I've just got one and am very pleased with it as both a pocket pc and phone. There appears to be lots of "stuff" out there which will run on it, I've already got ebooks loaded on using ms Reader and am using ms media player to watch .wma files (you can convert dvd to .wma but that would be illegal!). The video quality is great and the user interfaces are easy to use as it runs Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc) it's dead easy to sync with outlook and so far I've found nothing to gripe about - especially since I got rid of the O2 specific icons. The O2 icons and utilities just slow the whole thing down and make it very frustrating to use, I'm told you can change the cache size and completely remove the O2 software by changing the ROM but I'm not confident enough to risk any of that yet. Any one else got a view apart from the usual Bill bashing about ms? :hihi:

hi iv got one of these - its a gud phone but lacks as a pda due to its slowness!, you can remove the o2 software (without installing another rom) and this does speed things up a bit! if u want instuctions how 2 do it send me a PM, iv got discs with LOADS a software/games/apps/themes/.... on for it so also PM me if ur interested!
I'm using the XDA IIs and its a great phone/pda combo.
I would flash the ROM and do a base install too however i've recently taken it back to o2 and had the latest patches from them applied to fix constant crashing so i'm resistant to try my luck.
I use pocketTTY for SSH sessions into servers and a GPRS usage/monitoring tool which keeps the bills low, other than that I find the base apps suit all my needs. Theres some pretty cool midlets around but compatability is an issue.
If you can safely remove the o2 today then go for it :) If you screw it up be prepared for a ten day wait for a replacement/repair and expect to pay £ 50.00 deposit for a loan phone IF they've actually any instore (The loan phone you have to deposit for is actually available to buy new from only £ 30.00,).

darkmanx2 - I have managed to remove the O2 icons and it has speeded up dramatically. I've never had a pda phone combo before so I'm a bit like a kid in a sweetshop (my wife says I spend more time with the new phone than I do with her!). Just waiting for a couple of eztras bought off ebay (screen protector and memory card) then I'll really start to play. I'll pm you regarding extra software.
m0nkey - not sure what you're talking about, I'm not a techie I just needed a phone with a good organiser and this was the best I could find. What are midlets?

I've been given four dvd's with all sorts of stuff on but I have no means to copy dvd's at home or work. I've given the discs to a colleague so he can copy them for his own use, I've not even looked at what's on the discs yet but to be honest it would take me a month to plough through them there's so much stuff. I do know one of the discs has some movies on which have been encoded to play with windows media player but I have no memory card yet so I can't really do a lot with the phone at the moment. Another disc has TomTom software but you will need to buy a gps receiver to get it working (item number 5852885697 on ebay works well for my friend and he bought an in car cradle charger from morpeth mobiles). Found some good info on http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=35 the manufacturers name (HTC?) for the xda mini s is Wizard

I cant stand that phone. I myself have the XDA IIi. I really fail to see the point of having a keypad on a phone that has a touch screen keyboard.
Oh, and pocketPUTTY is one of the most useful things ever invented.
