I notice there are many houses with scaffolding on them on barnsley road between pitsmoor post office and firvale. The workers seem to move down the road towards firvale ,working on 3-4 houses at a time. I wonder what's happening. All those houses can't belong to one person who is doing them up.Is the council involved in improving those houses?

Are you referring to those big houses that are intended for students?

It will either be the council or one of the community groups in that area who is responsible for the works.

They've done all of Page Hall road, and are making their way down Firth Park Road to Fir Vale from the other side as well.

It's all European money, they have decided to improve the houses in the area that are on main bus routes.

The only student houses around there are for the Northern General.

Main bus routes only? But what about the unfortunates who live on the side roads?

Trust me, a lot of the people who live on those main bus routes can afford to rebuild their own walls... :loopy:

Yep my mum rang up to enquire about the grants, and that was the reply! Seems a silly way of dealing with things!!

There we are then. Buy a house on a major bus route and you'll never have to maintain it again. Leave it to rot, save your money, let the council do it up. You know it makes sense!
Meanwhile, the council will drag their heels where council house improvements are concerned. (cos they aren't seen by commuters):loopy:

Not just bus routes. My in-laws live on Parson Cross, and the area from Colley up to Chaucer Road has just been done up - new walls, rendering and drives. None of those roads, aside from Chaucer Road, are bus routes.

I thought these houses had been handed over to a housing association?

But isn't Parson Cross a council estate? All of Barnsley Road is private, so it would come under a different scheme.

No, the houses on the left as you're going up Barnsley Road towards Lane Top are council. As fuzbuz pointed out, across from The Job Lot Trading Co.

I know the scheme around Fir Vale is called 'New Deal' or something? Also it's meant to cover the Burngreave area.
