA!
