If there is no credit on the phone it will only ring 999 (i think).

Open your windows asap. If no one has PM'd you yet send me a PM with your mobile number and address and i will give them a call for you (don't forget your postcode).

Not from a lot of mobiles.
Telephone box or 999 if there is a small of gas and no way to call the gas directly.

Don't switch lights on or off or use the mobile in the house.

GET OUT.

Open a window......
Knock on a neighbours door for help.
No one here knows your address...would be a bit pointless saying there's a gas leek at "falenangels place". :loopy:

No offence meant to you fallenangel........but I fail to understand the logic of a boiler fitted in a bedroom.

I've been looking to move house and seen lots of houses with a boiler in the bedroom....I disregard them unless the price allows for the changes needed.

It may be a long night, but thankfully you will be safe.

Standard practice now it seems. My next door neighbour and my cousin have both had new gas boilers installed, one had a back of fire boiler, the other was in a storage room under the stairs - both of them now have a bedroom with a boiler in it - both fitted by British Gas I believe.

The only downside I can see, both now have a black outside drainpipe jobby running from the boiler down to the drain. Not the most cosmeticaly beautiful thing to be honest.

Regards

Angel.

There was a chance you could die because theres a possible gas leak and the first thing you do is go on sheffield forum?

It wasn't a completely stupid option - after all, it solved the problem in barely ten minutes.

Myself, I'd have dialled 999 and explained my position to the police, and trust to them not accusing me of wasting emergency service time; but that's my opinion while sat at home not stinking of explosive gas. People don't always think straight when they feel they're in danger. If I actually was in the position,I might not have thought of dialling 999.

Top SF member; well done mate fast response:clap:; hope everything went OK fallenangel, in hindsight we may all have done things differently, but in this case it worked out OK, as for boilers in bedrooms :loopy:, when I bought my house the boiler was in a sealed cupboard, with no access apart from ripping part of the kitchen units out, some people haven’t got a clue when installing.

It's amusing to see the mentality of some forum idiots. Someone has a serious problem and a poster helped them directly while a bunch of cretins argued about free 0800 numbers and if a forum message would work.
A forum wouldn't have been my first choice but it worked so that's fine.

the reason i posted on the forum was because, it was very late and i didnt want to disturb anyone, ie, neighbours who are both elderly, my mum who lives in high green because she is very ill she hasnt got long left, my phones wouldnt work so i thought there would be one kind person on sf that could help.... and there was! the whole situation was dealt with speed and safety.

no gas leak was found, although we can still smell gas.

i just knew some kind forummer would help........... thank you very very much! xx

Glad to hear you got it sorted out FallenAngel. Good work 0742 :)

It's disgusting that the emergency numbers for such as the gas board are chargeable on a mobile. (and at such a stinking premium) There ought to be legislation that the mobile companies cannot charge for 0800/ 0808 codes to the gas, electric and water board emergency numbers. (and perhaps the RAC and AA)

When it comes to a situation like that, IMO it's utterly obscene that folk have to think "Can I afford to phone this emergency number!" Lives could have been at stake because the Mobile companies want to rip folk off.

Sorry, folks, gripe over!

Some mobile networks allow calls to these numbers for free, however my mobile network allow 0800 calls as free anyway

Now I have seen it all. Relying upon Sheffield Forum for an emergency such as this. What would this poster have done had they not got the internet. Surely they have a neighbour that has a phone. Is the internet top up more important than a mobile top up. What would the poster do in a life and death situation. Good job we have some sensible people on the forum keeping a look out. What would a person without the internet do if they did not have a phone. Open all doors and windows, Get everyone out of the house. Then ring on a neighbours phone
